Professional Background
Dr. Pamela (Wong) Wiltfang is the Director of Clinical Services & Innovative Practice for NuCara Pharmacies. This position requires travel to all 30+ NuCara sites located in 5 states– (Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, Texas) to implement, manage, and maintain clinical services & innovative practices. She has relationships with key stakeholders, key opinion leaders, and payers in these states and is knowledgeable on payer coverage in these territories along the primary care, long-term care, and specialty setting. She is charged with staying up to date with the latest clinical information in all areas to share with internal and external teams.
At NuCara, Dr. Wiltfang’s expertise includes: Ambulatory Care, Long Term Care, Medication Therapy Management, PBM Management, Retail, Compounding (Sterile, Non-Sterile, Hazardous, Non-Hazardous), Telepharmacy, Veterinary, Specialty (HIV/AIDS), and Consulting.
One program implementation to note is the Wellmark Value-Based Pharmacy Program (VBPP). Dr. Wiltfang was the coordinator for this program and her responsibility included demonstrating the market value of high-performing pharmacies to one of the largest payers in Iowa. With Dr. Wiltfang’s implementation of the program, NuCara pharmacies saved $2,500,000 ANNUALLY in total health care costs due to their efforts in providing the highest quality care.
Dr. Wiltfang is the coordinator for many innovative programs in the pharmacy including, but not limited to telepharmacy practice, tech check tech (new pharmacy practice model), ACO collaborations, antipsychotic injection trainings, POCT trainings, sterile and non-sterile compounding in the community setting, home infusion collaborations, transitions of care, hospice programs, pain management payer programs, and anticoagulation programs.
Dr. Wiltfang also serves as the Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. In this role, she has developed a brand new course curriculum and serves as the primary instructor of extemporaneous pharmaceutical preparations and compounding skills in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum.
In addition to this adjunct position, Dr. Wiltfang serves as the Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the Pharmacy Program at Kirkwood College. In this role, she developed and teaches a new Certified Pharmacy Technician Curriculum (1 year program). This course includes Pharmacology 1, Pharmacology 2, Pharmacy Operations & Regulations, and Pharmacy Calculations & Compounding. The pharmacology topics in this course include: Immunology, Integumentary, Musculoskeletal, Nervous, Sensory, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Endocrine, Reproductive, Renal, Immunology, Pain Management, Nutrition, Fluids, Electrolytes, Oncology, Pharmaceutical Development, and Medication Safety.
