Overall, Bearable remains one of the more comprehensive and well-made tracking apps that I have seen over the past couple of years. The fact that it can work just as well for someone with anxiety or depression as it can for someone with chronic physical ailments is really remarkable. Bearable is highly customizable and made to fit your life, plus it is just an all-around great tool. If you are looking for a really detail-rich and dynamic tracking app, I cannot recommend the free version of Bearable more.

Bearable is a tracking app that allows you to log almost every aspect of your day. You can fully customize Bearable to fit your needs, and there is an option to export your data to share with your psychiatrist or therapist. Bearable has a great free version and a premium version that costs $34.99 annually with a seven-day free trial.

Bearable combines aspects of several types of tracking apps into one convenient place. You can log your moods, physical or emotional symptoms, activities, medications, and much more. All of this data will allow you to start seeing exactly what factors affect your overall well-being. There are even reminders you can set for specific times to take your medication or to log an activity, which will help you stay on track with your health.

In the free version of Bearable, you will have access to weekly reports that show your average mood, symptoms, sleep, and energy scores from the previous week. You will also be able to view the factors you selected, from food and menstruation to weather and social media use, that contributed to your average scores. In the premium version, you can unlock more advanced insights and statistics which will give you an even deeper look into how everything in your life is interconnected.

A great perk to Bearable is that it can connect with fitness trackers like Google Fit or Apple Watch and import your sleep, steps, weight, and other health measurements. Bearable allows you to track almost any factor that you think may be affecting your moods, symptoms, sleep, or energy levels. If something isn’t already pre-loaded into the Bearable app as a factor to track, you can create custom factors quite easily. This is great for those who need to focus on specific patterns in their life to see what is affecting their overall well-being.

Medication Reminders

For those who already see a psychiatrist, Bearable would be a great addition to their care plan. Bearable allows you to add any medication and dosages, then set reminders for when to take them. This can be a really helpful tool for those who may forget to take their medicine on time or at all.

Easy Data Exporting

Exporting your information is really easy with the Bearable app and can be useful if you are seeing a psychiatrist or therapist regularly. Showing your provider your moods and symptoms plus your daily factors can really help improve your treatment plan, plus it gives you a great starting place for your conversations.

Who May Want an Alternative to the Bearable App?

While Bearable is a really great tool, it might not be a good fit for everyone. Those needing a simple mood tracker, are seeking community, or needing professional support will want to find an alternative.

Need a Simple Mood Tracker

Bearable allows you to track so many different things that it may be pretty overwhelming to some. For a simpler mood and habit tracker, an app like Daylio might be a better choice. This simple mood tracker allows you to quickly click your mood and what activities or hobbies you’ve completed. Seeking a Community

Unfortunately, Bearable does not have an in-app community for you to connect with. If you are looking for a good in-app community to join that specifically discusses mental health topics, 7 Cups may be a good fit for you. The app is completely free and offers multiple forums on various mental health topics. If needed, you can also text one-on-one with a peer supporter for days when you need a shoulder to lean on. Needing Professional Support

Bearable does not offer live mental health coaching or therapy sessions. A great solution here would be to seek out a platform like BetterHelp, which has a journal space where you could write about your mental health symptoms and how they affect your moods. The Bearable App has a 4.7-star rating from 1.7K reviews on the Apple App Store and a 4.6 star rating from 5.86K reviews on the Google Play Store. While there are some complaints about the Bearable app, overall the reviews are very positive.

App Lags or Freezes

Several users mentioned that Bearable will suddenly freeze, force quit, or will become very laggy as they are tracking their day. Fortunately, Bearable is quick to respond to these user reviews and advises them to connect to customer support at [email protected]. I have not had any problems with Bearable freezing or lagging. The app works exactly the way I want it to each time without fail.

App Used to Be 100% Free

In 2020, Bearable was in its Beta testing form and was offered for free. Original users of the app became upset that it changed and started requiring a monthly or annual fee. Bearable has responded to quite a few of these user reviews to explain that in order to grow as an app and continue to offer such a great service, they had to monetize. Currently, Bearable is exploring whether or not a lifetime subscription option would be a possibility.

Too Many Options

Some of the middle-of-the-road reviews mentioned that Bearable has too many options. Several people mentioned that they felt overwhelmed by the choices and that it also took them a long time (more than 10 minutes) to log everything.

When I first downloaded Bearable, I also felt slightly overwhelmed by how many options there were. I suggest moving any factors that you don’t need to track to make it easier to navigate. You can really tailor Bearable to be the kind of tracking app you need it to be, which is really cool considering many of the customization options are free.

Great Comprehensive App

By far the majority of users mention just how amazing and comprehensive the Bearable app is. People really love that you can track just about any symptom or factor you can think of! Plus, many users mention that Bearable has taken the place of several apps they had been using previously. I think that the Bearable app really has something to offer most people who struggle with physical or mental health symptoms. Being able to customize the app and make it work for you is really helpful.

The free version is really great for those who do not need in-depth statistics and insights about their moods.

How To Get Started With Bearable

Getting started with the Bearable app is a quick and easy process that takes less than 10 minutes.

  1. Download the app in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store
  2. Create an account with your email address and a new password. Verify your email address through a verification email.
  3. Confirm you understand the Bearable privacy policy and that you are over the age of 16.
  4. Choose what health outcomes and factors you want to track. Then select what your goal is for using Bearable and set-up a daily check-in reminder.
  5. Sign up for the seven-day free trial or choose to try out the free version first.

Bearable Free Version: Detailed Review

The free version of the Bearable app contains a large majority of the tools you need to track most aspects of your day. You can log your moods, physical or emotional symptoms, activities, medications, and much more. After a week of tracking, you will be able to view a report of your average mood and symptom scores, as well as what factors contributed to these scores.

Customize What You Track

Bearable lets you track so many different things that it can be really easy to get overwhelmed when you first start with the app. During the signup process, you are given a lot of options for what you can track, called health outcomes (moods, symptoms, etc.) and health factors (sleep, food, etc.). There are also additional health factors you can track in categories like social media, nutrition, hobbies, activity, and many more.

A mistake I made was selecting everything that was offered rather than focusing on things that I knew were affecting my anxiety. Luckily, you can subtract anything easily through the edit function at the bottom of your home screen. This also works for additional health factors you are tracking – easily add ones you want to focus on and delete ones that you do not need.

The customization process in Bearable is pretty straightforward and I highly recommend taking advantage of it as much as possible.

Insights & Weekly Reports

On the Insights tab, you will have a lot of data to view regarding your moods and symptoms. Some of the more advanced graphs and statistics are only available in the premium version, but you will still be able to see some helpful information in the free version.

Each week, you will get a report that tells you your average mood and symptoms scores for the week, as well as sleep and energy scores if you are tracking those. You will also be able to view any health factors you tracked that week and how many times you selected certain factors in that week. The more you track, the more you will be able to see patterns emerge about what affects your moods and symptoms.

Export Your Data

Exporting a copy of your data from Bearable could be important if you are currently under the care of a licensed therapist or psychiatrist. In order to export, simply go to the “More” tab and scroll down to the section called “My Data.” Click “Export my data” and choose which date range you want to export, three months, six months, or all time. You will be able to save a CSV copy, which can be easily viewed in a spreadsheet, to your phone or a cloud service of your choice.

Bearable Premium: Detailed Review

Bearable’s premium version gives you access to all of the advanced mood, symptom, sleep, and energy insights. You will also gain access to other features, like an extra note space and passcode protection. Bearable premium costs $34.99 annually and comes with a seven-day free trial.

Insights

The biggest feature that is unlocked in the premium version is all of the Insights, which are statistics, graphs, and detailed reports. These insights include your moods, symptoms, sleep, and energy as well as reports like average mood per day, average mood over time, and more.

For someone like me who struggles with mild to moderate anxiety, I didn’t really feel like I needed the extra insights and advanced reports. The insights included in the free version gave me plenty of information about what affected me the most in a given week. However, the graphs and reports could be really helpful to someone who is experiencing new symptoms or struggles and cannot figure out what the cause may be.

Other Unlocked Content

Bearable has features like the ability to passcode protect your app and an extra note section locked behind its paywall. There are other interesting features like creating unlimited routines, unlimited significant events, and adding unlimited favorite foods locked behind the paywall. For me, these are great perks, but not necessarily something I need in a tracking app. Bearable already offers so many different pre-loaded features that I didn’t see the need to add anything else.

History of The Bearable App

Bearable was launched in 2020 by James Saady. In 2019, he was forced to quit his job due to chronic health conditions and each doctor’s appointment left him deeply frustrated that he couldn’t give his doctors the full picture.1 James first used a spreadsheet to track his symptoms before realizing that it wasn’t quite right. He then started going from app to app trying to find something that would help him, when he finally realized he would need to make his own app. Bearable has plans to release a guided self-care feature that can help people learn new, positive habits while also showing how creating positive habits can change their health.2 To suggest features the Bearable team should consider adding to the app, you can visit their Bearable Roadmap site.

Bearable Vs Daylio

Bearable and Daylio may seem like they are very similar, and to a certain extent they are, but Bearable is a more comprehensive tracking app by far. Daylio hinges on the fact that you can complete mood, activity and habit check-ins quickly, but these are not very in-depth.

Bearable can take more time to log moods, symptoms, and other health factors, but it offers users a wider picture of their overall mental health. Both apps offer a really great free version that most people will get by with using just fine. For those that need more advanced statistics and insights, both apps offer premium versions. Daylio costs $23.88 annually and Bearable costs $34.99 annually.
