Dr. Carolina Osorio is board-certified in adult and geriatric psychiatry. She is a published, peer-reviewed author in epigenetics and brain disorders in aging. She has vast experience in treating psychiatric disorders that can affect an individual at any age. She has gained her expertise through over a decade of formal training and clinical practice. Her expertise includes the pharmacological treatment of anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, depression, bipolar disorders, and disease of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Osorio started working as an inpatient and outpatient doctor, where she gained experience managing mild forms of mental illness to more severe forms that required inpatient treatment. Dr. Osorio is very keen on knowing who will benefit from medication and who will not.
After two years, she moved into academia. Here she has trained countless doctors who want to become psychiatrists. Her level of expertise has gotten her multiple awards as faculty of the year, clinical faculty of the year, research faculty of the year, and teacher of the year. Dr. Osorio has worked in academia as an outpatient psychiatrist and as a physician providing medication management in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. Her approach to treating mental illness is through a whole person center approach. Through this lens, Dr. Osorio considers the biological, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects of an individual to discern when medications are appropriate or not.
Lastly, Dr. Osorio has worked as a consultant with the World Health Organization and Panamerican Health Organization, providing training on a low-intensity psychological intervention called Problem Management Plus (PM+). Her area of work has been in the Caribbean and Central and South America.
