Why You Can Trust My Review
Over my years working as a clinician and as a reviewer, I have spent countless hours with a number of products and services for therapists. TherapyDen performed the best in the Search Features, Ease of Use, and Relative Cost categories because of its innovative search features, great usability, and affordability. Its lowest score was in the Potential Client Reach category due to a relatively low volume of users visiting the main search page.

What Is TherapyDen?
TherapyDen is a robust therapist directory with a focus on client inclusivity. A basic profile is available at no cost, and premium features are available on a “pay-what-you-can” basis with a minimum fee of $10 monthly.
Why Should You Create a TherapyDen Profile?
TherapyDen directory allows therapists to list and market their services to more clients in a free or very affordable way. For new or growing practices, the ability to gain even a bit of traction at a diminutive cost is very beneficial. There is no risk in beginning a free profile, as you will be losing no money, and setting up a profile is quick and easy, taking no more than 20 minutes.
Reasons to create a TherapyDen profile include:
Getting Attention From Potential Clients
TherapyDen allows you to market your practice to new clients by including you in its directory. A unique feature of TherapyDen is the level of detail in its therapist filtering system. Filters such as a therapist’s “familiarity with faith,” ethnicity, and ADA accessibility of offices allow clients to find the therapist that fits their specific needs.
While this level of filtering detail is unique among therapist directories, TherapyDen is not nearly as large or well-trafficked as competitors such as Psychology Today or Zocdoc. While this is a drawback to the directory, it also means that you may have far less competition from other practitioners – especially if you are conducting sessions in person in a large or densely populated area.
New clients are able to reach out to you from your profile listing by filling out a contact form and listing their details. You will then be able to contact this person directly to initiate services. TherapyDen does not have any features for client communication, so an additional EHR system will be needed to keep track of appointments and documentation. TherapyDen does include the ability to import clients into SimplePractice or other calendar systems.
Supporting an Independent & Inclusive Directory
The essence of TherapyDen feels less like a costly premium directory service, and far more like an independent and beneficial project that improves the quality of service received by clients with minimal cost from practitioners. The company only has two employees listed on LinkedIn, so it certainly plays into the “root for the little guy” attitude. Not to mention the most advanced features are available for far less than competitors, and the essential functions don’t cost anything at all.
How Much Does TherapyDen Cost?
TherapyDen costs nothing for basic features and premium features cost $10 – $30 monthly. Premium features include the ability to publish your practice in multiple states, having your listing featured higher in search results and throughout the website, and custom sub-headings.
TherapyDen is very unique in that a basic listing costs nothing, and a premium listing can cost as much as you feel comfortable with. This speaks to the intentions of the purveyors behind TherapyDen in creating a more inclusive and accessible therapist directory.
A free directory page on TherapyDen includes the ability to list:
- Specialties and services offered
- Specialized experiences such as body-positivity, sex worker positivity, neurodiversity-affirming care, people of different faiths, and many others
- Treatment orientation
- Detailed information about your experience and approach
- Office hours, location, and ADA accessibility

Who Is TherapyDen Right For?
While TherapyDen is particularly great for new practices and those on a tight budget, it can be a great option for practices looking to expand their caseloads. Even if you already pay for a profile on another directory, creating a free TherapyDen profile for the chance of gaining new clients is likely worth your time.
New Practices or Those on a Tight Budget
TherapyDen is particularly alluring for practices on a tight budget, as a basic profile can be made for free and a premium profile can cost as little as $10 monthly. This is less than almost every other therapist directory and is a great option for those just getting started.
Those Looking for Better Client-Therapist Matches
TherapyDen’s uniquely detailed matching and therapist filtering process enables clients to find a therapist that is better matched to their needs. If you have had experiences with poor client-therapist matches from other directories in the past, TherapyDen may be able to help you.
Any Practice Looking to Expand Their Caseload
TherapyDen is worth the time of just about every practice that is looking to gain new clients. A basic profile doesn’t cost anything and takes practically no time to create. Given this and the potential for new clients, it’s difficult to come up with a reason not to create a TherapyDen profile.
Who May Want an Alternative to TherapyDen?
TherapyDen is a great option to use primarily, or in tandem with other directories. However, if you’re looking to get listed on a large, well-known directory to generate the most traffic, or are looking for more practice management features, you may want to consider alternatives.
Those Looking to Get the Most Exposure Possible
TherapyDen is far smaller than the mainstream therapist directories. If you’re looking for a more well-known and heavily trafficked directory, you might consider looking for an alternative, or another directory to use in tandem with TherapyDen. Keep in mind, that more exposure is not always better, but sometimes, if you are looking to get started, you may be interested in getting as many eyes on your practice as you can.
Those Looking for More Practice Management Features
TherapyDen is pretty barebones in its features and does not offer any practice management features at this time. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive solution, a better option might be GoodTherapy. GoodTherapy offers billing features, a client portal, and continuing education credits for therapists.
SimplePractice – EHR & Marketing
SimplePractice is the top-rated EHR for practices that bill insurance.* It has everything you need to run your practice—from booking and scheduling to insurance and client billing. TherapyDen Vs. Psychology Today
Psychology Today and TherapyDen offer very similar services. Psychology Today is a larger therapist directory and is generally more well-known, so there is a greater chance of getting your practice exposed to a wide audience. However, Psychology Today’s filters are not as strong as TherapyDen, and competition with other therapists will be more difficult.
Psychology Today costs $29.95 monthly for a listing, as well as access to a telehealth platform. Meanwhile, TherapyDen is free to use for its basic features, and costs $10 – $30 monthly for premium features, with the ultimate cost being determined by you. It is important to note that even with a premium membership, TherapyDen does not offer any sort of extra features such as the telehealth platform included with Psychology Today.
TherapyDen Vs. GoodTherapy
GoodTherapy is an older and larger therapist directory compared to TherapyDen. It offers access to a wide audience of therapy-seekers, as well as options for continuing education credits and EHR features such as scheduling and billing.
Good Therapy costs $30.94 – $49.95 monthly, depending on features, whereas TherapyDen is free to use for its basic features, and costs $10 – $30 monthly for premium memberships. However, even with a premium TherapyDen subscription, there it lacks the EHR features and education resources that GoodTherapy has.
TherapyDen – Our Final Verdict
Since there are no costs, it’s difficult to argue against making a basic profile, and considering a premium profile if it suits your practice. During my review of TherapyDen, I found no reason to avoid this platform, and believe that it would benefit most practices – particularly those on a tight budget.
TherapyDen can’t compete with the sheer volume of traffic received by the likes of Psychology Today or Zocdoc. But, this directory may allow your profile to catch the attention of clients that have “fallen through the cracks.” Plus, if you live in a densely populated area, you will have far less competition than on the more popular directories.
You should consider signing up for TherapyDen if you:
- Are on a tight budget
- Don’t need a wide variety of extras
- Are looking for a good directory to use in tandem with other options
You should consider looking for an alternative to TherapyDen if you:
- Are looking for more comprehensive features
- Need a larger, more well-known directory to expose your practice to a larger audience
How to Get Started with TherapyDen
TherapyDen is very easy to get started with. The whole process is self-service, so you don’t have to worry about scheduling and attending an onboarding call. To get started, simply navigate to the TherapyDen sign-up page, enter a few details, and publish your profile. The whole process shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.
The steps to get started with TherapyDen are:
- Enter your practice details and your credentials (30 minutes)
- Publish your profile
- Wait for TherapyDen to verify your credentials and you will receive a “Verified” badge.
You will be able to publish your profile prior to your credentials being verified, however, your listing will lack the “Verified” badge. Once the verification process is complete, you will receive the badge so your clients know you are reputable.
