Professional Background

Sandra Calzadilla’s career began 18 years ago upon completing her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. During her final year of graduate school, she undertook a practicum at a sexual assault treatment center, working with victims and non-offending family members. Relocating to Massachusetts after graduation, she joined the trauma team at a community mental health agency in an underserved area, where she facilitated a safe environment for clients to process their traumas and regain control over their lives.

Through her work in trauma, Sandra realized the profound impact of untreated traumatic experiences on individuals’ confidence and overall well-being. Continuing her career in community mental health, she assisted clients of all ages in overcoming their traumas. After a successful year in private practice in Massachusetts, Sandra decided to bring her skills back to Florida, where she spent five years as an Assessment Specialist for a local community mental health agency. In this role, she assessed clients entering treatment, provided diagnoses, and set initial treatment goals before referring them to assigned therapists.

Seeking to broaden her expertise in administration, Sandra served as the Intake Manager for a local hospital’s Behavioral Health unit for four years. This experience deepened her understanding of the challenges faced by clients with severe mental health issues requiring emergency intervention and stabilization. While maintaining her focus on trauma, she continues to work with individuals and couples dealing with depression, anxiety, and various other symptoms, employing motivational interviewing techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. Sandra remains committed to ongoing personal and professional development through continued education, ensuring her ability to evolve in her practice.
