The cost of Mounjaro depends on your insurance coverage, the dosage prescribed to you, your choice of pharmacy, and other factors. Without insurance, the cost of Mounjaro can be quite high, ranging from $1,052-$1,159 for a 30-day supply. But a $25 coupon or a 12-month coupon can help bring down the cost for those who qualify. The insurance cost may vary depending on your plan, but a copay or discount card may also be available. Using Mounjaro coupons and getting your prescription by mail order are two of the many ways you can cut costs.

How Much Does Mounjaro Cost With Health Insurance?

The cost of Mounjaro insurance coverage can vary, especially considering that weight loss is an off-label use of Mounjaro. Contact your insurance provider to inquire about the specifics of your plan.

Commercial Insurance

Commercial insurance may cover some or all of the cost of a Mounjaro prescription. Coverage may vary depending on the rules and requirements of each plan and the prescription drug benefits. Ask whether pre-approval is necessary and whether the coverage includes weight loss as an off-label use.

Medicare

Most Medicare plans are likely to cover Mounjaro prescriptions.2 Contact your Medicare representative or insurance provider to learn about any pre-approval requirements and the extent of coverage. Note that Mounjaro is FDA-approved for treating diabetes. Be sure to ask your Medicare representative if using Mounjaro for weight loss is covered.

Medicaid

Check with your state’s Medicaid plan to determine if Mounjaro is covered. Ask whether a pre-approval process is needed and whether the coverage extends to weight management.

TRICARE

TRICARE may cover part of your Mounjaro cost, but coverage can vary based on individual plans.3 Contact your TRICARE plan to inquire about potential coverage, and consider contacting the Veterans Affairs (VA) for assistance.

Mounjaro Coupons & Savings Cards

A Mounjaro coupon or savings card can help you save money on your prescription. These work similarly to traditional coupons and can be obtained through various sources. Some manufacturers may offer a Mounjaro savings card, including a Mounjaro $25 coupon on the manufacturer’s website. You can use these coupons at local or online pharmacies.

Can I Use Mounjaro Coupons Without Insurance?

It’s possible that some Mounjaro coupons can be used without insurance. This may depend on where you get the coupon and the specific requirements for using it. Ask your pharmacist or provider about Mounjaro coupons and how to use them, including whether they can be used with insurance.

How to Get Mounjaro for $25

To get Mounjaro for $25, go to the Mounjaro website. There, you can read the requirements and determine if you are eligible for the $25 savings card. Those who have insurance coverage may be eligible to pay as little as $25 for a 3-month supply of Mounjaro. It’s important to note that the actual savings can vary based on individual circumstances, insurance plans, and eligibility criteria.4

Mounjaro Cost Savings Programs

SimpleFill and NeedyMeds are some of the cost savings programs available for Mounjaro prescriptions. Some organizations provide information about savings programs for various medications. Others assist with the application and enrollment process. To qualify for these savings programs, individuals must apply to and meet certain criteria from each program.

SimpleFill

Simple Fill is a service that helps people find, get qualified, and stay enrolled in assistance programs for prescription medications like Mounjaro. Patients who are underinsured or not insured can apply for the program on their website. At this time, Mounjaro savings programs are not available on Simple Fill, but patients are encouraged to keep checking as program information is frequently updated.5

NeedyMeds

NeedyMeds is a nonprofit organization providing information about savings for prescription medications. The search tool on their website allows people to search for information about specific medications. Currently, several Mounjaro coupons and discounts are available at NeedyMeds.6

Other Ways to Save Money on Your Mounjaro Prescription

There are several other options for saving money on your Mounjaro prescription, whether or not you have insurance. Speak with your pharmacist and prescriber about additional discounts you may be eligible for.

Pharmacy Discounts & Mounjaro Savings Cards

Local pharmacies may have Mounjaro savings cards available for you. Contact your pharmacy directly to learn about these savings options.

Online Resources and Apps

Online websites and apps can help reduce what you pay out-of-pocket for Mounjaro. These platforms provide Mounjaro coupons and discounts and can also help you understand which pharmacy offers the lowest Mounjaro price. Examples of these online platforms include GoodRx, Optum Perks, and WellRx.

HSA Accounts

A health savings account (HSA) is a benefit of high-deductible health insurance plans. An HSA allows you to set aside money from your paycheck before it is taxed to cover certain health expenses. The money you contribute to this account is not subject to federal taxes, leaving the full amount available for use. If you have a high-deductible insurance plan, contact your insurance company to understand how this may work with your Mounjaro prescription.7

Ask Your Prescriber for Samples

Your prescriber may be able to offer you Mounjaro medication samples to provide you with short-term supply of the medication. Requesting a sample helps you try out the medication for a short time before filling a prescription.

Ask About Getting a 90-day Supply

If your provider finds that Mounjaro is a good fit for you, a 90-day supply can be less costly than monthly refills. This approach also reduces the number of refills needed per year. Mail-order pharmacies typically offer 90-day supplies, which reduces the costs of shipping packaging materials for the pharmacy and patient.

Fill Your Prescription by Mail-order

Getting your Mounjaro prescription filled by a mail-order pharmacy is another option for getting your medication at a lower overall cost. Your provider will call in the prescription, then it may take up to two weeks for your medication to be delivered. Mail-order prescriptions work well for medications with no temperature sensitivities and those used for treating chronic conditions.8

How to Get a Mounjaro Prescription

To get a prescription for Mounjaro, you will first need an evaluation of your weight management needs. Start by consulting with your primary provider, who could be a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. They may refer you to an obesity specialist for an evaluation, if they deem it appropriate. A provider will consider your medical history, medications, activity level, and other factors before determining if a Mounjaro prescription may be suitable.

To get prescribed Mounjaro online, you will also start by getting evaluated by an online provider. It is important to find an online platform that will do a virtual consultation and can prescribe weight loss medication. Not all online providers offer this type of care and prescription options.

Because finding a provider to prescribe Mounjaro online can be challenging, we have thoroughly reviewed platforms such as Circle Medical and PlushCare. These are two online providers that do prescribe weight loss medications such as Mounjaro. Due to potential shortages of weight loss medications, Mounjaro may not always be available. Your provider may choose an alternative if Mounjaro is not available or suitable for you.

Mounjaro Alternatives

Some individuals may need to consider Mounjaro alternatives for weight management. Zepbound is another medication containing the active ingredient tirzepatide and is available as an injection. While originally approved for diabetes, Zepbound was recently approved as a weight loss medication.

Xenical (orlistat), and Contrave (naltrexone-bupropion) are two FDA-approved oral medications for weight loss medications.

GLP-1 agonists Saxenda (liraglutide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are FDA-approved medications for weight management. Saxenda is a daily injection, while Wegovy is a weekly injection. Providers may prescribe Rybelsus off-label for weight loss since it contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Wegovy.9

Everyone responds in a unique way to medication, and your age, health history, and previous experience with side effects can have an impact. Your doctor will help to decide which medication may work best for you.

  • Using a mail-order prescription service
  • Medication samples
  • Patient assistance programs
