Cigna added Talkspace to its behavioral health network in May 2020 for the 14 million people then covered by its employer plans, with the same cost-sharing as an in-person visit.1 By the end of 2025, Talkspace was available to more than 200 million people through insurers, EAPs, employers, and schools. Evernorth Behavioral Health manages behavioral benefits for Cigna members. Coverage varies by plan, so check your Cigna eligibility through Talkspace before booking.

As of August 31, 2026, based on Talkspace’s Cigna coverage page. Talkspace offers psychotherapy, CBT, and DBT through therapists and psychiatric providers licensed in all 50 states.
Some Cigna plans require a primary care referral before covering behavioral health services. Ask Cigna about referral requirements when checking your plan, especially if you have an HMO.
What you’ll pay with Cigna
Talkspace’s Cigna page lists an average copay of $20 for therapy or psychiatry, while its general insurance page lists $15 for Cigna members. Both are averages, and some members pay $0. Your plan determines the actual amount. Talkspace bills Cigna members in stages:
- Talkspace charges your copay shortly after each session.
- You may receive another bill after Cigna processes the claim. This can include deductible or coinsurance amounts. Talkspace says it cannot confirm your final cost until the claim is processed.
- High-deductible plans apply the deductible first. You may pay more per session until meeting it.
Talkspace says virtual visits have the same member costs as in-person care.
Free Talkspace sessions through the Cigna EAP
If your employer’s Cigna EAP includes Talkspace, you can receive counseling sessions at no cost before using your medical plan. The EAP has a separate signup process:
- Call Cigna at 877-622-4327 or log in to myCigna.com. The EAP coverage page is under Emotional Health.
- Register at talkspace.com/EAPCigna using your EAP code. Do not use the standard Talkspace signup. If you do not have a code, the EAP coverage check also accepts your organization’s name.
- Your employer determines the number of free sessions. One published employer plan includes five sessions per issue each year. EAP sessions cover counseling but not medication prescribing.
- After using your EAP sessions, you can continue through your Cigna medical benefits.
Make sure you use the EAP signup link and code. A 2026 BBB complaint described a member whose sessions were charged to medical insurance instead of the EAP, causing deductible charges. Talkspace said it could not change the billing afterward.2
How to verify your Cigna coverage
- Open Talkspace’s eligibility check. Choose whether you are using insurance or an EAP code. You do not need to enter payment information to check.
- Select therapy or psychiatry, choose Cigna, and enter your full Member ID, including any prefix or suffix. Talkspace will confirm your eligibility and cost share.
- You can also call the number on your Cigna card or check myCigna.com. Ask about your copay and deductible for outpatient behavioral telehealth.
- If you have a high-deductible plan, ask whether you must meet the deductible before your behavioral health copay begins.
If your Cigna plan doesn’t cover Talkspace
You can use another service that accepts Cigna or pay for Talkspace yourself.
Use another in-network service. Talkiatry accepts Cigna and focuses on psychiatry. Most patients pay about $30 per visit. It can also prescribe controlled substances where state law permits, which Talkspace does not do. Rula accepts Cigna among more than 120 plans, with a typical cost of $15 per session. Grow Therapy works with more than 125 plans, with sessions averaging $21.
Pay for Talkspace yourself. Messaging therapy costs $69 per week. Therapy with video costs $99 per week, and adding workshops raises the price to $109. A psychiatry evaluation costs $299, with follow-ups costing $175. Self-pay members can download superbills containing CPT and ICD-10 codes and submit them to Cigna for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Talkspace does not guarantee reimbursement. Our Talkspace cost guide explains each plan.
Talkspace vs a Cigna directory therapist
You can also find a therapist through Cigna’s provider directory. In a 2023 Senate Finance Committee study, researchers called 120 mental health providers listed across 12 Medicare Advantage directories. One-third of the listings were inaccurate, had disconnected numbers, or led to calls that were not returned. Researchers obtained an appointment in 18% of attempts.3 Talkspace says Cigna members reach a therapist within a few days on average, although this is Talkspace’s own measurement.
Cigna’s directory gives you access to in-person sessions and more control over which provider you choose. It may be a better option if you want a local therapist that can continue seeing you for years. Talkspace may be easier if your priority is starting covered care quickly.
What Cigna members should expect from Talkspace billing
Talkspace has a 4.4 Trustpilot rating based on 2,373 reviews. Some August 2026 reviews describe charges continuing after cancellation and EAP codes failing to apply.4 Its BBB profile has an A+ rating and 222 complaints closed within three years. Several involve insurance billing, including one member whose plan showed unlimited sessions but later received a $126.80 charge.2 Save your eligibility results and review each invoice after Cigna processes the claim. Question any incorrect charge immediately. Our Talkspace review covers the rest of the service.
