- Hims does not prescribe Adderall or any other stimulant. It also doesn’t prescribe Xanax, Klonopin, or any other benzodiazepine, and it does not treat ADHD. This exclusion applies in every state.
- Hims currently treats depression and anxiety only, with eight generic medications such as sertraline and buspirone from $49 a month, cash only. They also include propranolol for performance anxiety.
- For stimulants or benzodiazepines online, Talkiatry (bills insurance) and Klarity (cash or insurance) can prescribe them where state law and the clinician allow. Brightside providers may prescribe certain stimulants to insured members in 9 states, but prescribes no benzodiazepines.
Adderall and Xanax are both popular and effective drugs, but they are also federally controlled. Adderall is a stimulant used for the treatment of ADHD, whereas Xanax is a benzodiazepine used for anxiety and panic disorder. Telehealth clinicians can only prescribe drugs like these under DEA rules, which, as of September 2026, allow it over video through December 31, 2026.
Hims is the men’s telehealth brand of Hims & Hers Health. It connects customers with independent providers who prescribe medication after an online intake, with medication shipped by mail. Its mental health service notes that it treats depression and anxiety, and Hims states that controlled substances, like Adderall and Xanax included, are not available through its platform.1

This table is current as of September 2026. The eight listed medications are generics that Hims labels FDA-approved.
If your symptoms point to a condition outside that scope, such as bipolar disorder or PTSD, a broader psychiatry service or an in-person psychiatrist fits better. Hims is also not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.
Does Hims prescribe Adderall or treat ADHD?
Hims does not prescribe Adderall and does not treat ADHD. Its mental health page states that controlled substances, including Adderall, Xanax, and Valium, are not available through the platform, and its psychiatry product pages repeat the rule.1 The policy currently applies in every state.
MedlinePlus describes Adderall as a central nervous system stimulant used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy, and the DEA lists it as a Schedule II drug, the category with a high potential for abuse.3 Vyvanse is also considered controlled, so it is also part of the exclusion. Hims has no product page for either, its help center returns no articles for “adderall” or “ADHD”, and it lists no non-stimulant ADHD medication. A 2022 Hims blog post discusses Adderall alternatives, but Hims sells no ADHD treatment.
Xanax, Klonopin and Benzodiazepines On Hims
Xanax, Klonopin, and any other benzodiazepine are not available through Hims. Its exclusion specifically names Xanax and Valium 1.1 MedlinePlus places Klonopin (clonazepam) in the same benzodiazepine class and the DEA lists Xanax as a Schedule IV drug.3 Because of these classifications Hims is not able to offer these medications.
For anxiety, Hims does offer the same SSRIs and SNRIs it uses for depression such as buspirone and bupropion XL. Propranolol is also available and has its own page. Hims describes it as a drug doctors sometimes prescribe off-label to control the physical symptoms of performance anxiety.
Why Can Other Online Services Prescribe Adderall?
The Ryan Haight Act of 2008 generally requires at least one in-person evaluation before a controlled substance can be prescribed remotely.4 The DEA has temporarily waived that requirement through a series of pandemic-era rules. The latest extension, issued December 31, 2025, allows DEA-registered practitioners to prescribe Schedule II to V medications through audio-video telehealth through December 31, 2026.5 In August 2026, the DEA sent a new telemedicine special registration rule to the White House for review. If finalized, it could change the rules again before the current waiver expires.6
States can also set their own restrictions.6 For example, Talkiatry reports that Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Rhode Island prohibit telehealth prescribing of controlled substances entirely.7
As of September 2026, some online services can prescribe stimulants in most states as long as they meet federal and state requirements. Hims takes a different approach: the company does not prescribe controlled substances in any state, regardless of whether telehealth prescribing is legally permitted there.
Getting a Prescription on Hims
The initial consultation is free and you will start by filling out an intake about your symptoms and medical history, which Hims says takes about 10 minutes. A provider then reviews it and depending on your state replies by secure message or asks you to book a video visit.
When we walked through the signup flow in the browser we found it opens by asking about your mood and notes that answers given before you create an account are not used in the medical assessment.
Who Decides Your Medication
The provider who reviews your intake sends a personalized treatment plan to you. Every product is available only if prescribed after that consultation, so a prescription is never guaranteed. The provider may be a psychiatrist or another qualified psychiatry provider. Hims says all its providers hold US licenses and board certification in fields such as family medicine, internal medicine and psychiatry.
Refills and Pharmacy
Plans include unlimited evaluations, medication adjustments, and follow-ups, with provider messaging (not live chat). When a prescription runs out, you complete a follow-up visit from an emailed link. Medication ships from Hims’s partner pharmacies, and Hims advertises free shipping on mental health prescriptions. With an active subscription, Hims can also transfer a prescription to your local pharmacy, where prices may differ.
Hims Mental Health Pricing
Hims mental health plans start at $49 per month when medication is prescribed. Plans are paid upfront, and the total cost depends on the medication and plan length. Hims does not show the plan length or total amount and you will be charged until after you create an account. Hims does not accept insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
Eligible plans can be paid over time through Klarna. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the next payment. Hims also does not guarantee a refund once the pharmacy has processed an order. Our Hims mental health review covers the plans and pricing in more detail.
If you are looking for an SSRI, SNRI, bupropion, or buspirone and do not need a controlled medication, the Hims assessment is free and treatment is available through cash-pay plans.

User Reviews
As of September 2026, Hims has a 2.9 out of 5 TrustScore on Trustpilot based on 9,395 reviews and a 4.8 out of 5 rating in the Apple App Store based on 95,525 ratings. The Better Business Bureau has accredited Hims & Hers since 2018 but does not give the company a rating. The BBB lists 4,471 complaints over the past three years.
Positive reviews often mention how fast the process is. Some reviewers report getting a prescription within about a day without having to schedule an appointment, and several say their anxiety or depression medication worked well. Others felt the process was too rushed.
The most common complaints involve continuity of care and billing. Some reviewers say they see a different provider each time and do not get as much psychiatric support or follow-up as they expected. Others report being charged for or receiving a prescription they did not agree to, followed by difficulty canceling or getting a refund. None of the Trustpilot reviews mention receiving Adderall or Xanax.
Where To Find A Stimulants or Benzodiazepines Prescription Online
Talkiatry, Brightside and Klarity can prescribe controlled substances online, but none of them guarantees a specific drug.
If you have commercial insurance, Talkiatry treats ADHD and anxiety through DEA-registered psychiatrists, who can prescribe stimulants in most states where it operates. Talkiatry bills insurance and does not take Medicaid. After insurance billing, most patients pay $30.
Its help center sets two conditions for any stimulant or benzodiazepines:
- The psychiatrist must judge it appropriate after an evaluation
- Your state must allow prescribing without an in-person visit.8
If you have insurance and live in one of nine states, Brightside treats ADHD. In Arizona, California, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington its providers may prescribe certain stimulants to members using insurance; however, it does not prescribe benzodiazepines in any state.9 Self-pay psychiatry is $95 a month plus your pharmacy copay.
If you want to pay cash or use another plan, Klarity is a marketplace of more than 2,000 licensed providers in all 50 states that accepts over 400 insurance plans. With self-pay from $51 and medication paid separately. Klarity says providers can prescribe Adderall by telehealth in most states after a full evaluation, but not every provider prescribes controlled substances, and some states require an in-person visit first.10
If you prefer in-person care, a local psychiatrist who evaluates you in person and meets the federal in-person requirement,4 would be a good fit. In-person care also suits complex cases, continuity of care, and can be a great fit for anyone who wants one doctor over the long term or a more hands on approach.
Other Medications At Hims
Hims & Hers covers more than just mental health. They also aid with sexual health, hair loss, skin care, weight loss, testosterone, menopause, and lab testing in all 50 states, although some treatments are limited to certain states.
Generic Viagra (sildenafil) starts at $22 a month, hair loss products start at $22, and GLP-1 weight loss medication starts at $149 a month plus a separate membership. Our Hims ED review covers the sexual health plans.
