- Yes, Aetna covers Talkspace if your plan sponsor includes it. Talkspace is in-network with Aetna for online therapy and psychiatry, but not every Aetna plan opts in.
- Talkspace lists two average Aetna copays: $15 in the page copy and $10 in its stat box. Some members pay $0.
- If your employer offers Aetna Resources for Living, you may receive free Talkspace sessions through this EAP benefit.
Aetna lists Talkspace as a virtual mental health provider. Therapy is available for ages 13 and older, while medication management is for adults 18 and older. Talkspace offers live video, audio, chat, and messaging, along with couples therapy. Aetna says telehealth sessions cost the same as in-person office visits. However, each employer or sponsor decides whether to include Talkspace. Check your Aetna plan through Talkspace before booking.

Not every Aetna plan includes Talkspace
Talkspace says that not all Aetna plan sponsors have chosen to include the service. The sponsor is usually your employer or school. For example, Amazon’s Aetna Health Savings Plan lists Talkspace at 10% coinsurance after the deductible, while its Premium Plan has a $30 copay. Those rates only apply to Amazon’s plans. Use Talkspace’s eligibility check to confirm your own coverage.
What you’ll pay with Aetna
Talkspace lists an average Aetna copay of $15 for therapy or psychiatry in its page copy and $10 in its stat box. Both are averages. Some members pay $0, while those with high-deductible plans may need to meet the deductible before copays apply. Expect an average of about $10 to $15. However, your plan determines the actual cost.
Talkspace usually charges your copay after each completed session and then submits a claim to Aetna. Once Aetna processes the claim, you may owe an additional deductible, coinsurance, or copay amount. Charges can appear later if claims process slowly or several sessions are finalized together. Talkspace keeps a card on file for these charges and for late-cancellation or no-show fees. These fees may apply if you cancel or reschedule less than 24 hours before a live session. Talkspace also places a temporary $10 verification hold during signup, which disappears within three to seven business days without being charged.
Free Talkspace sessions through Aetna Resources for Living
Resources for Living (RFL) is Aetna’s employee assistance program. If your employer includes Talkspace, you may receive prepaid sessions at no cost. To use them:
- Ask RFL whether your employer’s program includes Talkspace and how many sessions you receive.
- Sign up through your organization’s Talkspace page and verify the benefit using your organization’s name or authorization code. A code cannot be reused after submission.
- When your sessions run out, ask your benefits provider whether more are available. You can also continue through Aetna insurance or self-pay.
Some employers and schools, including George Washington University and Whitworth University, offer Talkspace this way. Make sure you register through the EAP link and use the correct code. In a 2026 BBB complaint, one member’s sessions were billed to medical insurance instead of the EAP and applied to the member’s deductible. Talkspace said it could not change the billing afterward.1
How to verify your Aetna coverage
- Open Talkspace’s eligibility check and enter your insurance information. Talkspace verifies benefits in real time and will usually confirm whether your plan is in-network. Aetna Student Health members can check coverage through the student page before answering the matching questions and receiving a provider match.
- Check your Aetna member website or call the number on your ID card. Ask whether your plan covers behavioral health through telehealth.
- If you have a high-deductible plan, ask whether you must meet the deductible before your behavioral health copay applies.
If your Aetna plan doesn’t include Talkspace
You can still use Talkspace through self-pay. Messaging therapy starts at $69 per week. Video with messaging starts at $99 per week, and the plan that adds workshops starts at $109. Additional live sessions cost $65. Psychiatry costs $299 for the initial evaluation and $175 for each follow-up. Couples therapy starts at $436 per month. Teens use the standard therapy plans, with no separate teen pricing listed. Self-pay members can download superbills containing CPT and ICD-10 codes three days after each billing cycle ends by going to Account, then Payment and plan. Members who used insurance must request superbills through Support. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. Our Talkspace cost guide explains the self-pay options.
You can also use Aetna with other online services. Talkiatry accepts Aetna and focuses on psychiatry, with most patients paying about $30 per visit. Rula accepts Aetna among more than 120 plans, with a typical cost of $15 per session. Grow Therapy works with more than 125 plans, with sessions averaging $21. If your plan does not include Talkspace, it may still cover one of these services.
Talkspace vs an Aetna directory therapist
You can also use Aetna’s directory to find a local therapist or psychiatrist. The directory may give you more provider choice, in-person care, and a long-term local relationship. However, finding someone can be difficult. In a 2023 Senate Finance Committee study of 120 listings across 12 Medicare Advantage directories, one-third had inaccurate information, disconnected numbers, or calls that were never returned. Staff obtained an appointment in only 18% of attempts.2 The National Council for Mental Wellbeing reports an average wait of about six weeks for behavioral health services.3 The price is the same, since Aetna charges telehealth sessions like in-person visits. Talkspace may make it easier to find an available provider.
What Aetna members should watch for in billing
Talkspace has a 4.4 Trustpilot rating based on 2,373 reviews. Some reviewers report billing problems. In August 2026, one member reported being charged after leaving the platform, while another had repeated trouble applying an EAP code.4 Talkspace’s BBB profile shows 222 complaints closed within three years. One 2026 complaint involved an unexpected $126.80 psychiatric evaluation bill after the member’s screen showed unlimited sessions.1 Save your eligibility results, review each invoice, and report incorrect charges promptly. Our Talkspace review covers the rest of the service.
