Professional Background

Christina Canuto is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate who works at Lotus Counseling Group in Charlotte, NC. She has formal training to work from a systemic lens, providing relational therapy to individuals, couples, and families. She is passionate about providing safe spaces for marginalized populations, such as BIPOC, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+ clientele. In addition to working with these populations, Christina has received formal training to work with individuals struggling with disordered eating and complex traumas. She has worked with individuals diagnosed with mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and borderline personality disorder.

In practice, she utilizes a person-centered, trauma-informed, and multicultural lens to help clients find relational healing for themselves and their communities. She often talks to clients about how to care for themselves in the face of systemic oppressions. Christina utilizes an eclectic approach tailored to the unique needs of the clients she serves, often interweaving principles of mindfulness, family systems, emotion-focused, compassion-focused, and psychodynamic therapies.

Christina’s extensive training in providing therapy to couples and families has allowed her to work with high-conflict families, family systems with addiction, intercultural couples and families, and folx from non-monogamous relationships. As a niche specialization, she enjoys working with Asian-American clients from varying backgrounds on generational healing and bi-cultural identity integration.

Anxiety can cause dizziness. When you experience anxiety, your body activates the "fight or flight" response, leading to an increased heart rate and changes in breathing. These physiological changes can affect blood flow, potentially causing dizziness. This is a common manifestation of anxiety, and addressing the underlying stressors or seeking professional help can often alleviate such symptoms.
