At a glance
  • Leaving over price as a part-time or solo practitioner: Carepatron has a free plan with unlimited clients, one-to-one video, and AI note-taking, plus paid plans at $31 and $39/month as of 22 September 2026, compared with Jane’s $54 to $99.
  • Paying for several practitioners: Zanda charges $49/month plus $19 for each additional practitioner, where Jane charges $35 to $40, and SimplePractice charges $74.
  • Billing US insurance: TherapyNotes is $69 a month with claims, ERAs, and eligibility checks at 14 cents each and no separate clearinghouse account, against Jane’s $20 add-on plus a Claim.MD subscription.

US plans for Jane App are $54/month for Balance (capped at 20 appointments), then $79 for Practice and $99 for Thrive. Jane sells the same software to therapists and to chiropractic, physiotherapy, and massage clinics, and one subscription covers scheduling, charting, video sessions, and card payments. Balance rose from $39 to $54 between July and September 20251, and cost for a part-time solo practice is the complaint that comes up most often in Jane’s user reviews2. Jane also has no free trial and no annual billing, so you pay the monthly rate from day one.

Quick picks

The cheapest option depends on whether you are a solo practitioner with a small caseload, a group paying per practitioner seat, or a practice filing US insurance claims. All seven below offer a free trial; Jane does not.

  • Best for a part-time or solo caseload: Carepatron, free for unlimited clients or $31/month for the Plus plan.
  • Best for a group paying per practitioner: Zanda, $49/month plus $19 per additional practitioner, with unlimited free admin users.
  • Best for US insurance billing: TherapyNotes, $69/month with claims and ERAs at 14 cents each.
  • Best for a mental health practice that wants a long trial: SimplePractice, 30 days on the top plan with no credit card.
  • Best for programs, courses, and nutrition work: Practice Better, $35 to $99 a month solo, with a free tier for students.
  • Best for a very small caseload: Healthie, $19.99/month for up to 10 active clients.
  • Best for massage, chiropractic, and physiotherapy clinics: Noterro, $33 to $77/month with extra seats from $13.20.

How the Jane App competitors compare

Prices below are the published monthly USD rates on each company’s own pricing page as of 22 September 2026, for a practice in the United States. Several of these vendors will be repriced in 2025 as well. SimplePractice raised Starter from $29 to $49 in March 2025, and Practice Better raised every paid tier in July 2025.

Carepatron offers the lowest cost for small practices.

Carepatron is a practice management platform that supports more types of professionals than similar apps like Jane. It works for counselors, psychologists, social workers, dentists, dietitians, chiropractors, massage therapists, and personal trainers. The free plan lets you have unlimited clients, one-on-one telehealth, a client portal, online payments, charting, and AI note-taking, but limits storage to 1 GB. In comparison, Jane’s entry plan costs $54 and only allows 20 appointments per month.

As of September 22, 2026, paid plans cost $31 per month for Plus and $39 for Advanced, and you can try them free for 14 days without a credit card. The Plus plan gives you unlimited storage, group telehealth, group scheduling and notes, a shared inbox, and custom branding. For billing, Carepatron stores insurance details, fills out CMS-1500 forms and superbills with CPT and diagnosis codes, and submits claims electronically through Claim.MD. This means US practices use the same clearinghouse as Jane.

Recent reviews mention Carepatron bugs, such as notes not saving, cameras not connecting during video sessions, and autosave freezing note editing. Support is available by email and chat, but it is not 24/7. On Trustpilot, Carepatron scores 3.6 out of 5 from 41 reviews, while Jane has 4.1 from 1,145 reviews. On Capterra, 859 reviewers give Carepatron a 4.4, with value for money as its top rating. If your practice can handle occasional issues, the Plus plan is $31 per month, compared to $79 for a solo user on Jane’s Practice plan.

Zanda costs the least per practitioner

Zanda, formerly Power Diary, runs a US claims workflow from its Australian base, and its US prices are the published rates as of 22 September 2026. Starter is $19 a month for one practitioner, 1,000 appointments, unlimited clients, 100 GB of storage, and one admin user. Growth is $49 a month plus $19 for each additional practitioner, with unlimited free admin users, and it adds rooms and resources, multiple locations, practitioner scheduling, waitlists, and bulk communications, which are the clinic tools Jane reserves for its $99 Thrive plan.

Five practitioners cost $125 a month on Zanda Growth against $219 on Jane Practice or $259 on Thrive. Every Zanda plan includes a free telehealth option, and unlimited video is a $9-per-practitioner add-on, while Jane includes one-to-one video and charges $15 for couples, family, and group sessions. Zanda runs a 14-day trial with no card, free data migration, and a 12-month money-back guarantee that no other vendor here publishes.

Stripe is the only payment processor, so a clinic on Square would have to move. SMS is charged per message. Reviewers report that migration took manual effort and that calendar sync runs one way. Trustpilot rates Zanda 4.7 out of 5 from 556 reviews, the highest score of any low-cost option here3. Zanda is not a ChoosingTherapy partner, and we earn nothing if you sign up.

TherapyNotes for US insurance billing

TherapyNotes covers behavioral health only, and it is the pick for a US therapist whose insurance claims are the expensive part of the Jane bill. Solo is $69 a month. Electronic claims, ERAs, and eligibility checks cost 14 cents each with no clearinghouse subscription, where Jane charges a $20 monthly add-on on top of a separately billed Claim.MD account. A solo therapist filing 40 claims a month pays about $74.60 on TherapyNotes against roughly $138 on Jane.

Every plan includes the same features: unlimited clients, appointments, and notes; free client data import from another EMR; secure messaging; a client portal; one-to-one telehealth; unlimited file storage; and 24/7 phone and email support. The trial is 30 days with no credit card. Couples and group video is a $15 per clinician add-on for sessions of up to 16 participants, the same price Jane charges for group telehealth. Trustpilot scores it 4.9 out of 5 from 3,167 reviews, the highest of any product in this comparison4.

It will not work for a mixed clinic. TherapyNotes has no chiropractic, physiotherapy, or massage workflows; no room or equipment booking; and no packages, so a Jane clinic with a psychologist and two massage therapists can’t operate as one. Extra clinicians are $50 a month versus Jane’s $35 to $40; text reminders cost 14 cents each, while Jane’s SMS is free on Practice and Thrive; and card processing is 3.1% plus 30 cents versus Jane’s 2.85% plus 25 cents. TherapyNotes is not a ChoosingTherapy partner, and we earn nothing if you sign up with it.

SimplePractice has claims built in and a 30-day trial

SimplePractice is the largest mental health platform in this set, with about 250,000 practitioners, and it also serves allied and integrative health. Solo plans are Starter ($49), Essential ($79), and Plus ($99). Insurance is included on all three with no clearinghouse account: electronic primary and secondary claims, ERA enrollments, claim scrubbing, CMS-1500s, and superbills. From 1 October 2026, every plan pays 39 cents per submitted claim with no free claims, replacing the old tiered rates, plus a $20 annual AMA CPT code fee per clinician5. Telehealth is on every plan with no limit on session length or number.

You get 30 days on the Plus plan with no credit card, and converting within the first week takes 50% off for three months. Jane has no trial and requires a credit card on file. Our SimplePractice review covers the plan differences in more detail, and if you are weighing both products, we also compare SimplePractice alternatives.

Starter is thin: reminders work only for telehealth appointments; there is no secure messaging, calendar sync, customizable progress note templates, or group appointments, and it starts at $79. Price hikes are the most frequent complaint, with Starter going from $29 to $49 in March 2025 and free claims disappearing this October. Trustpilot rates SimplePractice 2.8 out of 5 from 1,612 reviews, well below Jane’s 4.14. Extra clinicians cost $74 a month, more than double Jane’s rate, so a group leaving Jane for price will pay more here.

Practice Better runs programs and courses

Practice Better, a Toronto-based company utilized by over 50,000 practitioners, manages structured programs more effectively than comparable applications such as Jane. The platform supports fixed-date, self-paced, evergreen, and email-only formats, as well as group programs, protocols, and food and mood journals within the client application. These features are particularly suitable for practices offering six-week courses or group coaching in addition to individual sessions.

The pricing structure includes a free Sprout plan for students and recent graduates with up to three clients, a Starter plan at $35 for 10 clients, a Professional plan at $69 for 300 clients, a Plus plan at $99 for unlimited clients and storage, and a Team plan at $155 with two practitioner licenses, with an additional $50 for each extra license. Annual billing offers up to a 10% discount, reducing the Plus plan to $89 per month, whereas Jane does not provide an annual rate. United States insurance claims are processed through Claim.MD, the same clearinghouse used by Jane; however, Practice Better does not charge additional or per-claim fees.

The trial requires a credit card and lasts 14 days for solo plans and 30 days for the Team plan, with charges applied at the end of the trial period. Reviewers frequently note a steep learning curve and an outdated interface, although a redesigned version is scheduled for release by September 2026. Group video functionality is provided through Zoom integration, meaning participant limits are determined by the user’s Zoom plan. Templates and screening tools are primarily designed for dietitians rather than therapists. Trustpilot rates the platform at 3.8 based on 74 reviews. For a five-person group, the Team plan plus three additional seats totals $305 per month, compared to Jane Practice at $219, indicating a higher cost for these features.

See Practice Better’s plans

Healthie starts at under $20 a month

Healthie’s Core plan costs $19.99 per month and supports up to 10 active clients, including scheduling, payment processing, charting, telehealth, a client portal, and iOS and Android apps. For therapists building a part-time caseload, this is one of the most affordable entry points among Jane App competitors, and it doesn’t impose appointment-count limits as Jane’s $54 Balance plan does. The Essentials plan is $49.99 for 250 active clients and includes SMS reminders, CMS 1500 forms, custom form building, ClaimMD integration, and free outbound fax. The Plus plan is $129.99 for unlimited clients and includes group telehealth via Zoom, online programs, and a dedicated eFax line. Annual billing reduces each tier’s cost by 10%.

Group pricing starts at $149.99 a month for one provider seat and one support member seat, with additional provider licenses at $50, and every standard role gets a free support account. The trial is 14 days on the Plus plan with no credit card. Healthie is HIPAA and SOC 2-compliant and runs an ONC-certified EHR, with behavioral health intake templates, one-click group session charting, and auto-scored PHQ-9 forms.

Insurance claims and eligibility checks run through ClaimMD starting at $25 a month with a $50 to $100 setup fee, and an inbound e-fax line is $9.99 a month. The jump from Essentials at $49.99 to Plus at $129.99 is steep: a solo therapist with a full caseload pays $30.99 more than Jane’s top plan. Capterra’s 124 reviewers score it 4.4, and their most common complaint is the lack of phone support. Nutrition businesses and digital health companies are Healthie’s core customers, not talk therapy practices.

Look at Healthie’s plans

Noterro for massage, chiropractic and physiotherapy clinics

Many allied health practitioners choose Noterro, a Canadian software, when Jane becomes too expensive. Noterro offers the lowest seat pricing among multi-discipline options. The Core plan is $33 per month, Plus is $55, and Max is $77, each including one practitioner. Extra seats cost $13.20, $22.00, or $27.50, depending on the plan. If you pay annually, you get a 15% discount. Jane charges $35 to $40 per full-time practitioner, so a five-person clinic would pay $187 per month for Noterro Max, compared to $219 for Jane Practice. Noterro’s entry plan at $33 has no appointment limit, while Jane’s $54 Balance plan caps appointments at 20.

All Noterro plans include a clinic-branded client app, unlimited locations and assistants, the Noterro Scribe AI tool, and form summaries. The Plus plan adds text and call reminders, insurance codes and policies, and US superbills. The Max plan includes packages, memberships with automatic payments, CMS-1500 auto-fill, and works with Availity, Office Ally, and Trizetto. Noterro offers free migration from a Jane account backup, bringing over patients, appointments, clinical notes, intake forms, invoices, and transactions. The free trial lasts 14 days and does not require a credit card. On Capterra, Noterro has a 4.8 rating from 626 reviews.

Noterro does not have built-in telehealth, as confirmed in its documentation. Practitioners can add a Zoom link to appointment reminders if needed. The software does not offer room booking, and AI features use a credit system. Noterro is not a ChoosingTherapy partner, so there is no tracked link here and we do not earn any commission from it.

Is Jane still right for some people?

Many clinics also switch to Jane, with reviewers often coming from SimplePractice, TherapyNotes, Practice Better, and older clinic systems2. Jane charges $35 per month for each extra full-time practitioner on the Practice plan and $40 on Thrive. In comparison, SimplePractice charges $74, and both TherapyNotes and Practice Better charge $50. Jane only counts practitioners with bookable hours, so you can have as many receptionists or billers as you need at no extra cost. Jane Payments charges 2.85% plus 25 cents per online transaction, which is lower than SimplePractice at 3.15% plus 30 cents and TherapyNotes at 3.1% plus 30 cents. On $5,000 in card payments per month, this saves about $15.

This makes Jane a more affordable choice for practices with several clinicians. For example, a five-person group pays $219 per month on Jane Practice, compared to $279 on TherapyNotes, $305 on Practice Better, $349.99 on Healthie, and $395 on SimplePractice. Zanda at $125 and Noterro at $187 are less expensive. Jane offers free support, onboarding, and data import on all plans, including phone support. On Capterra, 534 reviewers rate Jane 4.8 out of 5, with customer service also scoring 4.8, the highest on its profile2. Features like rooms and equipment scheduling, classes, packages, memberships, and self check-in on Thrive are not available in the mental-health-only products listed here.

Jane is a good choice if you run a multi-discipline clinic, plan to add more practitioners, or process a high volume of card payments. You can find a full breakdown of plans, add-ons, and which tier fits your needs in our Jane App review.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Jane App alternatives?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Carepatron, Zanda, TherapyNotes, SimplePractice, Practice Better, Healthie, and Noterro all cover the same ground Jane does: scheduling, charting, client portals, and payments. Carepatron is the cheapest for a small caseload, with a free plan and paid tiers at $31 and $39. Zanda is cheapest for a group at $49 plus $19 per practitioner. TherapyNotes is the pick for a US therapist billing insurance at $69 a month with claims at 14 cents.

Who are Jane App’s main competitors?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

In mental health, SimplePractice and TherapyNotes are the two Jane competes with most often, and SimplePractice is the larger of the two, with roughly 250,000 practitioners. In allied health, Noterro and Zanda are the closest matches on discipline coverage and price. Practice Better, Healthie, and Carepatron compete across both groups.

Are there apps like Jane with a free trial?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Yes. Jane has no free trial and instead offers a demo call, a community, and a shared demo clinic. SimplePractice and TherapyNotes both offer 30 days with no credit card, while Carepatron, Healthie, Noterro, and Zanda offer 14 days on the same terms. Practice Better’s 14-day trial is the only one that requires a card up front.

What apps are similar to Jane for chiropractic, physio and massage clinics?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Noterro and Zanda are the closest fits. Noterro covers chiropractic, massage, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and podiatry with seats from $13.20 a month, and Zanda covers the same disciplines with rooms, multiple locations, and waitlists on its $49 Growth plan. Carepatron also lists chiropractors, massage therapists, and physical therapists among its users. TherapyNotes is built for behavioral health only and doesn’t support those workflows. SimplePractice lists massage therapists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists among the practitioners it serves, so it is the closer of the two for a mixed clinic.

Which Jane App alternative is cheapest?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Carepatron, because its free plan includes unlimited clients, telehealth, and AI notes. Among paid plans, Zanda Starter at $19 a month is the lowest published rate, followed by Healthie Core at $19.99 for up to 10 active clients and Carepatron Plus at $31. All three undercut Jane’s $54 Balance plan, and none of them caps you at 20 appointments a month.

Which Jane alternatives handle US insurance billing without a separate clearinghouse?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

TherapyNotes and SimplePractice. TherapyNotes charges 14 cents per electronic claim, ERA, or eligibility request on top of its $69 monthly plan. SimplePractice charges 39 cents per submitted claim from 1 October 2026 plus a $20 annual CPT fee per clinician. Practice Better, Healthie, and Carepatron all route through Claim.MD, which is the same arrangement Jane uses.

Can I take my data with me if I leave Jane?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Jane provides one complimentary batch chart export per practitioner as labeled PDFs with an Excel mapping file and asks for one to two weeks’ notice. You can export patient lists and appointments to Excel from the Reports area at any time. Fees already paid are not refunded, and the account is deactivated rather than deleted. Noterro runs a free migration that starts from a Jane account backup, and Zanda imports your client list for free on Starter and migrates your full database for free on Growth.

Does the Jane App cost more than it did last year?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Jane’s Balance plan went from $39 to $54 a month between July and September 2025, a 38.5% increase1, while Practice at $79 and Thrive at $99 have held since the April 2024 restructure. Several alternatives repriced in the same period: SimplePractice raised Starter from $29 to $49 in March 2025, and Practice Better raised every paid tier in July 2025.
