Relationship Hero is an online platform that provides individual and couples coaching services, and they earned 4 out 5 stars from our independent review. They currently do not accept insurance and the cost of Relationship Hero will depend on your preferred coach, with prices ranging between $80-$250 per session.
Rating of Relationship Hero
I have dedicated a considerable amount of time reviewing and researching online couples therapy companies. Not only do I compare each tool and feature of every platform, but my partner and I actually attend therapy sessions to ensure quality support. During our independent review of Relationship Hero, we found fantastic coaches with impressive backgrounds, earning their company 5 stars in our Online Marriage & Couples Counseling Scoring Features. Unfortunately, the cost of coaching isn’t initially clear, leading to a deduction of points in our Cost category.
Pros & Cons of Relationship Hero
Relationship Hero instantly matches you with a certified coach at the end of the registration process. You can also browse their directory to find a coach with a background and price point that works for you. In addition to coaching, Relationship Hero offers Master Class workshops and a journaling tool. However, they currently do not accept insurance and the coaches are not licensed therapists.
Relationship Hero Key Takeaways
- You’ll initially be paired with a coach after you answer the registration questionnaire. However, you don’t need to work with your assigned coach if you feel it’s not a good match.
- Each coach charges a different price and offers various subscription packages. It’s worth it to read and review the coaches’ profiles and pricing to find one that meets your needs and your budget.
- You don’t necessarily have to purchase a package or subscription; you can purchase one session or just a consultation if you’d like.
- Relationship Hero also has an app, but it’s only used for connecting with your coach via Zoom or chat, paying for sessions, or updating your profile. You must sign into the online platform to access the Master Classes and the journaling tool.
- During my enrollment, I received a message from a coordinator stating that we would begin with three sessions – one for me, one for my partner, and one with us together. However, we were able to find a coach that would see us both together at the first appointment.
Final Verdict on Relationship Hero
Relationship Hero is a wonderful resource for individuals navigating the dating waters or couples looking to improve their relationship. The service is easy to use and there are so many coaches available with a wide variety of professional backgrounds. My partner and I had an excellent experience with our coach and I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to her again if we face challenges in the future. While it may not be the best option for those suffering from severe mental health conditions or trauma, I highly recommend Relationship Hero for those who want immediate support, concrete solutions, and an action plan for managing relationships.

What Is Relationship Hero?
Relationship Hero offers individual and couples coaching services online. They host over one hundred mental health professionals that are trained and certified in relationship coaching. The cost of Relationship Hero will depend on the coach you choose, with prices ranging from $80-$250 per session. Subscription packages are also available with some coaches. Insurance is currently not accepted.
In the onboarding process, you’ll be asked to answer some questions about yourself, your partner (if applicable), and the state of your relationship or dating history. For instance, they’ll ask about your sexual orientation, if your partner has agreed to couples coaching, and what type of advice you’re seeking (e.g. dating advice, getting back together, coping with a breakup, cheating, or breaking unhealthy patterns). You can also choose a coach’s specialty, such as LGBTQ+, sex issues, or addiction.
Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, you’ll immediately be matched with a coach in a chatroom. The chatroom will have the coach’s bio and photo to the left of the screen so you can read about their background while you’re chatting. Your coach may ask you to share a bit more about your situation and why you’re seeking help. This brief chat can help you assess if this is the right coach for you.
If you both agree to a coaching session, your recommended coach will send you their pricing information and availability. Each coach creates their own pricing guidelines, as well as refund and cancelation policies. If you agree to the cost, you’ll be taken to a screen where you can schedule your first session. If you don’t think it’s a good match or the price isn’t what you had in mind, you can go to the Coaches tab and choose a new one.
Relationship Hero’s coaches offer 15-minute consultations, individual sessions, couples sessions, and subscription packages, but not every coach offers all of these options. For instance, the coach we were initially paired with didn’t offer individual sessions but a 4-session subscription package. Our new coach offered individual sessions but no consultations.
Once you’ve chosen a coach and scheduled a session, you’ll need to download Zoom. Your coach will email you a Zoom link with the time and date of your appointment. You can also come back to your chatroom to send messages to your coach in-between sessions. There are also Master Class workshops available to subscribers and a journaling tool for all users to track their thoughts and feelings in-between sessions. You can choose to share or not share your journal entries with your coach.
How Much Does Relationship Hero Cost?
Relationship Hero’s cost will depend on the coach you choose, with prices ranging between $80-$250 per session. More experienced coaches will charge more than newer coaches. For instance, the recommended coach we were paired with at registration charged $1,000 for a subscription package of four sessions, which was out of our price range. The coach we ended up choosing cost $120 per session. Because this process was a bit inconvenient, Relationship Hero only earned 3.5 stars in the Cost category of our independent review.
Does Relationship Hero Accept Insurance?
Relationship Hero does not currently accept insurance for therapy or coaching services.
Out-of-Network Benefits
Relationship Hero will create an itemized bill, or superbill, for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider.

What Is Coaching Like With Relationship Hero?
I was both excited and somewhat skeptical of Relationship Hero before I tried it. I was curious to experience the coaching format, but when I learned that the coaches weren’t licensed therapists, I didn’t really know what to expect when it came to the quality of care. Thankfully, after our session was over, my skepticism subsided, and I was convinced that our coach was highly knowledgeable and a strong resource for relationship support.
Our coaching journey began with a questionnaire about our relationship status, sexual orientation, reasons why we’re seeking help, and what kind of coach we’re looking for. My partner and I had agreed to do the coaching together, but I managed the registration process for both of us. You have the option to invite your partner to create their own account so they can also communicate with the coach, but my partner chose to just show up to the scheduled Zoom session, which was perfectly okay with our coach.
After I completed the questionnaire, I was immediately taken into a chat room with the coach Relationship Hero chose for us. She was incredibly kind, had an impressive professional background, and seemed to instantly understand our situation. When she invited me to schedule an appointment, I was able to see her pricing, and my heart sank. While I strongly believe she was a great fit for us, her subscription package was $1,000 for four one-hour sessions, which was out of our price range.
At first, I didn’t really know what to do. I felt somewhat bad that I had this intimate chat with a coach I couldn’t afford. I explained that we weren’t looking for subscription packages and that we wanted to begin by paying for a single session to see if the coaching was right for us. She stated that she completely understood, and she invited us to check out the bios and price points of her colleagues and included a “Browse Coaches” link in the chatroom.
It took some time (about 30 min), but after shopping around for a bit, I was able to find a coach that was in our price range and had availability that fit into our schedules. I also had the option to share the chat history of my previous coach so she could see why we were seeking support without having to repeat every detail. We were able to schedule our coaching session within 48 hours of registration.
My partner and I both felt our Zoom session with our coach was fantastic. She was easy to talk to, insightful, and seemed to truly understand the dynamics of our relationship after a few minutes. She was an excellent active listener who gradually guided us into sensitive topics without being too forceful. She offered an action plan at the end, which was realistic and achievable for us and our lifestyle. It’s also important to note that the quality of the Zoom call was perfect; she was on time, dressed professionally, in a clean environment, and it was easy to hear and see her.
When we concluded the session, she could have potentially tried to sell us subscription packages or follow-up sessions, but she didn’t, and I appreciated that. After providing us with our action plan, she left it up to us to decide if we wanted to come back for another session. When our appointment was over, I received a link in our chatroom to leave feedback. Overall, we were both very pleased with our experience with Relationship Hero and our coach, which is why they earned 5 out of 5 stars in the Online Marriage & Couples Counseling Scoring Features category from our independent review.
Who Is Relationship Hero Right For?
Relationship Hero would be a great option for those who are interested in coaching-style services, or in other words, non-traditional couples therapy. It’s also a valuable resource for partners who know what they want to work to strengthen their relationship and individuals who want dating advice.
You’re Interested in Coaching-Style Services
While coaches and therapists may seem very similar, there are a few distinct differences between the two. Therapists tend to focus on mental health conditions, past experiences, and they use evidence-based methods, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to create a treatment plan. Relationship coaches focus on improving the present and making a plan to achieve relationship goals in the near future.1 If you and your partner are not interested in digging into your past or receiving treatment for mental health disorders, couples coaching with Relationship Hero would be a desirable option.
You Know What You Want to Work On Together
Couples coaching can be a huge help to those who have already identified the problem and just need some guidance on how to resolve it. Relationship Hero’s coaches can help you better understand the issue at hand and offer solutions to help you and your partner effectively take steps toward a solution.
You Want Dating Advice
Relationship Hero is not just for couples; individuals can get a lot out of coaching as well. In the onboarding questionnaire, there are a few questions geared toward singles. For instance, in the question about what type of advice you’re seeking, you can choose answers like ‘dating advice,’ ‘getting over an ex,’ ‘understanding mixed signals,’ or ‘moving on’.
Who Might Want an Alternative to Relationship Hero?
You may want an alternative to Relationship Hero if you and your partner prefer to work with a licensed therapist or if you want in-person couples therapy. If you’re not a fan of the idea of shopping around for a relationship coach, you’ll also want to look into other options.
You Prefer a Licensed Therapist
As mentioned above, Relationship Hero offers couples coaching, which is not the same as traditional couples therapy. If you and your partner prefer to work with a licensed therapist, Talkspace Couples Therapy might be a better fit. They’ll match you with a licensed therapist for video, chat, or phone sessions.
You’re Looking for In-Person Couples Counseling
Online platforms and apps aren’t always the best format for everyone. Many couples gain more from therapy when they meet with a mental health professional in person. If you’re hoping to find a couples therapist in your area, be sure to check out our online therapist directory to find one that works for you.
You Don’t Want to Shop Around
If your assigned coach is not a good match, you’ll have to dig through their directory to find another one. That process was a bit overwhelming. I had to read and review the coaches’ backgrounds, check availability, and look at costs, which took a considerable amount of time. If you’re not up for this type of shopping-around challenge, you might prefer a platform that will find a new one automatically or assign a representative to match you with a new coach. Couples Therapy Inc. allows you to change therapists as many times as needed, and a representative will assist you in finding a new one.
Relationship Hero User Reviews
Relationship Hero has 4.6 stars from 16 reviews in the Apple App Store, 3.8 stars from 38 reviews in the Google Play Store, and 4.9 stars from 1.6K reviews on Trustpilot. The majority of Relationship Hero reviews were positive, with a focus on the effectiveness of the coaches. I was also surprised to see how many positive reviews were from individuals rather than couples. The few negative reviews appear to stem from scheduling issues.
Effective Coaching
The majority of the positive Relationship Hero reviews were about the quality and effectiveness of the coaches. Many reviewers mentioned their coaches by name and shared key nuggets of advice that improved their relationships. A few discussed being initially skeptical of seeking guidance from someone who is not a licensed therapist and then being pleasantly surprised with their outcomes, which was also my experience.
Not Just for Couples
While Relationship Coach is terrific for couples, it’s clear that it’s also a great resource for individuals. Several of the reviewers were not in couples coaching but were seeking support and coping tools for dealing with a breakup, reconnecting with an ex, or learning how to form new relationships.
Scheduling Issues
The few negative reviews mainly involved scheduling issues. Some users stated that they scheduled appointments, only to see that the session was booked by the time they entered their payment information. I personally did not experience any scheduling issues when I was using Relationship Hero.
Relationship Hero Vs. Competitors
Relationship Hero is a terrific option for dating or relationship advice, but it’s not the only option out there. Below you’ll find a brief comparative summary between Relationship Hero and two of its top competitors.
Relationship Hero Vs. Talkspace Couples Therapy
Talkspace Couples Therapy and Relationship Hero both fit under the umbrella of online couples counseling, but they have some distinct differences. Talkspace is a significant name in the telehealth therapy industry, and it offers a wide range of services, including individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as psychiatry services. Talkspace Couples Therapy will pair you with licensed therapists, while Relationship Hero matches you with relationship coaches who are not licensed.
Talkspace and Relationship Hero have similar onboarding processes with almost identical questionnaires, and both platforms bring you directly to a chatroom with your matched therapist/coach. However, with Tallkspace, you’ll pick your payment plan first and then you’re matched with a therapist. Relationship Hero matches you with a coach first, then you choose a payment plan. While you’re able to shop around for a coach at a price that works for you with Relationship Hero, Talkspace Couples Therapy has a flat subscription price of $436 a month ($109 weekly). Talkspace accepts major insurance plans, so overall costs may be less.
Relationship Hero Vs. Couples Therapy Inc.
Couples Therapy Inc. and Relationship Hero both offer online couples coaching services, but Couples Therapy Inc. also offers couples therapy with licensed therapists, as well as online and in-person couples retreats. Couples Therapy Inc. is solely focused on marriage and couples therapy, while Relationship Hero supports couples and singles looking for dating advice.
Couples Therapy Inc. enrollment process is a bit more hands on than Relationship Hero. Instead of an online questionnaire and a matching system via chatroom, like Relationship Hero and Talkspace, Couples Therapy Inc. hosts a private phone call with a client services representative where couples discuss their situation and preferences. You’ll then be matched with a therapist based on your preferences, availability, budget, and other factors. Couples Therapy Inc. and Relationship Hero’s coaches/therapists charge different rates that depend on their location and level of experience and training.
History of Relationship Hero
Relationship Hero was founded in 2017 by Liron Shapira and Lior Gotemasman. Shapira explains that both he and Gotemasman were single and looking to various resources for dating advice. They began to develop this relationship coaching concept into a business plan and launched Relationship Hero as an online platform and app. Relationship Hero has helped over 100,000 clients nationwide.2
