At a glance
  • Yes, in 10 states. Grow Therapy’s plan checker lists Medicaid or managed Medicaid plans in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia as of September 2026. No Medicaid option appeared in the plan checker for the other 40 states and DC when we checked on September 5, 2026. Grow lists Medicaid among the insurance types it accepts and told us coverage varies by state (confirmed September 8, 2026).
  • Medicaid clients usually pay nothing. Grow’s search pages list an average cost of $0 for its Georgia, Ohio, Florida, and Connecticut Medicaid plans. Grow’s own guide gives a range of $0 to $25.
  • Coverage depends on your specific plan. Texas, for example, has UnitedHealthcare Medicaid only. California has 14 Medi-Cal plans, but not Kaiser, Molina, or Anthem.

Grow Therapy contracts with Medicaid plans state by state. As of September 5, 2026, it had Medicaid contracts in 10 states. Most states provide Medicaid through private managed-care plans, and Grow bills those plans directly where it has a contract. Medicaid clients do not need to keep a card on file.

Grow’s plan checker lists every Medicaid plan it accepts in those 10 states. Therapy and medication management were both available through Medicaid in the states we checked. Search Grow’s directory using your Medicaid plan to see which providers accept it near you.

Which Medicaid plans does Grow Therapy accept by state?

Grow’s Medicaid guide says it has qualified therapists who accept Medicaid, but it does not provide a state-by-state list. That information is in the cost estimator, which changes the available plans based on the state you select. On September 5, 2026, a Medicaid or managed Medicaid option appeared in these 10 states and nowhere else.

State Medicaid plans in Grow’s checker Verified therapists listed
California 14 Medi-Cal plans, listed below 181 for Blue Shield of California, 142 for L.A. Care, 117 for Health Net
Connecticut Medicaid (Husky Health) 51
Florida UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid 56
Georgia Peach State Health Plan 274
Hawaii UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid Not published
Indiana Managed Health Services, UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid 101 for Managed Health Services
Minnesota Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid, HealthPartners Medicaid, UCare Medicaid 23, 35, and 30
Ohio Buckeye Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid 178 for Buckeye
Texas UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid Not published
Virginia Kaiser Permanente Medicaid, UnitedHealthcare/Optum Medicaid 242 for Kaiser

Source: Grow Therapy’s cost estimator and plan directory pages as of September 5, 2026. Grow describes these counts as verified therapists with availability within the next few weeks.

Connecticut is the only state where plain fee-for-service Medicaid is an option. In the other nine states, you must have one of the named managed-care plans. Texas Medicaid members with Superior HealthPlan, Amerigroup, or Molina do not have a Medicaid option on Grow. Grow’s own comparison page still mentions Superior.

New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, Washington, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Colorado are among the 41 jurisdictions with no Medicaid plan in Grow’s checker.

Dual-eligible plans are different. UnitedHealthcare Dual (Medicare and Medicaid) appears in 34 states, while Humana Dual appears in 28. These are Medicare Advantage plans for people enrolled in both programs. Medicaid-only members cannot use them.

Does Grow Therapy accept Medi-Cal?

Yes. California has the longest Medicaid list on Grow. Its checker included these 14 Medi-Cal managed-care plans on September 5, 2026:

Blue Shield of California, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, CalViva Health, Central California Alliance for Health, Community Health Plan of Imperial Valley, Gold Coast Health Plan, Health Net, Health Plan of San Joaquin/Mountain Valley Health Plan, Inland Empire Health Plan, Kern Family Health Care, L.A. Care Health Plan, Partnership HealthPlan of California, San Francisco Health Plan, and Santa Clara Family Health Plan.

Provider counts vary widely. Grow’s directory listed 181 verified therapists for Blue Shield of California’s Medi-Cal plan, 158 for Santa Clara Family Health Plan, 142 for L.A. Care, and 117 for Health Net. Kern Family Health Care had four. Inland Empire Health Plan was in the dropdown but had no providers listed.

Several Medi-Cal plans are missing. Grow does not list Kaiser Permanente Medi-Cal, Molina, Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal, CalOptima, CenCal, Alameda Alliance, Contra Costa Health Plan, or Health Plan of San Mateo. Fee-for-service Medi-Cal without a managed-care plan is also unavailable.

Medi-Cal divides mental health care into two levels. Managed-care plans cover mild to moderate outpatient care, which is the type Grow provides. County Mental Health Plans cover more intensive specialty services. Disability Rights California describes county services as providing more intensive care and more support than managed-care plans. Grow’s Medi-Cal guide says most accepted plans do not require a referral. San Francisco Health Plan also tells members they do not need a referral for mental health care.

Grow bills California claims under a different facility name, tax ID, and NPI than it uses in every other state. If you call your plan to confirm coverage, ask whether Grow Therapy is in network as a facility.

Can Grow prescribers take Medicaid?

Yes, in the states we checked. With the Medication management filter selected, Grow’s search returned 35 prescribers for Peach State Health Plan in Georgia, 73 for Buckeye Health Plan in Ohio, and 216 for L.A. Care Medi-Cal in California. Every visible prescriber card belonged to a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Grow’s Medicaid guide lists medication management and prescription drugs among the services Medicaid commonly covers. However, the guide does not directly say that Grow’s own prescribers accept Medicaid.

Medicaid users report receiving telehealth psychiatric care and prescriptions through Grow at no cost, including antidepressants. We did not verify Medicaid prescriber availability in the other seven states.

What does Grow Therapy cost with Medicaid?

Grow publishes an average cost for some plans on its search pages. On September 5, 2026, the Georgia page listed an average cost of $0 for Peach State Health Plan clients. The pages also showed a $0 average for Buckeye Health Plan in Ohio, UnitedHealthcare Medicaid in Florida, and Medicaid in Connecticut. The California L.A. Care page did not publish an average.

Grow’s Medicaid guide gives a broader range of $0 to $25 per session. Some plans require a small copay, while others cover the full cost.

A KFF survey found that most state Medicaid programs do not charge copays for behavioral health services.1 Most states also limit Medicaid cost sharing to less than $10 per service.2 The 2025 reconciliation law adds Medicaid copays of up to $35 per service for some expansion enrollees beginning in October 2028. Mental health and substance use services are exempt.2

Grow does not require Medicaid clients to keep a payment card on file. Its help center says the card requirement usually applies to everyone except clients using Medicaid or Kaiser.

Providers set their own no-show and late-cancellation fees, which can be as high as $200. Grow says insurance does not cover these fees. An unpaid balance from an earlier plan can also block new bookings. Users report being unable to schedule until they paid an old balance, even after switching to Medicaid.

Prior authorization is usually unnecessary. Grow’s billing FAQ says most insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, do not require it. Its Medicaid guide is more cautious and says some clients may need a referral and prior approval.

Session limits also vary. Grow gives examples of plans that cover 30 sessions per year and others that require a review after 12 to 16 sessions, but it does not name the states. A therapist can request additional sessions by documenting medical necessity.

How do you check your Medicaid plan on Grow?

  1. Open Grow’s cost estimator, choose your state, and check the insurance dropdown. Grow told us this state toggle and insurance dropdown is its authoritative, up-to-date plan list (confirmed September 8, 2026). Grow cannot bill your Medicaid plan if it is not listed for your state.
  2. To browse before entering personal information, use the Find a therapist filter. You can select a state and plan to see available providers.
  3. Call the member services number on your Medicaid card. Ask whether Grow Therapy is in network as a facility. Also ask whether you need a referral or prior approval and whether your plan has a session limit.
  4. Have your member ID ready when you book. Grow verifies your coverage during booking and bills the plan after each session.

A CalViva Health member filed a BBB complaint in April 2026 after Grow repeatedly marked the person’s insurance as inactive. CalViva confirmed that the coverage was active, but the member’s appointments continued to be canceled automatically. Grow later reported that it had resolved the issue.

What if Grow does not accept Medicaid in your state?

Grow recommends contacting your Medicaid plan or visiting your state’s Medicaid website. Two Trustpilot reviewers who otherwise liked Grow said they wished the platform accepted Medicaid in their states. One said the lack of coverage meant leaving their existing providers.

Rula is the other service we track that bills Medicaid directly. Rula says it accepts Medicaid in many states but does not publish a state list. Check your plan through Rula’s search, and read our Rula review to learn how the service works.

In the other 41 jurisdictions, you can use your plan’s directory or contact a community mental health center. Medi-Cal members who need more intensive care can contact their county Mental Health Plan.

If you have Medicare and Medicaid, check whether Grow lists a dual-eligible plan in your state. UnitedHealthcare dual plans appear in 34 states, and Humana dual plans appear in 28. Our Grow Therapy review covers the self-pay rates if you decide to pay out of pocket.

How does Grow compare with the traditional Medicaid route?

Finding a Medicaid therapist through a plan directory can take time. A June 2025 HHS Office of Inspector General brief found that 45% of surveyed behavioral health providers were not accepting new Medicare or Medicaid patients. Many cited full caseloads. About one-quarter of the available providers quoted waits longer than 30 days.3 A JAMA study of five large insurers’ directories found inconsistencies in 81% of entries.4

Grow says every provider shown on its Medicaid directory pages has been verified, is accepting new clients, and has availability within 30 days. On September 5, 2026, Peach State Medicaid providers in Georgia showed first appointments two to five days away.

Community mental health centers accept Medicaid in every state. One center may provide therapy, medication management, and case management for the same client. California’s county Mental Health Plans also provide specialty care that Grow does not offer.

Continuity on Grow depends on the individual provider. Some users report having a prescriber or therapist go silent for as long as a month.

If your plan appears in the checker, find a Medicaid provider on Grow Therapy.

What do Medicaid users say about Grow?

Grow has a 4.7 Trustpilot score based on 8,328 reviews. Thirteen reviews mention Medicaid. Eleven are five-star reviews, and two are one-star reviews.

Positive reviews focus on access. A December 2025 reviewer recommended Grow to Medicaid members who need online care. An August 2025 reviewer praised its easy access, Medicaid coverage, and large selection of therapists with detailed profiles. A Florida reviewer liked that Grow accepted both Humana PPO and Florida Medicaid. Another reviewer called Grow the only platform offering Medicaid billing in December 2024.

The negative reviews describe bills that appeared later. In March 2025, one reviewer said Grow advertised Medicaid coverage but continued sending $250 bills. Another reviewer reported receiving emails months after treatment saying she owed $126, then $150, and eventually $531. The interface had shown the sessions as covered.

Therapists also recommend Grow to colleagues who are building practices around Medicaid and Anthem. They report that the platform can fill a caseload over time.
