At a glance

  • If you’re leaving Healthie because of support or the learning curve, Jane gives every plan phone, chat, and email support, plus free onboarding and data import, for $54 to $99 a month.
  • Practice Better offers unlimited clients at $99, compared with Healthie Plus at $129.99. Fixed-date programs start at $69, making it worth considering if cost is increasing as your practice grows or you want to run programs.
  • For higher-volume insurance billing, SimplePractice lets you file claims directly without maintaining a separate clearinghouse account. Plans start at $49 a month with unlimited clients, and claims cost 39 cents each starting October 1, 2026.

Therapists, dietitians, health coaches, and virtual-care companies use Healthie as an EHR and practice-management platform. Its plans range from $19.99 a month for 10 active clients to $149.99 and up for a group practice. Healthie’s free plan ended in 2025.

Healthie has a 4.4 out of 5 rating from 124 Capterra reviews. One of the most consistent complaints is customer support. Reviewers frequently mention that support is handled through chat and email rather than by phone.1 Core and Essentials customers receive chat and email support only, and Healthie does not publish a support phone number.

If you’re thinking about switching, the best Healthie alternative depends on what is pushing you to leave. Jane stands out for accessible support, Practice Better for programs and growing caseloads, and SimplePractice for insurance billing. Carepatron offers a free starting point, while CharmHealth and Cerbo are better suited to practices with more medical or prescribing needs.

As a group practice owner, I would look beyond the monthly subscription price before switching EHRs. The better question is what the platform will cost you in staff time, billing workflow, add-ons, onboarding, and the disruption of moving client records. A cheaper plan is not necessarily cheaper to operate if your team has to work around missing features.

Quick picks by reason for leaving Healthie

Of about 110 Capterra reviews we read from 2017 through 2026, at least 14 identified slow, email-only support as the main drawback, including reviews from April and May 2026.1 At least 12 described a learning curve involving forms and billing setup, while at least nine complained about costs increasing as providers were added or about programs being limited to the $129.99 tier.

Insurance billing appears less often in reviews, but our Healthie review found that Healthie has fewer claims tools than EHRs designed more specifically around insurance-based practices.

  • Best for reachable support: Jane, with phone support on every plan.
  • Best for programs and cost at scale: Practice Better, with unlimited clients at $99 and a free Sprout plan for students.
  • Best for insurance billing: SimplePractice, with built-in claims and a 30-day trial that does not require a card.
  • Best for a free start: Carepatron, with unlimited clients and telehealth on its free plan.
  • Best for a medical practice that prescribes: CharmHealth, with a free tier covering 50 encounters a month and e-prescribing for $15.
  • Best for functional medicine clinics: Cerbo, with controlled and compounded e-prescribing.

When comparing these prices, pay attention to what happens as your practice grows. Per-clinician charges, claims fees, telehealth add-ons, e-prescribing, and other features can make two similarly priced base plans very different in practice.

Jane App for phone support and onboarding

Jane is practice-management software for therapists and allied health clinics. Its biggest difference from Healthie is support.

Jane provides phone, chat, and email support on every plan, along with free onboarding and data import. Capterra reviewers give its customer service a 4.8 out of 5 rating across 534 reviews.1

US plans are Balance at $54 a month, which includes 20 appointments a month, Practice at $79, and Thrive at $99.

On the Practice plan, additional practitioners cost $35 for full-time or $17.50 for part-time. Those rates increase to $40 and $20 on Thrive. A practice with five full-time practitioners would pay $219 a month on Jane Practice, compared with $349.99 on Healthie Group.

Group video for up to 15 participants costs $15 per practitioner. Insurance billing is a $20 account-wide add-on on Practice or Thrive, and the Claim.MD account is billed separately.

Jane does not offer a free trial, only a demo account. It also lacks programs, a food journal, and e-prescribing.

If support is one of the main reasons you’re considering leaving Healthie, Jane’s phone access is a meaningful difference. When an EHR affects scheduling, documentation, billing, and client communication, being able to reach someone quickly can matter more than a small difference in the monthly subscription price.

Compare Jane’s plans

Practice Better charges less for programs and unlimited clients

Practice Better is particularly relevant for nutrition and wellness practices that use programs as part of their business model.

G2 lists Practice Better first among Healthie alternatives. It has a 4.7 out of 5 rating from more than 299 reviewers, compared with Healthie’s 4.0 from 242 reviewers.

Every paid Practice Better plan includes meal planning and access to a 600,000-food database.

Plans cost $35 for Starter with 10 clients, $69 for Professional with 300 clients, and $99 for Plus with unlimited clients. Team costs $155 for two practitioners, plus $50 for each additional practitioner.

Fixed-date programs become available on Professional at $69. Healthie requires its $129.99 Plus plan for programs.

AI notes start at $10 a month on Practice Better, compared with $35 on Healthie. Insurance claims are handled through Claim.MD. E-prescribing costs $49 a month plus a $99 onboarding fee per prescriber.

Healthie remains less expensive for smaller caseloads. Its $19.99 plan compares with $35 for Practice Better at 10 clients, while Healthie’s $49.99 plan covers up to 250 clients compared with $69 for Practice Better Professional.

Practice Better also uses your own Zoom account for group sessions, its trial requires a credit card, and Trustpilot reviewers mention a learning curve.

For a growing practice, I would compare the price at the caseload you expect to have six or 12 months from now, not only what each platform costs today. A pricing structure that works well for 10 clients can look very different once you have hundreds of clients or multiple clinicians.

Our Practice Better review covers each tier.

See Practice Better’s plans

SimplePractice for insurance billing

SimplePractice is the strongest option on this list for practices prioritizing insurance billing.

Claims are built directly into the platform, so therapists can file primary and secondary claims without maintaining a separate clearinghouse account. Starting October 1, 2026, claims cost 39 cents each for the first 250 per month, decreasing to 33 cents each once you exceed 1,000.8

Plans cost $49 for Starter, $79 for Essential, and $99 for Plus. All three include unlimited clients, telehealth, and a client app.

SimplePractice also offers a 30-day trial without requiring a credit card. E-prescribing costs $49 a month plus an $89 setup fee.

The trade-off is that SimplePractice does not include programs, food journals, or meal-planning tools.

Its Trustpilot rating is 2.8 out of 5 across 1,612 reviews. Reviewers frequently complain about price increases and difficulty reaching support.

For an insurance-based therapy practice, billing workflow deserves as much attention as the subscription price. Small inefficiencies become much more noticeable when you’re submitting claims across multiple clinicians and payers. I would compare how many steps it takes to create, submit, correct, and track a claim, not simply whether the platform says it supports insurance.

The SimplePractice review has more detail on each plan.

Check SimplePractice’s plans

Carepatron’s free plan includes unlimited clients

Carepatron is one of the more accessible options if your priority is starting without a monthly software bill.

It serves therapists, dietitians, coaches, and medical practices. Its Free plan allows unlimited clients and includes 1 GB of storage, a client portal, online payments, an AI scribe, and one-to-one telehealth.

Plus costs $31 a month and adds group telehealth and unlimited storage. Advanced costs $39 and adds electronic claims starting at 25 cents each through Claim.MD.

Carepatron offers a 14-day trial without requiring a credit card.

The platform does not include programs or nutrition-specific tools. Capterra gives it a 4.4 rating from 859 reviews, while Trustpilot gives it 3.6 from 41 reviews. Seventeen percent of the Trustpilot ratings are one star, with bugs and email-first support among the recurring complaints.

The free plan is appealing, but I would still consider how long you expect to stay on it. Moving an established practice to another EHR later can take significantly more effort than choosing a platform that can support your expected growth from the beginning.

CharmHealth for medical practices that prescribe

CharmHealth is an EHR built for physician practices, including psychiatry and integrative medicine.

Its Free plan covers 50 encounters per month. The Encounter plan charges 50 cents per encounter with a $25 monthly minimum, while the Provider plan costs $200 per provider.

E-prescribing through Surescripts costs $15 per provider per month, compared with $40 on Healthie. Controlled-substance prescribing costs $250 per provider per year.

Electronic claims are processed through Optum. Pricing starts with a $25 monthly minimum covering the first 50 claims, followed by 25 cents for each additional claim.

CharmHealth makes more sense for practices that need medical EHR features. A dietitian or coach may end up paying for lab, prescribing, and billing capabilities they do not use, while giving up programs and food journals.

What Cerbo offers functional medicine clinics

Cerbo is designed for functional medicine, direct primary care, and cash-based clinics. It merged with OptiMantra in December 2025.

Its e-prescribing tools support controlled and compounded medications, and its lab integrations work in both directions.

Pricing is based on the user’s role. A prescribing provider costs $281 a month, a non-prescribing provider costs $256, a supporting provider such as an RD or LCSW costs $127, and staff cost $63.

At least one provider must be designated as full-time primary.

Setup costs $1,195, or $595 for a new practice with fewer than 30 patients. The patient portal costs another $79, while telemedicine is a $27-per-provider add-on.

Cerbo does not submit insurance claims directly.2

For a functional medicine practice that needs prescribing and lab integration, those features may justify the higher cost. For a therapy, coaching, or nutrition practice that does not use them, Healthie or another lower-cost platform is likely to provide more relevant tools.

Healthie competitors among virtual care platforms

Healthie is not only practice-management software for individual clinicians. It also markets itself to virtual-care startups as a headless, API-first EMR that companies can customize and brand.

Healthie reports processing 2.5 billion API calls per month. API access is available as an Enterprise or Group add-on, but Healthie does not publish the price.

Four platforms compete more directly with Healthie for this type of buyer:

  • Canvas Medical: Builder costs $4,000 a month for unlimited users and 1,000 active patients. Contracts generally run for two years.3
  • Medplum: An open-source, FHIR-native developer platform. It is free when self-hosted, with cloud plans at $2,000 and $6,000 a month.
  • Akute Health: Costs $300 a month for one clinician and 100 patients, with custom pricing for its Developer tier and API access.
  • Elation Health: A primary-care EHR with a developer platform and sandbox. Pricing is available by quote only.

Healthie is the only one of these five platforms that also sells self-service plans directly to solo practitioners, starting at $19.99 a month.

Is Healthie still right for some people?

Yes. Switching platforms only makes sense if another product solves a problem that matters enough to justify the move.

Most 2025 and 2026 Capterra reviewers praise Healthie for replacing several tools with one subscription that a solo practice can afford.1

Core costs $19.99 for 10 clients, compared with $35 at Practice Better, $49 at SimplePractice, and $54 at Jane. Essentials holds up to 250 clients for $49.99.

Every Healthie plan includes food and lifestyle journaling, while Plus includes HIPAA-compliant Zoom for group sessions.

Healthie’s e-prescribing costs $40 a month with no setup fee. Its help center says Claim.MD is available on Essentials and above, although the pricing table marks the feature only for Plus and Group.4 The 14-day Plus trial does not require a credit card.

There is also an important consideration before canceling. Healthie does not refund fees, including annual-plan fees, and says it cannot export client data once an account has been canceled.5 Download your records before closing the account.

As a practice owner, that last step would be part of my transition plan, not something I would leave until cancellation day. Before changing EHRs, I would confirm how clinical records, billing data, signed forms, client contact information, and other required documentation will be exported and imported. I would also make sure the new system is ready before shutting down access to the old one.

If Healthie already handles the parts of your practice you use most, particularly nutrition, coaching, journaling, or programs, staying may be less disruptive than switching for a feature you rarely need.
