- Practice Better has five plans: Sprout is free for up to 3 clients, Starter costs $35 per month, Professional $69, Plus $99, and Team $155. Annual billing lowers Starter to $25, Professional to $62, and Plus to $89 per month. Team remains $155.
- Client limits are 3 on Sprout, 10 on Starter, 300 on Professional, and unlimited on Plus and Team.
- Add-ons cost extra. Card processing is 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction. ePrescribe costs $49 per month with a $99 onboarding fee. Submitting insurance claims requires a separate Claim.MD subscription starting at $30 per month.
Practice Better is practice-management software for nutritionists, dietitians, health coaches, and other allied health professionals. It includes scheduling, charting, a client portal, telehealth, programs, and invoicing.
Pricing is per practitioner. You can only add clinicians on the Team plan. All prices below are in US dollars and exclude sales tax. Start a free trial if you want to test the platform. A credit card is required.

What does each Practice Better plan cost?
| Plan | Monthly | Annual billing, per month | Client limit | Storage | Practitioners |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout | Free | Free | 3 | Not listed | Not listed |
| Starter | $35 | $25 | 10 | 1 GB | 1 |

| Plus | $99 | $89 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 1 |
| Team | $155 | $155 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 2, then $50 each |
Prices are from Practice Better’s pricing page and were checked on September 13, 2026. Practice Better also calls some of these plans Launch, Grow, and Scale on other pages.
The annual discount differs by tier, even though the pricing page says you can save up to 10%. Professional and Plus are discounted by 10%, matching Practice Better’s help center. Starter drops from $35 to $25 per month, which is a discount of about 29%.
Team costs $155 per month whether you pay monthly or annually. The annual plan does not provide a cash discount. Instead, it includes free migration valued at $500.
Annual billing is also limited. Practice Better describes it as a limited-time beta for new customers and trial users converting to a paid plan. Existing monthly subscribers do not see the option in the app and must contact Support.
What does each tier include?
Every paid tier includes:
- Scheduling
- One-to-one telehealth video
- Integrated billing and payments
- Secure messaging
- A client portal
- Forms and note templates
- More than 20 integrations
The client mobile app and HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR compliance are included on every tier, including the free Sprout plan. All tiers also include unlimited invoices and the ability to create superbills without an extra fee.
Professional adds group scheduling and messaging, fixed-date programs, PDF branding, deposits, payment plans, Zapier, and enhanced search.
Plus adds evergreen and self-paced programs, portal and email branding, a personalized URL, 750 SMS reminders per month, 10,000 broadcast messages, a dedicated fax number, 3 administrator licenses, and done-for-you program templates.
Team adds custom roles and permissions, team scheduling, a shared calendar, team chat, team reporting, managed billing, 2,000 SMS reminders, 30,000 broadcast messages, unlimited administrator licenses, and personalized onboarding.
Paid credits and add-ons are only available on Professional, Plus, and Team. Starter subscribers cannot buy SMS credits, fax credits, AI charting, or additional storage at any price.
Is the Sprout plan free?
Yes. Sprout is permanently free and supports up to 3 clients. It includes scheduling, payment processing, charting, session notes, templates, mobile apps, and HIPAA compliance.
Practice Better positions Sprout for students and recent graduates. It does not offer a student discount on its paid plans.
How does the free trial work?
The trial lasts 14 days on Starter, Professional, and Plus. Team has a 30-day trial.
You must provide a credit card when the trial starts. Practice Better charges the card when the trial ends based on the tier you selected most recently. You can move between tiers as often as you want during the trial.
Add-ons are free during the trial. Any add-on still attached to the account when the trial ends begins billing at that time.
Trials are only available to new users. Upgrading an existing account does not qualify you for another trial. A canceled trial account cannot be reactivated. Practice Better recommends downgrading to Sprout instead of canceling during the trial.
What add-ons and additional fees does Practice Better charge?
Payment processing
Practice Better Payments uses Stripe. US processing rates are:
- 2.9% plus $0.30 for online card, Google Pay, or Apple Pay transactions
- 0.80% for ACH bank debits
- 2.7% plus $0.05 for in-person payments through the WisePOS E terminal
A practice processing $5,000 per month through 40 card transactions would pay about $157 in fees. That is more than the $99 Plus subscription.
ACH costs 0.80%, compared with 2.9% plus $0.30 for cards. Using ACH when clients agree to it has the largest effect on processing costs.
AI charting
The AI Charting Assistant has three monthly tiers per practitioner:
- $10 for 20 hours
- $20 for 60 hours
- $40 for 120 hours
Overage costs $0.02 per minute.
This pricing took effect on September 9, 2026, replacing a per-minute credit system. Existing credit users can keep the old pricing through October 31, 2026. Anyone who has not selected a tier by that date will lose access on November 1 until they choose one.
Prescribing
ePrescribe costs $49 per month for each prescribing practitioner, plus a one-time $99 onboarding fee. Controlled-substance prescribing is included without another monthly charge.
PDMP access costs an additional $5 per month and has its own one-time onboarding fee of $399. A prescriber adding both services pays $54 per month after $498 in combined onboarding fees.
Messaging and fax
SMS reminders cost $0.05 each. Plus includes 750 per month, and Team includes 2,000. Professional includes no SMS allowance but allows practitioners to purchase credits. Starter subscribers cannot buy them.
Faxes cost $0.10 per page. Plus includes 150 pages per month, and Team includes 300.
Storage
Additional storage costs $1 per GB each month. Professional users can add up to 30 GB. Plus and Team include unlimited storage.
Insurance claims
You can create superbills and CMS-style insurance claims inside Practice Better without paying an additional fee. Submitting and managing those claims requires Claim.MD, the platform’s only integrated clearinghouse.
Claim.MD bills separately and offers three options:
- $30 per month for pay-per-use billing at $0.30 per claim
- $60 per month with 100 claims included
- $120 per month for unlimited claims
A practitioner using Professional and the least expensive Claim.MD option pays at least $99 per month. Using Plus with unlimited Claim.MD claims costs $219.
A solo practitioner on Professional who adds entry-level AI charting and uses about 100 SMS reminders each month pays approximately $84 instead of the advertised $69.
A solo prescriber using Plus, ePrescribe, PDMP access, and mid-tier AI charting pays $173 per month. That comes after $498 in one-time onboarding fees.
How much did Practice Better raise its prices in 2025?
Practice Better increased the price of every paid tier on July 9, 2025:
| Plan | Old price | New price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25 | $35 | 40% |
| Professional | $59 | $69 | 16.9% |
| Plus | $89 | $99 | 11.2% |
| Team | $145 | $155 | 6.9% |
The additional-practitioner fee increased from $35 to $50 on July 17, 2025, one week later. That was a 42.9% increase.
Existing customers kept their previous prices until October 9, 2025. Practice Better also upgraded some plan features without an additional charge. Plus increased from 1 free administrator to 3 and from 10 GB to unlimited storage. Team increased from 2 free administrators to unlimited and from 15 GB to unlimited storage.
Practice Better still honors pricing from before July 22, 2019 as long as the subscriber makes no changes. These legacy plans are billed in Canadian dollars. Any subscription change ends the legacy rate. This includes upgrading, downgrading, or adding an add-on.
The same rule applies to customers who still have prices from before the July 2025 increase.
What happens if you cancel or downgrade?
Practice Better does not require a contract, and you can cancel at any time. Your access continues through the end of the current billing period.
You must cancel through a web browser. Cancellation is not available in the mobile app.
Refunds are discretionary. Practice Better’s terms say requests may be reviewed individually and approved at the company’s sole discretion. Its help center says it cannot provide refunds for free-trial charges. It recommends canceling or downgrading to Sprout before the trial expires.
Canceling an annual plan does not produce an automatic refund. Active add-ons are canceled with the subscription. Practice Better settles any remaining usage charges, such as AI charting fees, on the final day.
You can downgrade at any time, but your client count must meet the new plan’s limit first. To move to Starter, for example, you must reduce your account to fewer than 10 clients. Downgrading an annual subscription creates a prorated account credit rather than a refund.
Export your information before closing the account. Clients lose portal access on the same day you do. You must request a bulk export of client records and documents by email.
Practice Better retains client data for 30 days after an account closes and then deletes it. Database backups are kept for another 30 days.
How does Practice Better compare with other platforms?
Practice Better vs. SimplePractice
SimplePractice is the better-known competitor. Its Starter plan costs $49 per month, compared with $35 for Practice Better. Practice Better limits Starter to 10 clients, while SimplePractice does not publish a client limit.
Both companies charge $99 for their highest solo tier. Both also charge $49 per month for ePrescribe. Practice Better’s onboarding fee is $99, compared with $89 at SimplePractice.
Practice Better charges $50 for each additional practitioner. SimplePractice charges $74. A five-practitioner group would pay $305 per month through Practice Better and $395 through SimplePractice.
SimplePractice was offering 50% off for three months when checked. Its trial lasts 30 days, compared with 14 days for Practice Better. Practice Better requires a credit card to begin the trial.
Practice Better vs. Healthie
Healthie is the closest comparison designed specifically for nutrition practices. Its Core plan costs $19.99 per month, and Essentials costs $49.99. Both are less expensive than Practice Better’s entry-level paid plans.
Healthie limits Core to 10 clients and Essentials to 250. Additional team members cost $50 per clinician, matching Practice Better.
Practice Better is less expensive at the highest solo tier. Plus costs $99 per month, compared with $129.99 for Healthie Plus. Healthie’s 14-day trial does not require a credit card.
For a broader comparison of the software itself, see our Practice Better review, SimplePractice review, and roundup of SimplePractice alternatives.
Which Practice Better plan is best for a solo practitioner?
Professional at $69 per month is the best fit for most solo practitioners.
Starter costs $35, but its 10-client limit is the most common complaint in practitioner reviews. Some reviewers describe passing 10 clients and being moved to Professional, which roughly tripled the monthly bill even though their caseload was still in the teens.
Starter also prevents subscribers from buying SMS credits, fax credits, AI charting, or additional storage.
Professional supports up to 300 clients and unlocks the add-ons. Consider moving to Plus at $99 when unlimited storage, 750 monthly SMS reminders, and a dedicated fax number are worth the extra $30. Plus may also be worth it if you need portal branding, email branding, or evergreen programs.
Team starts at $155 and includes two practitioners. Each additional practitioner costs $50 per month. It is the only plan that allows you to add clinicians.
Practice Better has a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Capterra based on 97 reviews, last updated August 26, 2026. It has a 3.8 out of 5 Trustpilot rating based on 73 reviews as of September 13, 2026.
Another recurring cost complaint is that insurance claim submission requires a separate clearinghouse subscription. Reviewers generally describe the platform as a good value but still a sizable investment. Some would prefer to have claim submission included with a higher tier.
Try Practice Better free for 14 days. The trial requires a card and charges the tier you selected most recently. Downgrade to Sprout before day 14 if you decide not to continue.
Does Practice Better offer discounts?
Annual billing is the only published subscription discount.
Starter has the largest annual discount. It drops from $35 to $25 per month, saving about 29%. Practice Better does not publish a promotional code, student discount, or seasonal sale.
Other ways to reduce costs include:
- Stay on the free Sprout plan while you have no more than 3 clients.
- Stay on Professional until you exceed 300 clients instead of paying for unlimited capacity you do not need.
- Skip the AI add-on unless it saves enough charting time to justify the cost.
- Use ACH payments at 0.80% when clients agree to them instead of cards at 2.9% plus $0.30.
Processing $5,000 per month would cost approximately $40 through ACH, compared with about $157 using 40 card transactions.
The other savings are the free trial, the permanent Sprout plan, and free migration with an annual Team subscription.
Start a free trial with Practice Better after choosing a tier. There is no promotional code to wait for. Your main ways to save are selecting the right tier and choosing how clients pay.
