The Lasting app is a self-guided counseling tool designed for couples looking to improve their communication skills. While it is marketed as a couples counseling app, it does not provide access to licensed therapists via messaging, phone, or video—either asynchronously or in real-time. Instead, ir provides valuable tools and communciation techniques that couples can work through at their own pace.

One of the app’s key features is its structured learning modules, dubbed “Series,” that guide couples through important topics such as communication, intimacy, parenting, and forgiveness. Additionally, the app offers therapist-led workshops, which can be attended alone or with a partner, either live-streamed or via pre-recorded video.

Overall, the Lasting app is an engaging and user-friendly resource for couples seeking to strengthen their relationship. The activities are easy to complete, interactive, and often well worth the time. While the live workshops cover insightful topics, they do not replace the depth of care provided by a licensed therapist. Although the subscription cost may feel high for a single month, the seven-day free trial means you can explore before deciding to buy. If you and your partner are looking for more traditional couples therapy or coaching options, Talkspace for Couples is our top pick. Getting Started

To get started with the Lasting App, both partners need to download it on their devices. Inviting a partner is simple—just text them with an invite code. After creating an account, couples begin with an assessment to generate a personalized plan. Once completed, the app suggests focus areas like “Communication” and “Depression.” Both partners must complete the assessment to compare results and agree on a shared plan of action.

Series and Sessions

After signing up and completing the initial assessment, couples can dive into a personalized “Series” tailored to their relationship needs. For example, my partner and I were recommended “Foundations,” “Depression,” “Body Image,” “Repair,” and “Habits.” Each series focuses on key areas to help strengthen our connection.

Each Series is made up of Sessions that take a deeper dive into the module’s core focus. One that stood out to my partner and me was “Repair”—a 10-session series that helped us explore attachment styles, understand our conflict cycle, and discover ways to move forward together. These sessions include reading material, quizzes and assessments about the relationship, and audio about relevant skills and communication techniques.

Workshops

One of the standout features of the Lasting app is its therapist-led workshops, covering topics such as “Addressing Feelings of Guilt” and “Practicing Direct & Kind Communication”. These sessions offer practical guidance to help couples navigate relationship challenges and improve communication.

Users can choose between live Zoom sessions or on-demand videos for added flexibility. In live sessions, participants are not on camera but can see the therapist and their presentation. A chat box allows for real-time interaction, and a Q&A section enables users to submit questions, which are addressed in the final 30 minutes of the session.

Workshops begin with an introduction from the therapist, including their background and approach. They also outline the session format and materials needed—typically just a pencil and paper. Activities are integrated throughout the session and take no more than two minutes each.

For example, in the Sexual Communication workshop, the first activity asked participants to reflect on a recent moment of closeness with their partner. The provided prompt, “I felt close to you when…”, encouraged meaningful discussion. This exercise underscored how consistent, intentional communication plays a vital role in fostering intimacy.

Meditations

The Lasting app also offers meditations and mindfulness exercises, each lasting five minutes. These guided sessions, such as the Five Senses Scan and Appreciation, help couples cultivate mindfulness both individually and within their relationship. By incorporating these practices, partners can enhance their emotional awareness, deepen their connection, and foster a more intentional approach to communication.
