Healthie vs Practice Better: Pricing and Features

ChoosingTherapy.com is user supported. We may earn a commission if you sign up for a service through our links, at no cost to you. Our reviews and comparisons are based on independent research.

At a glance

· Healthie is the lower-cost option for a solo practitioner with up to 250 clients: $49.99 a month versus $69. Its $129.99 plan includes HIPAA-level Zoom for groups, it publishes SOC 2 and HITRUST certification, and the trial does not require a credit card.

· Practice Better becomes less expensive as the practice grows. Three practitioners cost $205 a month versus $249.99, unlimited clients cost $99 versus $129.99, and AI notes start at $10 a month versus $35.

· Both use Claim.MD for electronic claims. Practice Better connects from its $35 plan and includes superbills on every tier. Healthie requires the $129.99 plan for the integration and $49.99 for superbills.

Healthie and Practice Better cover much of the same ground: scheduling, charting, telehealth, client portals, payments, food journals and insurance paperwork, including electronic claims through Claim.MD. The decision is less about which platform has the longest feature list and more about which pricing model fits the way you work.

Healthie offers three solo tiers and one group tier, from $19.99 to $149.99 a month. Practice Better offers a free plan for three clients and four paid tiers from $35 to $155. Both limit solo plans by client count and charge $50 a month for additional practitioners on their group plans. Healthie runs on an ONC-certified EHR and serves dietitians, health coaches and behavioral health providers; its 2026 press room reports 45,000 providers. Practice Better was built in Toronto for allied health practitioners and reports more than 50,000 users in 40 countries. In practical terms, Healthie can be the better value for a smaller solo practice, while Practice Better often costs less once you add practitioners or need unlimited clients, programs or lower-cost AI notes.

Choose Healthie if

Healthie is strongest for smaller solo practices that want a lower starting price, bundled group video or a longer list of published security credentials. The Healthie plans are likely the better fit when:

· You are a cash-pay solo practitioner with up to 250 clients. Essentials costs $49.99, compared with $69 for Practice Better Professional, and both include superbills.

· You have 10 clients or fewer. Core costs $19.99, compared with $35 for Starter.

· You run groups or webinars and do not already pay for Zoom. Plus and Group include a HIPAA-level Zoom subscription with a signed BAA, up to 100 participants, no meeting time limit and no separate Zoom login.

· A hospital, payer or employer partner will review your vendor security. Healthie publishes SOC 2, HITRUST Type R2, ONC certification and PCI Level 1. Practice Better publishes no SOC 2 or HITRUST statement.

· You want to test the software before sharing payment details. The 14-day Healthie trial opens the Plus plan and does not require a credit card.

· You order self-pay labs from Quest, LabCorp or BioReference, or you prescribe and want ePrescribing at $40 per clinician with no setup fee.

Choose Practice Better if

Practice Better starts to cost less once you add a second practitioner. It also makes claims available on the $35 Starter plan, while fixed-date programs and AI notes start on the $69 Professional plan. Healthie puts all three on Plus at $129.99.

· You employ two or more practitioners. Three practitioners cost $205 a month, compared with $249.99 on Healthie.

· You need unlimited clients on a solo plan. Plus costs $99, compared with $129.99, a difference of $30.99 a month.

· You sell programs or courses. Fixed-date programs start at $69. On Healthie, they start at $129.99.

· You want AI notes at the lowest price. Twenty hours a month costs $10 per practitioner, compared with $35 for Healthie’s shared 40-hour pool.

· You bill insurance from an entry-level plan. Superbills are available on every tier, including the free plan, and Claim.MD connects from the $35 Starter plan instead of the $129.99 Plus plan.

· You are a student or recent graduate. The free Sprout plan covers three clients.

· You take ACH payments at 0.8%, run card payments in person, or treat Ontario clients and want the vendor to state PHIPA compliance.

What each tier costs

Both companies reserve team access for their group plans. Healthie’s Core, Essentials and Plus tiers are solo-only. Group starts at $149.99 and adds clinicians for $50 a month, with one free support seat for each provider. Practice Better Team costs $155 for two practitioner licenses, then $50 for each additional practitioner, with unlimited admin users.

Healthie’s pricing page says its plans need no add-ons or fees, but it also lists paid extras: AI charting, inbound eFax at $10 a month, Claim.MD, DoseSpot and API access. In practical terms, treat the listed tier price as a starting point on both platforms.

Three worked totals

For a cash-pay solo practitioner with 40 active clients, Healthie Essentials costs $49.99 a month and Practice Better Professional costs $69. That is a $19.01 monthly difference. On annual billing, the monthly equivalents are $45 and $62. Both include scheduling, charting, telehealth, superbills and a client app. Practice Better also includes fixed-date programs and group sessions, features Healthie reserves for its $129.99 plan.

If that same practitioner needs unlimited clients, self-paced programs, group video and premium branding, the calculation flips. Healthie Plus costs $129.99 and Practice Better Plus costs $99, a difference of $30.99 a month. Add 20 hours of AI notes and the totals become $164.99 and $109.

For a three-person practice sharing one calendar, Healthie costs $249.99 a month, based on $149.99 plus two $50 seats. Practice Better costs $205, based on $155 plus one $50 practitioner, a difference of $44.99. With 40 hours of AI notes across the team, the totals are $284.99 and $235. The annual Practice Better Team plan also includes the $500 premium migration at no charge.

Price changes, refunds and leaving

Healthie previously offered a free Starter plan for 10 clients. It was still on the pricing page on 30 April 2025 but was gone by 5 September 2025, leaving Essentials at $49 as the entry point. Core appeared in October 2025 at $19 and now lists at $19.99.3

Practice Better raised prices on 9 July 2025 for new subscribers and 9 October 2025 for existing subscribers. Starter moved from $25 to $35, Professional from $59 to $69, Plus from $89 to $99 and Team from $145 to $155. The extra-practitioner add-on increased from $35 to $50 on 17 July 2025.1

Legacy pricing continues only while you stay on the same plan. Neither company refunds unused time. Healthie’s terms make all fees non-refundable, including annual contracts, while Practice Better considers refund requests case by case.

Before canceling Healthie, download anything you need. Healthie says it cannot export or transfer client data after cancellation, although client accounts stay open on the platform. Practice Better keeps your data until you ask for removal, starts deletion 30 days later and handles bulk export requests by email.

Group video and telehealth

Both platforms include one-to-one video, but they handle group care differently. Healthie includes one-to-one telehealth on every plan, including the $19.99 Core tier, alongside charts, forms and metrics. Practice Better includes it on every paid tier without requiring Zoom and leaves it off the free Sprout plan.

For groups and webinars, Healthie provides a HIPAA-compliant Zoom subscription on Plus and Group. The BAA is already signed between Healthie and Zoom, meetings can include up to 100 participants, there is no time limit, and you do not need a personal Zoom login or a separate fee. Practice Better connects your own Zoom account from Professional up, so your plan determines both the participant cap, 100 on Basic and Pro, 300 on Business and 500 on Enterprise, and the added Zoom cost. Healthie Plus is $30.99 a month more than Practice Better Plus, and that difference includes the Zoom subscription. Practice Better reviewers have asked for native group video so they can stop paying for Zoom separately.

Filing insurance claims

Both platforms integrate with Claim.MD and can create CMS 1500 claims and superbills without a clearinghouse. The main difference is how early those features appear in the plan ladder. Practice Better sends superbills from every tier, including free Sprout, exports CMS 1500 forms on any paid tier and connects Claim.MD from the $35 Starter plan. Healthie requires Essentials at $49.99 for superbills and CMS 1500s, then Plus at $129.99 for Claim.MD or its direct Office Ally integration.

Practice Better charges no per-claim fee and does not publish a Claim.MD price because Claim.MD bills you directly. Healthie moves your Claim.MD account under its vendor account and adds the subscription to your Healthie invoice. Its pricing page lists two amounts: $30 a month in the plan table, or $25 a month plus a $50 to $100 setup fee in the integrations section. A solo practitioner billing electronically is therefore looking at about $159.99 a month on Healthie before any setup fee, compared with $69 plus whatever Claim.MD charges on Practice Better. Our Claim.MD review explains what the clearinghouse does and what it costs.

After Claim.MD is connected to Practice Better, claims sync every 12 hours and can be resynced manually once an hour. Secondary insurance is carried as coordination-of-benefits data on the primary claim rather than submitted separately. Any claim that pays $0 appears as “Denied,” including claims applied to a deductible.

AI notes and charting

Practice Better prices AI charting by audio hours and by practitioner: $10 a month for 20 hours, $20 for 60 and $40 for 120, with extra minutes at two cents. It can produce SOAP, outline, narrative or custom-template notes from the Professional tier up. Session prep, a writing assistant, session insights and a program content generator were added during 2026 with no listed charge.

Healthie’s AI Charting uses one shared pool across the account. It costs $35 a month for 40 hours, with overage at $0.85 an hour, unused hours rolling over for one month and no free trial. The feature runs on Plus and above. It launched in October 2025 and works during telehealth through the Zoom integration, in person through the device microphone and on phone calls, drafting SOAP, ADIME or custom-template notes.

For a solo practitioner using 20 hours a month, Practice Better costs $10 and Healthie costs $35. For a three-person team sharing 40 hours, Practice Better costs $30 and Healthie costs $35, although Healthie’s single shared pool is simpler to manage than three separate allowances. Healthie’s ONC-certified EHR includes smart-fill charting and auto-scored PHQ-9 forms. Practice Better supports SOAP, ADIME, DAP, BIRP and custom formats, plus GAD-7 and PHQ-9 templates, snippets and a supplement tracker. Reviewers of both platforms report that uploaded PDFs cannot be made e-signable, so the documents have to be rebuilt as forms inside the system.

What reviewers report

Healthie is rated 4.4 from 124 Capterra reviews and 4.0 from 24 G2 reviews. Practice Better is rated 4.8 from 97 Capterra reviews, 4.7 from 300 G2 reviews and 3.8 from 74 Trustpilot reviews. Healthie’s Trustpilot score is 4.0 from only five reviews, which is too small a sample to interpret. Practice Better asks customers for reviews and Healthie does not, which may account for part of the difference in review volume.2

Healthie reviewers like being able to replace several tools at a low entry price. They also praise the client portal and app, and dietitians in group practice call out the Claim.MD billing workflow. The most common complaint in 2025 and 2026 reviews is slow support, which is handled by email with no published phone number. Reviewers also mention a learning curve, the course builder, slow food tracking, superbill delays and the loss of the free tier.

Practice Better earns similar praise for bringing several tools together, along with deep customization of notes, forms and portal menus, a program builder, dispensary and lab integrations and the free Sprout starting point. The most frequent complaint through 2026 is a steep learning curve and a dated interface. The company says a redesign now rolling out is meant to address that. Reviewers also dislike pricing by client count because inactive clients can push a practice into a higher tier, and mental health users say some templates and screening tools feel dietitian-first. Reviews describe practitioners moving from Practice Better to Healthie over cost and setup, and from Healthie to Practice Better over food tracking and the free plan.

When neither is right

Neither platform is an obvious fit for a therapist who bills insurance for most sessions. Healthie puts electronic claim submission behind its $129.99 plan, while Practice Better requires a separate Claim.MD account with no published price. SimplePractice is built for US mental health practices, and our SimplePractice review explains its plans and insurance pricing. Our Practice Better review covers Practice Better’s tiers, features and limits in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Practice Better cheaper than Healthie?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

It depends on the size of the practice. Healthie costs less at the lower end: $19.99 versus $35 for 10 clients, and $49.99 versus $69 for a mid-size caseload. Practice Better costs less above that point: $99 versus $129.99 for unlimited clients and $205 versus $249.99 for three practitioners. It also has the only free plan.

Which is better for dietitians and nutritionists?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

For most nutrition practices, Practice Better. It includes meal planning through That Clean Life, a 600,000-food database with barcode scanning, food and mood journals, and Fullscript, WholeScripts, Rupa and Evexia integrations, along with programs and group courses. Healthie may suit a dietitian who bills insurance electronically and wants group telehealth without paying separately for Zoom.

Which is better for therapists who run groups or programs?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Practice Better is less expensive for programs, while Healthie has the stronger bundled group-video offer. Practice Better includes fixed-date programs at $69, self-paced and evergreen programs at $99, and GAD-7 and PHQ-9 templates. Healthie starts programs at $129.99, but that plan includes a HIPAA-compliant Zoom subscription for groups. Practice Better expects you to bring and pay for your own Zoom account.

Does Healthie still have a free plan?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

No. Healthie’s free Starter plan for 10 clients was still on the pricing page on 30 April 2025 and was gone by 5 September 2025. The lowest-priced Healthie plan is now Core at $19.99 a month. Practice Better still offers the free Sprout plan for students and recent graduates with up to three clients.

Which has the better free trial?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Healthie has the more flexible trial. It gives you 14 days on Plus without a credit card, sends a reminder three days before the trial ends and lets you add real or test clients. Practice Better also offers 14 days, or 30 on Team, but requires a card and charges it when the trial ends unless you cancel. Selecting “I need more time” during cancellation offers a 14-day extension.

Does Practice Better handle insurance billing?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Partly. Every tier can send superbills, and any paid tier can create and export CMS 1500 claims. Electronic submission and ERA tracking require a Claim.MD account that Claim.MD bills separately. Practice Better charges no per-claim fee and publishes no clearinghouse price. Healthie follows a similar model from its $129.99 Plus plan, with the Claim.MD fee folded into the Healthie invoice.

Which one is more secure?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Both state HIPAA, GDPR and PIPEDA compliance and keep audit logs. Healthie encrypts data in transit with 256-bit SSL and runs regular third-party penetration tests. Practice Better uses AES-256 in transit and at rest, role-based permissions and two-factor authentication. Healthie publishes more certifications: SOC 2, HITRUST Type R2, ONC certification and PCI Service Provider Level 1. Practice Better adds PHIPA for Ontario practices but publishes no SOC 2 or HITRUST statement, so Healthie has more documentation available for a partner organization reviewing your vendors.

What does a three-person group practice pay?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Healthie Group costs $149.99 a month for one provider seat and one support seat, with additional clinicians at $50. Three practitioners therefore cost $249.99, and each clinician receives a free support account. Practice Better Team costs $155 for two licenses plus $50 for the third practitioner, with unlimited admins, for a total of $205. Practice Better is $44.99 a month cheaper in this example.

Which is better: Practice Better vs. Nutrium?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Practice Better, unless your practice focuses only on nutrition consultations. Nutrium does not list insurance claims, superbills, programs, courses, group sessions, ePrescribing or lab integrations. It covers meal planning, nutrient analysis, scheduling, a client food diary and telehealth. Nutrium costs $25 a month billed yearly or $39 monthly for unlimited clients, compared with Practice Better Plus at $99. Those Nutrium rates apply to the first year or first 12 monthly payments and renew at a higher price.

How hard is it to move from one to the other?

Click here to open the answer container.Click here to close the answer container.

Practice Better’s free basic migration covers your active client list and Square or Stripe payment data. Its $500 premium migration adds video-call support and transfers documentation, labs, services and appointments. Migrations take about five business days, and courses do not transfer. Healthie includes a one-time import with a paid plan, but for non-enterprise customers it imports client demographic data only. Data-transfer support is listed from Essentials up.
