What Is the Fabulous App?
The Fabulous app is a self-care app that helps you create new, healthy habits through a technique called habit stacking. Habit stacking is when you start with one simple task and build upon it until you reach your big goal. With Fabulous you can choose your goal through themed courses called Journeys. There is a limited free version and a premium version which costs $39.99 annually and comes with a seven-day free trial.
Fabulous has three metaphorical “mountains” that you will climb as you progress through their courses. These mountains are called the Foundations, the Struggle, and the Mastery:
- Foundations teach you how to build structure into your day through routines, called Rituals in the app.
- The Struggle will teach you how to confront your environment and make changes so you are more successful.
- Mastery is the third mountain and in these courses you will learn how to rethink your reactions to stress.
No matter what ultimate goal you have for yourself, whether to sleep better or get more exercise, you will begin with the first journey titled “An Unexpected Journey.” And the best part of this journey is that your very first habit will ask you to simply drink water everyday. If you choose to upgrade to the premium subscription, you will be able to build out rituals for your morning, afternoon, and evening.
Premium Offerings
There are some really great perks to the premium subscription in addition to more journeys and habits being unlocked. You will have access to things like physical exercises from yoga and stretching, to cardio workouts like 5-minute abs and 30 minute runs. There are pre-recorded coaching audios on topics like burnout, being resilient, mindfulness, anxiety, and much more. You can also find breathwork exercises, stories for sleep, and meditations in the app.
Challenges
A unique aspect to Fabulous is that you can add a challenge to complete on top of the journey you have selected. These challenges are grouped by categories like mindset, productivity, hobbies, movement, nutrition, relaxation, relationships, and lifestyle. Depending on what you select to complete, you will get a tailored list of activities to complete in a given time-frame. Once you choose a challenge, it will be listed on your home screen with what activities you need to complete.
Community Space
Fabulous also features a community space called “Circles” and operates like a discussion board. There are different groups you can join on topics like self-care, anxiety, self love and many more. After you create a public profile, you can post your thoughts to various boards, like other people’s posts and leave comments. Having a community to connect with gives you a sense that you are not alone in your struggles and also gives you many shoulders to lean on.
Fabulous for Work
Employers can sign up for Fabulous for Work and offer their employees premium memberships. Who Is the Fabulous App Right For?
The Fabulous app would be great for those looking for a self-care focused app, those wanting to build healthy habits slowly, and those with mild mental health symptoms.
Self-Care Focus
If you want to learn to create daily self-care habits like eating better, exercising, or meditating, Fabulous would be a good fit for you. Fabulous encourages you to do your daily tasks through sending you reminders at a specific time. You can adjust these reminders to fit your schedule, which will give you control of when you want to focus on yourself.
Build Healthy Daily Habits
Not all daily habits are inherently good ones and Fabulous can give you a good framework of how to be more healthy. Perhaps you need help learning healthier coping skills, becoming more resilient, or how to achieve long term goals. These are all big goals that Fabulous will break down into small, manageable steps so that you can be successful.
Mild Mental Health Symptoms
Fabulous would be a great fit for those who have mild symptoms of anxiety, sleeplessness, stress, or procrastination. The morning, afternoon, and evening rituals are awesome to-do lists that can really help those struggling to keep a consistent routine.
Who May Want an Alternative to the Fabulous App?
While Fabulous is great for those interested in self-care and with mild mental health symptoms, those who need more structure and support, need a comprehensive tracking app, or need live therapy will need to seek out an alternative.
Journaling & Support
Fabulous is really great at habit-building, but some people may need more support than the app currently offers. If you are seeking an app that offers more in the way of journaling and live support, Sanvello could be a good fit for you. As we note in our review of Sanvello, they offer mental health coaching through text messages and live group sessions, as well as several cognitive behavioral therapy-based journals. Sanvello, or any of the other great CBT apps out there, may be great option for those struggling with anxiety or depression.
Comprehensive Mood & Symptom Tracker
Fabulous does feature a mood tracker, but it is not as comprehensive as the trackers on other apps. If you are looking for a really in-depth and encompassing tracking app, you may want to look at the Bearable app review. With the Bearable app, you will be able to track your moods, symptoms (mental and physical), and medications. It is an awesome app for those needing to collect information and data to bring to their doctors appointments or therapy sessions.
Need Live Therapy
Apps like Fabulous are great at helping those with mild mental health symptoms, but many of us will need the support of a licensed therapist or counselor. You can find a therapist by using a therapist directory or you can connect with a licensed therapist through one of the many online therapy companies. You may be familiar with companies like BetterHelp or Talkspace, but there are actually dozens of online therapy companies now.

What Users Are Saying About the App
The Fabulous App has 4.6 stars from 73.7K reviews in the Apple App Store and 4.3 stars from 530K reviews in the Google Play Store. While most of the reviews were very positive of this app, there were some negatives noted by users.
Confusing Payment Structure
Many users mentioned that the payment structure for Fabulous was confusing or misleading to them. Some mentioned seeing advertisements stating it was a free app and then were disappointed to be charged a fee each month. Others felt that stating a weekly price but charging per month was too confusing and they should just say one price.
During research, I noticed that prices were different on the website than in the apps. When I attempted to sign up for an account on the website, there was no place to input my credit card information which was odd to me.
Great to Start New Daily Habits
A lot of users really loved that Fabulous helped them create daily habits slowly. Many pointed out that by starting with something easy, like “drink water each day,” it gave them a sense that they could complete other tasks. And I agree that starting out with something as small as drinking water makes bigger goals like exercising daily seem more manageable.
No Customization Available
Some users pointed out that there is no customization available in the app, which does make it less helpful for some. While you can add, remove, or reorder your daily habits, the home screen is stuck in one format and you cannot move things around. There are also no options to change the colors in the app, which is an offering in other self-care and journaling apps.
Too Many Notifications & Emails
Many reviewers stated that the Fabulous app sends out a lot of notifications and emails. This is absolutely true in my experience. You can adjust when you want notifications/reminders for your morning, afternoon, and evening rituals, but there are several other random notifications and emails from the app throughout the day. So far, I have not figured out a way to disable these notifications without silencing all notifications.

Fabulous App Free Version: Detailed Review
The Fabulous app has a free version that will give you a really great sense of everything the premium version offers. With the free version, you will be able to set up your first journey and ritual, and join the community space.
Journeys & Daily Rituals
Journeys in the Fabulous app are like themed courses that help you achieve an overall goal. Regardless of what you select as your goal(s) during sign up, you will start with the most basic journey called “An Unexpected Journey.” The first habit the app asks you to begin creating is “drink water” everyday. This small habit is the building block for all the other habits you will be able to add in the premium version.
Community Space
The community space in the Fabulous app is called “Circles” and it is set up like a discussion board. There are different Circles (forums) that you can follow, and once you set up your profile you can begin posting whatever you want. You will be able to share text and videos with your chosen circle, which is a unique and helpful feature and lets others really get to know you.
Fabulous App Premium: Detailed Review
The premium version of Fabulous has a lot of really awesome content available, from physical exercises and meditations to journaling and unique goal challenges. You will also gain access to more journeys and be able to add more rituals and habits to your home screen. Fabulous premium costs $39.99 annually and comes with a seven-day free trial.
Activities & Challenges
Through the “Discover” tab in the app, you will have access to coaching audios, see different journeys, view challenges, and more. All of the various coaching sessions, meditations, and physical exercises are between 5 to 30 minutes in length, depending on what you would like to do. The Challenges are additional courses you can choose to complete on top of the Journeys. These challenges are in categories like mindset, productivity, hobbies, movement, and several more.
To quickly access the content in the Discover tab, you can simply tap the little spaceship icon in the bottom right corner of your home screen. Once you tap it, two main options pop up, “Make Me Fabulous” or “Start a Challenge.” “Make Me Fabulous” has all of the coaching, meditations and exercises, while “Start a Challenge” features all of the challenges. These features are actually really awesome and I really enjoyed some of the shorter meditations and yoga activities. The yoga sessions in the app are mainly audio, but will show you cartoon pictures of what the yoga poses are supposed to look like.
Final Verdict
Overall, Fabulous initially left me feeling confused and frustrated with how to best utilize its content and goal-setting opportunities. At first, the app was not as intuitive and easy to use as other self-care or habit-tracking apps that I have used in the past. I also felt that the cost difference between the website and the app was confusing, and ultimately I was unable to sign up for an account on the website. However, once I got used to how the app works (and it went through a much-needed update while I was testing it) I really fell in love with the app. Not only is Fabulous aesthetically pleasing but the wide range of content is engaging and interesting. This app is absolutely worth signing up for the free trial to find out if it’s the right fit for achieving your goals!
History of Fabulous App
Fabulous was co-founded in 2014 by Sami Ben Hassine, Taylor Ling, and Amine Laadhari in Paris.1 A few years later, in conjunction with the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University, the trio gained Dan Ariely (professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics) as an advisor. Together they began figuring out how to divide big behavior changes into smaller pieces of the overall puzzle.2
Fabulous Vs Habio
Habio and Fabulous are very similar in what their features are and how they encourage you to create new habits. Both apps are based on behavioral psychology and through habit stacking can help you achieve your mental and physical health goals. Each app has a limited free version, which will give you a good sense of what is offered in the premium version. While the Fabulous app is a little difficult to navigate for new users, Habio offers a more user-friendly and intuitive experience.
Fabulous is mainly available as an annual subscription of $39.99 – $79.99, while Habio is $4.99 weekly. Fabulous currently has a seven-day free trial and Habio offers a three-day free trial.
