- For solo dietitians, nutritionists, and coaches focused on cost, Healthie costs $19.99 a month for 10 active clients and $49.99 for 250. Practice Better charges $35 for 10 and $69 for 300.

Practice Better is a Toronto-based platform for dietitians, nutritionists, health coaches, and wellness practitioners. It combines booking, charting, telehealth, meal planning, supplement dispensaries, and online programs in one subscription.
After a July 2025 increase across all paid plans, Starter costs $35 a month for up to 10 clients. 1 Pricing and client limits remained concerns in September 2026 Trustpilot reviews. 2 Other reasons to consider switching include templates geared toward nutrition rather than talk therapy, and group video that requires your own Zoom account.
All eight alternatives below store client records, and seven offer a trial without a credit card. Prices were collected from company pricing pages on September 22, 2026.

How do the Practice Better alternatives compare?

Healthie for nutrition and coaching practices
Healthie serves nutrition, coaching, behavioral health, and wellness practices. The US platform has an ONC-certified EHR and states HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance.
Pricing and client limits
Core costs $19.99 a month for 10 active clients, Essentials costs $49.99 for 250, and Plus costs $129.99 for unlimited clients. Multiple practitioners require Group, which starts at $149.99 plus $50 per additional provider. Annual billing saves 10%.
Core costs $15.01 less than Practice Better Starter at the same 10-client limit. Essentials costs $19.01 less than Practice Better Professional but allows 250 clients rather than 300. The 14-day trial provides access to Plus without a credit card.
Features and limitations
Food and lifestyle journaling comes with every plan and connects to Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, Withings, and Dexcom. Healthie’s HIPAA-compliant Zoom integration does not require a personal Zoom account or an extra video fee.
However, programs and group video require the $129.99 Plus plan. That is $30.99 more than Practice Better’s unlimited Plus plan.
Insurance billing uses a separately billed Claim.MD account. Healthie’s pricing page lists conflicting starting costs of $25 and $30 a month.
Healthie rates 4.4 out of 5 from 124 Capterra reviews. Limited real-time support and a learning curve are recurring complaints. 3
Look at Healthie’s plans
SimplePractice for therapists who bill insurance
SimplePractice serves about 250,000 practitioners and focuses on mental health care. Built-in insurance billing is a key reason for therapists to consider it over Practice Better.
Plans, billing, and telehealth
Solo plans cost $49 for Starter, $79 for Essential, and $99 for Plus. All include unlimited clients, removing Practice Better’s 10-client and 300-client limits.
Electronic primary and secondary claims, ERA enrollment, CMS-1500 forms, and superbills come with every plan, without a clearinghouse subscription. Starting October 1, 2026, the first 250 submitted claims will cost 39 cents each, with rates as low as 33 cents at higher volumes. 4 Each clinician also pays $20 a year for AMA CPT codes.
Telehealth is included on every plan without session limits. Group appointments for up to 15 clients come with Plus or cost $20 a month per clinician on Essential. The trial provides 30 days on Plus without a credit card. Our SimplePractice review covers each plan.
Features and costs to consider
SimplePractice has no programs, courses, meal planners, food journals, dispensaries, or lab integrations. Coaching and functional-medicine practices would lose those tools.
Prices have risen here, too. Starter increased from $29 to $49 in March 2025, and the October 2026 change removes the free claims previously included on Essential and Plus. Five clinicians cost $395 a month, compared with $305 on Practice Better.
SimplePractice rates 2.8 out of 5 from 1,612 Trustpilot reviews. Difficulty reaching support is the second most common complaint after price. 5

Jane App for growing and multidisciplinary clinics
Jane serves multidisciplinary allied health clinics, with a community of more than 10,000 allied health professionals. It does not include nutrition tools, programs, or a course builder.
Plans and group practice costs
US plans cost $54 for Balance, $79 for Practice, and $99 for Thrive. Balance has a 20-appointment limit and increased from $39 to $54 between July and September 2025.
On Practice, additional practitioners cost $17.50 part-time or $35 full-time. Admin staff, billers, and receptionists are free and unlimited. Five practitioners cost $219 a month, compared with $305 on Practice Better Team.
Every plan includes free phone support, onboarding, and data import. Jane does not offer a free trial. Paid accounts require a credit card at signup, and billing starts that month.
Video and insurance billing
Couples and group video cost $15 a month per practitioner. The add-on supports up to 12 related clients or 15 unrelated participants without a Zoom account.
US electronic claims require a $20 monthly account-wide add-on and a separately billed Claim.MD account. This adds an insurance subscription fee to the clearinghouse arrangement Practice Better uses. Superbills and CMS-1500 forms are included on every plan without the add-on.
Jane rates 4.1 out of 5 from 114 Trustpilot reviews, with support the most praised feature. 5 Our Jane App review covers the plans in detail.
Carepatron for a free plan with higher client limits
Carepatron is a New Zealand company serving dietitians, health coaches, therapists, and other medical, allied health, and wellness professionals.
Free and paid plans
The free plan includes unlimited clients, one-to-one telehealth, a client portal, online payments, charting, and an AI scribe. It allows 100 appointments a month and 1 GB of storage. By comparison, Practice Better’s free Sprout plan is intended for students and recent graduates and stops at three clients.
US prices checked on September 22, 2026, were $31 a month for Plus and $39 for Advanced. The 14-day trial requires no payment details until you upgrade.
Insurance, groups, and limitations
Carepatron uses Claim.MD, so switching from Practice Better does not change the clearinghouse. Plus includes superbills. Advanced adds CMS-1500 forms, electronic claims starting at 25 cents each, ERA recording, and automatic status checks.
Group telehealth, scheduling, and notes come with Plus at $31. Practice Better requires Professional for group classes and uses your own Zoom account for video.
Carepatron’s pricing table lists no meal-plan builder, food journal, dispensary, lab integration, program, or course feature.
Reliability is a recurring concern. Carepatron rates 3.6 out of 5 from 41 Trustpilot reviews, with 17% giving one star. 5 A March 2026 Capterra reviewer reported cumbersome templates and lost AI-note data. Its overall Capterra rating is 4.4 from 859 reviews.
Kalix for dietitians billing US insurance
Kalix is built for dietitians and nutritionists and supports the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Nutrition Care Process. It closely matches the needs of a nutrition practice that bills insurance.
Standard costs $27 a month and includes invoicing, superbills, and insurance billing, but no client portal, telehealth, or online booking. Virtual Practice costs $47 and includes the same features as Standard, plus a client portal, telehealth, online booking, group meetings for up to 150 participants and card processing. Food logging is still marked as coming soon on the solo plan. Annual billing saves 15%.
Kalix’s built-in clearinghouse costs $15 a month per billing provider tax ID. It covers unlimited claims across more than 3,000 insurers without a third-party account. Standard with the clearinghouse totals $42 a month, compared with Practice Better Professional at $69 plus Claim.MD charges. The trial lasts a full month without a credit card.
The public review record is limited. Kalix has four G2 reviews averaging 4.3 out of 5, with no Capterra listing or Trustpilot profile.
Nutrium for meal planning and nutritional analysis
Nutrium focuses on meal planning and nutritional analysis. Its client app includes food diaries, progress tracking, and direct chat, and video consultations are built in.
US prices checked on September 22, 2026, were $25 a month for 10 clients a month or $39 for unlimited clients. Annual billing lowers the equivalent monthly prices to $15 and $25. These introductory rates apply to the first annual subscription or 12 consecutive monthly payments. Listed renewal prices are roughly double.
Nutrium’s website and help center list no superbill, CMS-1500, or claim feature, leaving insurance billing availability unclear. It is designed for nutrition professionals and has no therapist or coach templates.
The $39 unlimited plan costs less than Practice Better Professional at $69 for 300 clients. However, Practice Better adds superbills, CMS-1500 export, programs, ePrescribe, and 26 integrations. Nutrium rates 4.2 out of 5 from 38 Capterra reviews.
TherapyNotes for behavioral health and phone support
TherapyNotes suits therapists who need behavioral health tools rather than Practice Better’s nutrition-focused screening tools. Solo costs $69 a month, matching Practice Better Professional. Group costs $79 for the first clinician plus $50 for each additional clinician, with non-clinical staff included free.
Every plan includes unlimited clients, appointments, notes, and storage. A client portal, free unlimited one-to-one telehealth, free client data import, 24/7 phone support, and email support are also included. Electronic claims, ERAs, and eligibility requests cost 14 cents each, without a clearinghouse subscription. The trial lasts 30 days without a credit card.
There are no nutrition tools, food journals, meal plans, dispensaries, or programs, making it less suited to dietitians, coaches, and functional-medicine practices. There is also no free plan. Add-ons include TherapyFuel AI notes at $40 a month per clinician and ePrescribe at $65.
TherapyNotes rates 4.9 out of 5 from 3,167 Trustpilot reviews, with 94% giving five stars. 5 It scores 4.7 from 970 Capterra reviews, where responsive support is a recurring theme. 3
Zanda for a low-cost paid plan
Formerly Power Diary, Zanda is an Australian platform with US pricing and insurance billing. It serves psychology, counseling, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy practices, but has no nutrition- or coaching-specific tools.
US prices checked on September 22, 2026, were $19 a month for Starter and $49 for Growth. Starter includes one practitioner, unlimited clients, 1,000 appointments, and 100 GB of storage. Growth adds practitioners at $19 each, with unlimited free admin users. A September promotion offers 50% off both plans for six months.
Compared with Practice Better’s $35 Starter plan, Zanda saves $16 a month and removes the 10-client cap. Both Zanda plans include CMS-1500 forms, ICD-10 codes, and superbills. Its built-in Ensora clearinghouse charges a $50 enrollment fee, then 15 cents per claim and 10 cents per ERA.
The trial lasts 14 days without a credit card, migration is free, and Zanda publishes a 12-month money-back guarantee. It rates 4.7 out of 5 from 556 Trustpilot reviews. 5
When does it make sense to stay with Practice Better?
Practice Better may still fit practices built around nutrition, protocols, programs, and group courses.
Nutrition tools and programs
Fixed-date programs start with Professional at $69. Plus and Team add self-paced and evergreen formats, alongside group courses. Among the alternatives in this article, Healthie is the only other platform with automated programs, starting at $129.99.
Nutrition tools are available across paid plans. They include That Clean Life meal planning, a 600,000-food database, barcode scanning, Fullscript and WholeScripts supplement dispensaries, and Rupa and Evexia lab ordering. Reviewers say the client app’s food and mood journals help keep clients engaged between sessions.
Pricing and reviews
Annual billing brings Starter to $25 a month and Plus to $89. The free Sprout plan is available to students and recent graduates. Practice Better adds no per-claim fee of its own on top of Claim.MD.
Practice Better rates 4.8 out of 5 from 97 Capterra reviews and 4.7 from 300 G2 reviews. The company responded to 83% of its negative Trustpilot reviews. 2
The mobile app has lower ratings: 3.79 from 2,391 App Store ratings and 3.0 from 380 Google Play ratings. These scores reflect the app rather than the broader web platform. 6
Support and navigation
Support is available through email, AI chat, and booked Zoom calls from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, with no inbound phone line. Navigation complaints are common, and a refreshed design began rolling out in September 2026.
There are no contracts, and cancellation is available at any time. Practitioners can try the redesign before deciding whether to switch. Our Practice Better review provides the full plan breakdown.
