Getting Started
There is a 15-minute consultation with a Joon Care Coordinator available for free which can help assess your needs and match you with a Joon therapist. During this call, you will be asked general health questions and help you understand your (or your child’s) areas of concern. Therapists with Joon can help teens and young adults manage general anxiety, body image, disordered eating, depression, gender/sexual identity, and more.
Therapy
Treatment plans with Joon Care are developed with your therapist and are estimated to last approximately 16-weeks in order to allow enough time for evidence-based practice to have an adequate effect on presenting symptoms. In addition to the 50-minute therapy sessions, the Joon Care mobile app is available on Apple products and provides a resource therapists recommend for use between sessions. Your therapist can send you skills and techniques to practice, as well as having access to additional wellness resources to explore.
According to Joon, if you’re under the age of 18, you will need a parent or guardian’s consent to receive treatment. There may be some exceptions to this that you can explore during your free consultation. It is also important to note that the age of consent varies state to state. The role of a parent/guardian will include a brief check-in and provide a general overview of the skills you and your therapist have been working on without providing any specific details.
Cost & Insurance
Joon Care costs $150 per therapy session after an initial $200 visit. Its services are covered by several insurance providers, including: Aetna, AmeriHealth Pennsylvania, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Carelon, ComPsych, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Pennsylvania and Delaware, Independence Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente Washington, Magellan, Optum, Premera Blue Cross and Regence Blue Shield.
Who Does Joon Care Serve?
Joon Care is a great online therapy platform for teens and young adults seeking clearly outlined and specialized treatment. It could also be helpful for college students experiencing high-stress levels and students requiring more accountability in between therapy sessions to track their progress.
Joon Care User Reviews
The Joon Care app is only available in the Apple App Store and has a 4.7 out of 5-star rating from 13 reviews. There are additional reviews and testimonials available on Joon Care’s website, but generally, these are the most positive experiences and do not include the negatives.
Reviews from the Apple App Store | 4.7 out of 5 stars | 13 reviews
One positive review on the Apple App Store mentions being impressed with the clinical team, stating that Joon helped them develop excellent coping skills.
Negative reviews don’t exist on the Apple App Store, other than a couple of one-star ratings but with no commentary.
Alternatives & Competitors
Joon Care offers a lot of support for teens and young adults but compared to its competitors, it may not be the most affordable or accessible option. Teen Counseling could be a decent option for those looking for cash-pay therapy, and Brightside Health is a great choice for those looking for therapy, medication, or a bundled combination of the two.
Teen Counseling - Best for Cash-Pay Therapy
Joon Care and Teen Counseling are both subscription-based online therapy options for teens. While Joon Care is offered to teens and young adults ages 13–26, Teen Counseling is only available to teens ages 13–18. Joon Care is also significantly more expensive than Teen Counseling, which costs $280–$400 monthly (advertised at $70–$100 weekly). However, if you have an in-network insurance plan, Joon Care may be the more cost-effective option.

Pros & Cons
- Lots of providers available
- Quick and easy sign-up
- Text messaging between sessions
- No insurance coverage
- No medication management
Brightside Health - Best for Bundled Medication + Therapy
Brightside Health differs from Joon Care in that it offers both medication management and therapy on the platform. It works from a monthly subscription model, so users pay a flat fee per month instead of paying per-session. A therapy-only plan costs $299 monthly and insurance is $95 monthly; however, costs could be much lower for those with insurance coverage—Brightside Health is in-network with many insurance providers. For those established with a psychiatric prescriber on the platform, there may be an option to move to a $45 monthly medication management plan.

Pros & Cons
- Broad insurance coverage
- Same-day appointments often available
- Teen Care not available nationwide (in 38 states so far)
- Cash-pay may be expensive for some
