Professional Background

Kayla Patterson is the owner and therapist behind Therapy With KP, which provides counseling services in person in Charlotte, NC, and virtually across NC. Kayla began her career in mental health as a crisis interventionist on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which inspired her to continue her education and become a therapist. Over the past six years, Kayla has narrowed her focus to the impact of trauma on the mind, body, and spirit. She specializes in working with clients who have experienced trauma, struggles with faith/spirituality concerns (commonly known as deconstruction or existential crises), chronic illness, attachment concerns, depression, and anxiety.

Kayla is heavily influenced by the ideals of existential therapy and is passionate about helping clients find and create purpose amidst even the most difficult life circumstances. As many difficult life circumstances stem from current or past trauma, she often utilizes eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to treat and relieve PTSD, acute stress, and anxiety symptoms resulting from traumatic and other life experiences. Kayla adapts her approach to meet each client’s individual needs and utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and strengths-based techniques.

While Kayla has spent many years receiving advanced education and training in mental health counseling, she continues to believe that each client is the expert on themselves and their needs. She is honored to help clients access their resiliency and act as a guide on their journey to finding holistic wellness.

In addition to writing for ChoosingTherapy.com, Kayla Patterson’s expertise has been featured in To Write Love on Her Arms.
