- Choose Optum Perks if you want free coupons with no membership, or a $39 telehealth refill that also accepts Medicare. Choose GoodRx if you would pay $14.99 a month for Companion, which makes over 200 common generics free.
- Both free coupons cost $0, claim savings of up to 80%, and cannot be combined with insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
- Price: neither service was cheapest at every pharmacy in our checks, so look up your drug on both, at your pharmacy, before you pay.
Optum Perks and GoodRx are free prescription discount services for people who pay cash at the pharmacy. On either one, you look up a drug such as sertraline or bupropion to see what nearby pharmacies charge, then show the matching coupon when you pick it up. RVO Health runs Optum Perks, a company partially owned by UnitedHealth Group’s Optum, and GoodRx is a separate, publicly traded company. As of September 2026, only GoodRx sells a paid coupon plan, and the two run separate telehealth services under different privacy terms.

Choose Optum Perks if
Optum Perks fits readers who want only the free coupon, plus people who want a one-off refill visit without a subscription. Our Optum Perks review covers the service in more depth.
- You pay cash and want no membership. Its drug pages show only free coupon prices, and the card has no fees or expiration date.
- You are on Medicare and want a telehealth refill. Online Care accepts Medicare for visits and doesn’t list an upper age limit, while GoodRx Care serves adults up to 65.
- You need an occasional refill without insurance. Online Care charges $39 per prescription request and is available 24/7. The fee is HSA- and FSA-eligible.
- You want non-controlled medication mailed to you. Delivery prices are listed up front, with shipping from $5.
- Your pharmacy is a small independent one. Optum Perks offers an independent pharmacy coupon for stores that do not appear in its search.
Choose GoodRx if
GoodRx fits readers who take several common generics every month, and readers who care most about limits on advertising use of their health data.
- If you take generics on Companion’s free list, you’ll pay $14.99 a month. In June 2026, sertraline 50 mg was $0.00 with Companion at Walmart and several grocery chains, and in July 2026, lamotrigine 100 mg was $0.00 at most chains.
- You want the biggest pharmacy network. GoodRx lists over 70,000 pharmacies to Optum Perks‘ 64,000.1
- Advertising use of your health data matters most to you. Since 2023, GoodRx has been barred from sharing health data with third parties for advertising.
- You want to pay before pickup. GoodRx’s Pay Online option lets you pay on its website or app at some pharmacies, such as Safeway and Wegmans, and pick up with nothing due.
If you have insurance and are still working toward your deductible, a coupon purchase does not count toward it automatically. GoodRx suggests asking your insurer whether you can submit receipts for deductible credit, while Optum Perks says card spending will not count.12

GoodRx prices come from archived copies of its drug pages, dated by each page’s “prices last updated” line and rendered for ZIP 20149. Optum Perks prices are its default listing with no location set. Both companies say coupon prices can change month to month, and chain prices vary by ZIP code.On both services, the same drug cost several times more at one chain than at another. On Optum Perks, quetiapine 100 mg was $8.99 at Walmart and $46.16 at Walgreens; on GoodRx, it was $10.69 at Sam’s Club and $29.66 at CVS. In these checks, neither service showed the lower price at every chain.GoodRx often lists Walmart’s own cash price, marked “No Coupon Necessary,” in place of a coupon, and it treats those cash prices as estimates. Since June 2026, GoodRx drug pages have also led with the Companion membership price, showing the free coupon price as the “Standard GoodRx price” for the pharmacy you select. Some chains’ free coupon prices do not appear in the list. This article is for information only and is not medical advice. Paid plans: GoodRx Companion and Gold
Optum Perks has no paid tier for its coupons. Paid items include Online Care at $39 per prescription request and delivery shipping at $5, $14, or $20.GoodRx launched Companion on May 27, 2026. It costs $14.99 a month or $119.88 a year and renews automatically, so you need to cancel at least one day before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.3 Companion includes:
- over 200 medications free and hundreds more under $10
- $19 online care visits, seven days a week
- discounts on dental, vision, lab and imaging services
GoodRx says eligible drugs and prices can change at any time. A Family Plan lets you add up to four immediate family members or pets, but the terms do not state a separate family price. Companion is not available in Washington, and Oklahoma does not offer discounted provider visits. Fees are non-refundable, except that residents of 30 listed states, including Texas, Florida and Illinois, can cancel within 30 days of enrolling for a full refund.3 GoodRx drug pages advertised a seven-day free trial in June and July 2026.GoodRx’s current paid plan is Companion, and its older Gold plan still appears in GoodRx’s help pages. Those pages list Gold at $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year for one person, $19.99 a month for a family, with a 30-day free trial. Gold’s price protection feature ended on December 31, 2025.4
Telehealth refills and controlled substances
Both companies run a telehealth service that can send a prescription to your pharmacy. Neither offers talk therapy or ongoing psychiatric care.
Optum Perks Online Care
Online Care costs $39 per prescription request, and the medication is billed separately. Clinicians include MDs and nurse practitioners in all 50 states and usually respond within 15 minutes during business hours.7. You are not charged if your concern cannot be treated online. The general medication refill visit covers anxiety and depression as a short-term refill, and controlled substances are not available.
GoodRx Care
GoodRx Care visits happen by text, call, or video with independent, physician-owned medical groups, and cover mental health and primary care, among other areas, for adults aged 18 to 65.8 Visits cost $19 with a membership. GoodRx’s own pages quote different non-member prices, so confirm the fee when you book. As of September 2025, its refill service did not start new medications, excluded controlled substances such as Adderall and Xanax, and could be used once in 12 months.5
Privacy
A coupon from either service needs no account.Under California’s privacy law, Optum Perks discloses that during the past 12 months it “sold” or “shared” personal information with ad and marketing vendors so they could target ads. That covers device identifiers, what you search for and which pages you open, and anything those pages and searches reveal about your health. RVO Health also shares that information with its other brands.6 We found no regulatory action against Optum Perks. In 2023, the Federal Trade Commission said GoodRx had shared users’ prescription and health condition data with companies including Facebook and Google. Under the resulting order, GoodRx is barred from sharing health data with third parties for advertising and agreed to a $1.5 million civil penalty, while denying wrongdoing.7 For more on how Optum Perks checks out on safety and data, see is Optum Perks is legit.
What users say about each
GoodRx has far more reviews. Its iPhone app holds 4.8 from 702,000 ratings and its Android app 4.8 from 336,000 reviews, against Optum Perks‘ 4.8 from 3,800 ratings on iPhone and 4.3 from 1,180 on Google Play.8 GoodRx has a Trustpilot rating of 3.8 from 4,051 reviews, and Optum Perks has no Trustpilot profile.Reviewers of both most often say the price at the counter does not always match the coupon. Optum Perks reviewers also mention app glitches, such as saved coupons that stop working. Recent negative GoodRx reviews center on subscriptions, including trouble canceling, while its free coupon draws praise.App reviewers report finding a lower price with each service for their own drugs. Pharmacists posting in online forums say discount card programs charge the pharmacy a fee per claim, which is why some pharmacies resist taking the cards.
When neither fits
