- NOCD has no subscription. Therapy is billed per session, so leaving means cancelling your booked sessions and telling NOCD you’re ending, by text to 312-766-6780, through the Canceling option on its contact form, or by email to care@nocdhelp.com.
- Give at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. A later cancellation or a missed session costs $100 for 60 minutes, $75 for 45 or $50 for 30, charged to your card on file.
- Insured members can keep getting bills for 4 to 6 weeks after their last session while claims process. NOCD publishes no refund policy, and deleting your data is a separate request to privacy@nocdhelp.com.
NOCD is an online OCD treatment program. Its therapists treat OCD with exposure and response prevention (ERP) via video sessions, with messaging and self-help tools available in the NOCD app. You pay for each session after it happens, at the cash rate or through your health insurance.1 NOCD has a 48-hour cancellation policy, which means you must give that much notice to avoid being charged.

What is the best therapy for OCD?
Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ERP). Do live video sessions with a therapist who specializes in ERP, the gold standard treatment for OCD. Treatment from NOCD is covered by many insurance plans. Start with a free 15 minute call
Common reasons people stop NOCD therapy
Research shows that about one in five people who start therapy drop out early, according to a 2012 review of 669 studies.2 There are many reasons for this, some of which we’ll cover below:
Financial constraints
Insurance can take 4-6 weeks to process an NOCD claim. If several claims finish processing around the same time, you may have several copays at once. NOCD emails before each charge and offers interest-free payment plans of $50 or $95 a week through billing@nocdhelp.com. The total owed stays the same on a plan, and NOCD publishes no sliding scale.1 That said, billing issues account for 7 of NOCD’s 20 BBB complaints over three years.
If your insurance has changed, upload the new card on your account’s billing page. NOCD usually verifies it within two business days. If a therapist you’ve seen turns out to be out of network, NOCD says you won’t owe for those sessions and will let you switch to cash pay or an in-network therapist.__1 If NOCD doesn’t take your new plan, other options like Grow Therapy and Rula bill insurance per session and offer ERP.
A therapist who doesn’t understand your OCD
Feeling safe and witnessed is a key part of successful therapy. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right match. NOCD’s own guidance on switching quotes psychologist Nicholas Farrell, PhD: the most common reason people change OCD therapists is not feeling understood, and seeing someone who isn’t an ERP expert is another good reason.3
NOCD allows you to view therapists licensed in your state and book either a new one yourself or ask a Member Advocate to rematch you. There are no fees for switching.
ERP feels too hard, or sessions feel repetitive
ERP is supposed to be uncomfortable. That is what makes growth possible.
NOCD’s switching guide says a good ERP therapist prepares you for some distress, and that no discomfort or too much discomfort suggest the treatment isn’t being done well.3 In a VA study of 2,606 veterans in exposure therapy, clinicians attributed 45% of dropouts to difficulty tolerating treatment. Measurable worsening between sessions, however, was rare at 0.5%.__10
NOCD’s treatment plan starts at two sessions a week and ends in monthly maintenance sessions, and some members step down to monthly check-ins. NOCD has no formal pause feature, so if twice-weekly therapy feels like too much, you can talk with your therapist about spacing sessions out. Our guide to whether OCD can be cured covers what ongoing management looks like.
NOCD is not for emergencies. If sessions are leaving you feeling worse, tell your therapist. If you feel unsafe or are thinking about suicide or self-harm, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or text HOME to 741-741 for the Crisis Text Line.
Schedules, late fees and moving states
Scheduling conflicts accounted for 12.8% of dropouts in the same VA study.4 At NOCD, cancelling with less than 48 hours’ notice means paying a late fee.
If you’re moving to a new state, you will need to see a therapist licensed to see you in that state.5 NOCD has therapists in all 50 states.
Wanting to quit right after a hard exposure
In the VA study, clinicians linked 9.2% of dropouts to avoiding treatment.4 If the urge to quit therapy shows up right after a difficult exposure, it may be worth bringing that reaction into your next session before doing so.
Medication from an outside prescriber
NOCD doesn’t prescribe, so any prescription stays with your outside prescriber when you leave. Talk to them before changing anything.

How to cancel NOCD appointments and therapy
NOCD handles cancellations by app message, text, email or contact form, and publishes no click-by-click cancel steps for its app.
Cancel or reschedule one NOCD appointment
To cancel a NOCD appointment without a fee:
- Make the change at least 48 hours before the session starts.
- Message your therapist or a Member Advocate in the NOCD app, or text 312-766-6780, the number NOCD gives for reschedule and cancel questions.6
- Or use NOCD’s contact form and choose Canceling or Scheduling future session. Replies come by email within 2 business days, so text for a session that’s close.7
End NOCD therapy altogether
- Cancel every booked session at least 48 hours ahead.
- Tell NOCD you’re ending: choose Canceling on the contact form, text 312-766-6780 or email care@nocdhelp.com. You can notify your therapist either in session or through a message.
- Download invoices and superbills (for out-of-network reimbursement) from your account’s billing section.
- If a new clinician will take over, choose Records Request on the contact form; a release to another clinician needs your written consent.8
- Watch your email for trailing copays, and ask billing@nocdhelp.com for a payment plan if several arrive together.
Delete your NOCD account and data
You can still access the NOCD app and community even if you aren’t receiving therapy. But if you wish to delete your account, you can still pursue that option. Our NOCD review covers the app.
To have your data erased, email privacy@nocdhelp.com or call 312-766-6780. NOCD may ask you to confirm your name and email. It claims it will act as soon as reasonably practicable and can refuse where the law requires it to keep information.8 Clinical records are kept as the law and ethical guidelines require, with no retention period stated.5 Before deleting your account, pay any remaining balance and download any superbills you may need.
NOCD late cancellation fee, no-show charges and refunds
NOCD sets one fee schedule for every member, and it covers a missed session the same way as a late cancellation.

From NOCD’s billing resources and billing FAQs, checked September 28, 2026.1
Members sign the policy before treatment. Disputes go to care@nocdhelp.com. Medicare doesn’t pay for missed appointments, and providers may bill the patient directly when the policy applies to everyone.9 Federal Medicaid rules bar charging Medicaid members for missed appointments.10 NOCD’s policy doesn’t mention Medicaid, so if you have Medicaid, ask billing how the policy applies to your plan.
In a BBB complaint resolved in July 2026, a member charged four $100 fees while out of state had two credited and two kept.
NOCD’s Terms, enrollment agreement and billing pages contain no refund policy. They do indicate a few situations where a charge can be reduced or disputed. There is no charge for sessions with a therapist who turns out to be out of network. Cash payers can dispute a bill at least $400 above their Good Faith Estimate, and billing errors can be reviewed through care@nocdhelp.com.111 Users report refunds after billing mistakes, handled case by case.
A billing FAQ NOCD wrote during the 2024 Change Healthcare claims outage, still on its site, says it won’t charge a card more than $500 at once and emails members whose balance nears $1,800.7 NOCD hasn’t said whether those limits still apply outside that outage.
When your NOCD therapist cancels
NOCD’s enrollment agreement says therapists should let members know when they’ll be away. If absences exceed two weeks in a row, they must offer another NOCD therapist in the meantime. Therapists also agree to answer messages within one business day.5 NOCD publishes no credit or fee waiver for sessions a therapist cancels.
2026 user reports include therapists on extended leave with appointments cancelled at short notice. If it happens, ask a Member Advocate for an interim therapist or book a new one.
If you decide to leave NOCD
If the issue is your therapist rather than ERP itself, switching within NOCD may be simpler than starting over somewhere else.
ERP through insurance, with a directory. Grow Therapy sessions average $21 with insurance across 125+ plans, and its directory filters therapists by ERP. Grow warns that not every therapist listing OCD has dedicated training, so ask.
ERP through insurance, with a 24-hour cancellation window. Rula lists ERP for OCD, and sessions average $15 with insurance across 180+ plans. A no-show or a cancellation within 24 hours of a therapy visit costs $99.
Medication alongside therapy. Brightside treats OCD and charges $349 a month for therapy and medication on self-pay, or a $25 average copay per session with insurance.
A lower weekly cash price for general therapy. Talkspace starts at $69 a week out of pocket, and most insured members pay $0. BetterHelp runs $70 to $100 a week. Both are generalist services, and BetterHelp publishes no ERP program.
Face-to-face ERP. For in-person sessions, search your insurer’s directory for a local ERP therapist. NOCD names intensive and inpatient treatment as outside what it offers.
