At a glance
  • National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded healthcare system of the United Kingdom.
  • NHS staff and key workers can receive 50% off the first month, per NHS Staff Benefits and Kii at our September 17, 2026 check, after free employment verification.
  • Everyone else can use this link to apply 20% off your first month automatically. There is no code to type.
  • The NHS itself does not fund BetterHelp. NHS Talking Therapies is free and you can self-refer without seeing a GP.

BetterHelp is a private online therapy subscription where you are matched with a therapist, and have one live session a week, plus messaging. BetterHelp’s published UK price range is £45 to £70 a week, billed as a monthly charge. It has no NHS partnership, so there is nothing NHS-related on betterhelp.com itself.  The NHS discounts are listed on the staff-benefit platforms that verify NHS employment. Those platforms currently list a bigger first-month discount than any public code. Alternatively to BetterHelp, the NHS’s own free route for therapy is NHS Talking Therapies.

ChoosingTherapy.com may earn a commission from the companies whose services are linked on this page.

Kii’s offer is “only available to users who have never received therapy with BetterHelp,” so returning subscribers do not qualify. These platform offers also rotate; the listings above were live on September 17, 2026, so check the platform page before you sign up.

The standing 20% offer for everyone else

BetterHelp’s public site doesn’t carry any discount codes at all. Its standing promotion runs through referral links instead. Our link applies 20% off your first month automatically and we verified it works on September 17, 2026. The link lands on the signup flow with the 20% first-month discount already attached, no need to enter a code. On BetterHelp’s UK cost range, that first-month saving is worth roughly £36 to £56.

To use it:

  1. Open the tracked link and the 20% discount is applied automatically.
  2. Complete the matching questionnaire and create your account.
  3. Check the first-month price shown before you pay; the discount is already in it, so there is no code field to fill.

For a verified NHS worker, the 50% platform offers beat this link. The 20% route is for everyone else. No source we could find addresses combining first-month offers with financial aid, so treat them as either/or.

Financial aid may offer the most savings

BetterHelp offers income-based financial aid. In its own words it offers aid “depending on income and employment status, which can make therapy significantly more affordable in some cases.” You apply during signup by selecting the affordability option, which opens a short form about income and employment. Approvals are reported to reduce prices for about three months at a time, with reapplication required every three months.1 BetterHelp doesn’t publish fixed percentages, and we could not verify the exact reduction UK applicants receive, so apply and see the number before judging it. For anyone on a tight budget long-term, aid usually matters more than a first-month code, because it applies to every month.

What the NHS gives you for free

NHS Talking Therapies is free and treats anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, PTSD, and body dysmorphic disorder, among other conditions. Talking Therapies also takes self-referrals with no GP appointment needed. You are only required to complete GP registration and be 18 or over (16+ in some areas). Sessions run in person, by video or phone, or as an online course.2 NHS staff qualify like anyone else.

The tradeoff UK users describe is waiting. One r/OnlineTherapyUK user said of NHS online therapy, “I was pretty sick about waiting weeks to get a time slot and if I had to reschedule there was often no time slot available for a while.” One r/MentalHealthUK user comparing BetterHelp with local private therapy reported clinic waits of about three weeks. A BetterHelp user in r/OnlineTherapyUK was “quite happy with their online therapy. I had a UK based therapist.”

Codes that don’t work

Coupon aggregators auto-generate “BetterHelp NHS discount” pages with rotating month names and percentages that don’t appear anywhere on BetterHelp’s site.  Reddit carries planted posts claiming free-trial codes (“2 weeks for free”) that BetterHelp does not corroborate. If a code is not issued by a verification platform after an employment check, or applied automatically by a referral link, don’t expect it to work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the NHS pay for BetterHelp?

No. We found no NHS funding, referral, or partnership arrangement, and BetterHelp is a private self-pay subscription. The NHS’s own free offer is NHS Talking Therapies, which you can self-refer into.

How much is BetterHelp in the UK?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

£45 to £70 per week by BetterHelp’s published UK range, billed monthly. The price is set by location, patient preferences, and therapist availability. Some UK reviewers report paying up to about £80 a week. The subscription includes a weekly live session, messaging, support groups, and journaling.

How do NHS staff get 50% off BetterHelp?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Through NHS staff-benefit platforms not BetterHelp itself. NHS Staff Benefits and Kii both listed 50% off the first month at our September 2026 check, after free registration and employment verification. Blue Light Card runs an offer too, with the amount shown after login.

Is there a BetterHelp NHS discount code I can just type in?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

No public code exists. The platform offers issue verification-gated codes, and referral links like ours apply their discount automatically. Typed codes from coupon sites are the ones that fail.

Does BetterHelp have UK therapists?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Yes. UK Reddit users report being matched with UK-based therapists, and BetterHelp prices in GBP for UK visitors. Our BetterHelp discount guide covers the offers that apply outside the UK, and our BetterHelp financial aid guide covers the aid application.

Can I use BetterHelp while waiting for NHS therapy?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Nothing prevents it as they are separate services, and BetterHelp does not need a referral or NHS approval. The subscription bills a month at a time, so you can weigh it again once your NHS sessions start.
