At a glance
  • Yes. Grow Therapy bills insurance directly and says it accepts more than 100 plans. Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare appear in its checker for every state. Blue Cross Blue Shield plans appear in 31 states.
  • Medicare Advantage plans appear in 34 states, while dedicated Medicaid plans appear in 10. Grow does not accept TRICARE. Coverage varies by state and provider, so check the estimator for your state.
  • Most insured clients pay about $21 per session, usually within a range of $0 to $50. Grow bills insurers $180 to $350 per session. If you have not met your deductible, you will owe the amount your insurer allows for the session. This amount can exceed $100.

Grow Therapy lets you choose an independent therapist or prescriber and book directly through the platform. Grow then bills your insurer after each session. There is no subscription, and providers are available in all 50 states.

The accepted-plan list changes based on your state. As of September 2026, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare appeared in every state’s list. Medicare and Medicaid coverage varied by state. Your deductible can also have a large effect on what you pay. Look up your plan in Grow’s directory to see which providers in your state accept it.

What insurance does Grow Therapy accept?

Grow does not have one national “insurance we accept” page. Its accepted plans are listed in the cost estimator, and the options change when you select a state. Grow told us this state toggle plus insurance dropdown is its authoritative, up-to-date plan list (confirmed September 8, 2026). On September 5, 2026, the estimator listed between 31 plans in New Hampshire and 75 plans in California. Texas had 46 plans, Florida had 52, and New York had 48.

Plan type Where it appears in Grow’s checker What you pay
Aetna, including Aetna Medicare and TPA plans All 50 states plus DC Your copay or coinsurance, about $21 on average
Cigna and Evernorth, including EAP All 50 states plus DC Your copay or coinsurance, about $21 on average
UnitedHealthcare and Optum, including Oxford, UMR, and Surest All 50 states plus DC Your copay or coinsurance, about $21 on average
Blue Cross Blue Shield family 31 states, listed under the regional entity Your copay or coinsurance, about $21 on average
Kaiser Permanente DC, Georgia, Maryland, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington, but not California Your copay or coinsurance; referral rules vary by region
Humana Accepted, states vary (confirmed by Grow, September 8, 2026) Your plan’s copay or coinsurance
Oscar Accepted, states vary (confirmed by Grow, September 8, 2026) Your plan’s copay or coinsurance
Medicare Advantage from Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and regional Blues 34 states Your plan’s copay or coinsurance
Original Medicare Florida only in the checker on September 5, 2026; Grow says it accepts Medicare and Medicare Advantage, with coverage varying by state (confirmed September 8, 2026) Medicare cost share
Medicaid and managed Medicaid 10 states Usually $0
TRICARE No states Grow cannot bill it
No insurance or a plan Grow does not list Any state The provider’s self-pay rate, typically $75 to $250 or more

These counts come from Grow Therapy’s cost estimator, which we checked across all 50 states and DC on September 5, 2026. Grow describes its total differently across its website. One page says it accepts “over 125+” plans, while another says “more than 100.”

Insurance acceptance also depends on the provider you choose. Grow’s help center says it will not bill your insurance for sessions with a provider who does not accept your plan. You will pay that provider’s self-pay rate instead. The rate appears on the provider’s profile before you book.

How do you check whether Grow accepts your plan?

Grow’s help center provides steps for verifying coverage. Complete them before your first appointment. The estimator is only an estimate, and your final bill may be different.

  1. Gather your full legal name, date of birth, and member ID.
  2. Open Grow’s cost estimator. Choose your state and select your plan from the dropdown. If the plan is not listed for your state, Grow cannot bill it.
  3. Call the member services number on your insurance card. Ask whether Grow Therapy is in network and whether you need preauthorization. Confirm your copay, deductible status, and session limit. Ask about Grow Therapy as a facility because it bills under a group NPI instead of the individual clinician’s name. The facility details are different in California than in every other state.
  4. Record the representative’s name, the date of the call, and the answers you receive.
  5. If Grow is in network, book your appointment. If it is out of network, you can pay the self-pay rate and request a superbill through the client portal.

Grow’s cost estimator asks for personal information. If you want to browse first, use the Find a therapist filter. You can select your state and insurance plan to see matching providers without entering personal details.

How much does Grow Therapy cost with insurance?

Grow’s homepage says sessions cost an average of $21 with insurance. Its insurance guide gives a typical range of $0 to $50. Trustpilot reviewers reported therapy copays of $10 and $20 in 2026. A HelpGuide reviewer paid a $15 copay in August 2026.

Grow submits each session to the insurer at a charge rate that is usually between $180 and $350. The insurer applies its contracted rate and determines your share. If your plan uses copays, you pay the copay. If you have a high-deductible plan and have not met the deductible, you owe the insurer’s allowed amount. That amount can be over $100.

Grow usually charges insured clients three to four weeks after an appointment, once the claim has been processed. You must keep a payment card on file. Your insurer’s explanation of benefits usually arrives around the same time. This can look like a bill, but Grow’s FAQ explains that it is not a bill.

No-show and late-cancellation fees are separate. Each provider sets their own fees, up to $200, and insurance does not cover them. Grow defines a no-show as failing to join within 15 minutes of the appointment time. A cancellation is late if you provide less than 24 hours’ notice. You must dispute a fee within 30 days.

Does Grow Therapy take Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Yes, in 31 states. Blue Cross Blue Shield is a group of regional companies, so the plan name depends on where you live.

Anthem appears in 19 states, including Georgia, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. Florida Blue covers Florida. California lists Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and Blue Shield of California’s Medi-Cal and Medicare plans. Pennsylvania lists Capital Blue Cross, Highmark, and Independence Blue Cross. Washington lists Premera and Regence. New Jersey lists Horizon. Maryland and DC list CareFirst.

Twenty states have no BCBS entity in Grow’s checker, including Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. Members in those states can use their BCBS plan’s directory to look for another provider.

Does Grow Therapy take Aetna?

Yes. Every state’s checker lists standard Aetna and Aetna Medicare plans.

Most states also list Aetna plans administered by third parties, including Allied Benefits, Lucent Health, Moda, and WebTPA. If your card says Aetna, you will probably find a matching option in the checker. Grow also publishes city-level directory pages for Aetna Medicare, including one for Houston.

Does Grow Therapy take Medicare?

Grow accepts Medicare Advantage plans in 34 states. Its checker includes plans from Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and regional Blue Cross Blue Shield companies. A plain Original Medicare option appeared only in Florida. Grow told us it accepts Medicare and Medicare Advantage, with coverage varying by state (confirmed September 8, 2026).

Seventeen states had no Medicare-branded option: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Grow’s Medicare page says it connects clients with providers who accept Medicare but does not provide further details. If you have Medicare Advantage, check the estimator for your state. Outside Florida, the checker does not list Original Medicare. Grow also does not publish a state list for Original Medicare, so ask the provider whether they bill it directly.

Does Grow Therapy take Medicaid?

Yes, in 10 states. Grow’s Medicaid page says it has qualified therapists who accept Medicaid but does not provide a state list.

On September 5, 2026, dedicated Medicaid plans appeared in:

  • California, including L.A. Care and county Medi-Cal plans
  • Connecticut
  • Florida, through UnitedHealthcare Medicaid
  • Georgia, through Peach State Health Plan
  • Hawaii, through UnitedHealthcare Medicaid
  • Indiana, through Managed Health Services
  • Minnesota
  • Ohio, through Buckeye Health Plan
  • Texas, through UnitedHealthcare Medicaid
  • Virginia, through Kaiser Medicaid

UnitedHealthcare Medicaid is the most common option. It appears in six of the 10 states: Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.

Humana and UnitedHealthcare dual Medicare-Medicaid plans appear in about 30 states. These are Medicare Advantage products for people enrolled in both programs, not Medicaid-only plans.

Users who switched from commercial insurance to Medicaid report receiving much broader coverage after the change took effect. Some also report that Grow would not let them book again until they paid a remaining balance from the old plan.

Does Grow Therapy take TRICARE?

No. On September 5, 2026, TRICARE did not appear in Grow’s checker for any of the 50 states or DC. It was also absent from the 165-plan filter list, and Grow’s help center had no articles for the term.

The only reference to TRICARE on Grow’s website is an exclusion. TRICARE members do not qualify for provider charity care. A third-party listing site says Grow accepts TRICARE and lists estimated copays, but Grow’s own website does not support that claim.

Grow does accept VA community care authorizations from a VA Medical Center. The authorization comes with a 45-day expiration notice, and the provider submits the renewal. VA community care and TRICARE are different programs.

Grow’s comparison page lists TRICARE among the plans accepted by Talkspace. Our Talkspace review explains how that platform works.

How does Grow compare with your insurer’s directory?

The traditional approach is to search your insurer’s directory and call providers until you find one who is available. This can take time.

A 2023 Senate Finance Committee secret-shopper study called 120 mental health providers across 12 Medicare Advantage directories. The callers obtained an appointment in 18% of attempts.1 In 2025, the New York Attorney General’s office checked nearly 400 mental health listings and found that 86% were ghost entries.2 A June 2025 HHS Office of Inspector General survey found that 45% of behavioral health providers were unavailable to new Medicare or Medicaid patients. About one-quarter of the available providers reported waits longer than 30 days.3

Grow lets you book directly from a provider’s profile. Its homepage includes state-specific sections for providers who are available that week. The cost appears before you commit, and you can switch providers through the platform. Users frequently say that the first match is not always right but that changing providers is easy.

A clinician found through your insurer’s directory bills under their own name, which avoids confusion about Grow’s group NPI. That route may also make it easier to maintain a long-term relationship with one clinician.

Grow is a marketplace of independent providers. Users have reported a prescriber and a therapist becoming unreachable for a month after their insurance lapsed. Your insurer’s directory may be a better fit if long-term continuity with one clinician is your priority.

What do users say about Grow’s billing?

Grow has a 4.7 TrustScore based on 8,328 Trustpilot reviews. Eighty-seven percent are five-star reviews. Grow also has BBB accreditation and an A+ rating. The BBB lists 200 complaints during the past three years, including 66 closed within the past 12 months.

Positive reviews mention affordability and quick access. A September 2026 reviewer said Grow accepted their insurance and charged a minimal copay. Another reviewer in August 2026 said Grow continued accommodating them after the expected insurance coverage turned out not to apply.

Complaints usually involve a difference between the original estimate and the final charge. A June 2026 BBB complainant expected to pay $25 per session based on the estimator but was charged about $140. A May 2026 complainant learned that insurance would not cover the sessions and owed $300 out of pocket.

No-show and late-cancellation charges appear in several other complaints. One reviewer with a $20 copay was charged $80 for canceling on the same day. Another received a $100 fee after the provider failed to attend the appointment.

The most common complaint is that Grow’s initial insurance verification was incorrect, leading to an unexpected balance later. Users repeatedly recommend calling the insurer and confirming that the specific therapist’s NPI is in network before the first session. Because Grow bills under a group NPI, ask about Grow Therapy as the facility as well as the individual clinician.

What does Grow Therapy cost without insurance?

Grow charges the provider’s self-pay rate if your plan is not listed or the provider does not accept it. Grow’s insurance guide gives a typical range of $75 to $250 or more per session.

Our Grow Therapy review found therapy rates of $75 to $150 or more per session. Medication management cost $150 to $300 or more. Grow charges self-pay clients two to three days after the provider submits the invoice.

Therapy sessions qualify as HSA and FSA expenses. You can request a superbill through the client portal after paying for a session. The superbill includes the provider’s NPI, license, tax ID, and billing codes. You can use it to request out-of-network reimbursement, although approval is not guaranteed. Grow’s help center says not to submit a superbill when Grow is already in network with your plan.

Individual providers may offer charity care to self-pay clients whose income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty level. This assistance is only for people with no insurance. Anyone with Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or VA coverage is excluded.

Our Grow Therapy vs BetterHelp comparison explains how Grow’s per-session billing compares with BetterHelp’s flat subscription.

Why does my insurer’s statement show a much higher amount than my copay?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

The statement is probably an explanation of benefits, not a bill. Grow submits claims for $180 to $350, and the EOB shows that full charge before the plan’s contracted rate is applied. Your actual responsibility is the copay, coinsurance, or deductible amount shown as your share.

What if my plan is not listed for my state?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Grow cannot bill a plan that is not listed for your state. You can pay the provider’s self-pay rate and request a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. You can also use your insurer’s directory to find another provider.
