- Yes, Grow Therapy takes Kaiser in most regions. Grow’s national Kaiser contract covers KP Mid-Atlantic, Northwest, Colorado, Hawaii, and Washington, and Northern California and Georgia run on separate contracts. Southern California is not listed on any Grow page.
- The booking path depends on your region. Kaiser Mid-Atlantic members self-book on Grow’s Kaiser member page, while Kaiser Northern California requires a Kaiser-issued authorization first, or Kaiser will not pay.
- Most Grow clients with insurance pay about $21 a session, in a $0 to $50 band. A Kaiser NorCal referral keeps you at your normal cost-share.
Grow Therapy is an insurance-first marketplace of therapists and prescribers across all 50 states, offering pay-per-session with no subscription. Kaiser Permanente operates as eight regional plans, and its arrangement with Grow differs by region. Grow’s help center names a national Kaiser contract spanning five regions plus separate Northern California and Georgia contracts. Kaiser’s own Mid-Atlantic pages announce the partnership, and Kaiser’s Hawaii directory lists Grow as an affiliated mental health facility. If your region is on the covered list below, start from Grow’s directory and have your Member ID ready.

As of August 31, 2026, from Grow Therapy’s help center and Kaiser Permanente’s own member pages. Since April 2026, Kaiser requires Grow providers to administer outcome measures like the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 for Kaiser national-contract clients.1
Kaiser Mid-Atlantic: book it yourself
Kaiser’s Mid-Atlantic member materials say, “Kaiser Permanente has partnered with Grow Therapy,” with in-person and telehealth options and appointments available in under 2 days. Members can book through Grow’s dedicated Kaiser page at growtherapy.com/kaisermas-members, which cites a network of 18,000 providers nationwide. The site runs per-state finders (Virginia alone lists 463 therapists), and asks for your Member ID at booking. Neither Kaiser document mentions a referral requirement for Mid-Atlantic members. Start from Grow’s directory, or start from the Kaiser member page. Either way, the price shows before you commit.
Kaiser Northern California: authorization required first
In Northern California, Kaiser pays only if the authorization comes before the sessions. Per Grow’s provider help center, its Kaiser NorCal contract “requires authorization for each Kaiser client scheduled,” and clients who skip that step “won’t be covered by their Kaiser NorCal insurance.” Grow also maintains a standing, provider-gated Kaiser program FAQ for its providers.
Kaiser’s own external-referral FAQ lays out the path:
- Call Kaiser Mental Health and Addiction Medicine Services at 1-888-937-5748 for an initial evaluation.
- The evaluating clinician decides whether an external referral is appropriate, A referral is required before seeing any contracted external clinician.
- Your authorization letter names the specific clinician or group approved for your care. Services from an external provider without a referral to that specific provider are generally not covered.
- Once authorized, you pay only your normal cost-share or copay, directly to the external clinician, and Kaiser’s rules bar any extra service fees on top.
If you book Grow before Kaiser authorizes it, you pay the bill yourself. Always call Kaiser first.
Hawaii, and the other national-contract regions
Kaiser’s Hawaii provider directory lists Grow Therapy as an affiliated behavioral health facility in Honolulu, accepting Medicaid (QUEST), Senior Advantage, and HMO plans. But note that a referral to the facility may be required. For the Northwest, Colorado, and Washington regions, the national contract is verified but no member-facing booking page for those regions was found. Be sure to run your Member ID through Grow’s cost-estimate check or ask Kaiser member services whether you need a referral on your plan before booking.
What you’ll pay
With insurance accepted, most Grow clients pay about $21 a session, usually between $0 to $50. Your cost is your normal cost-share, nothing more. A no-show or a cancellation inside 24 hours can be billed by the provider at up to $200 and insurance does not cover it. Couples therapy is generally not covered either, so treat couples sessions as cash-pay unless Kaiser confirms otherwise.
If your region or plan turns out not to cover Grow, or you would rather not deal with Kaiser’s rules, pay cash instead. Providers list rates on their profile, and you can book at the provider-set prices Grow publishes as $75 to $250+ per session. You can even request a superbill afterward. But, since Kaiser HMO plans typically do not reimburse out-of-network care, confirm with Kaiser before counting on that.
How to check your Kaiser coverage
- Run the check on Grow’s side with your plan and Member ID. Grow verifies acceptance and gives a cost estimate. The Kaiser member finder does the same for Mid-Atlantic members.
- Verify with Kaiser by calling member services (800-464-4000) and ask whether Grow Therapy is a contracted external option for your region and plan. Be sure to ask whether a referral is required. If you are asked specifics, Grow bills as Grow Healthcare Group PC in California (NPI 1154994846) and Grow Healthcare Group PA elsewhere (NPI 1245845932).
- In Northern California, start with the referral line (888-937-5748) instead. Without an authorization, Kaiser does not pay for Grow.
Grow vs staying inside Kaiser
Kaiser members can self-refer to Kaiser’s own mental health care. Start at kp.org under Appointments, or call member services to reach your region’s behavioral health access line. You will be charged your standard copay, with Kaiser’s integrated record following your care. Care through the Grow route adds provider choice, including in-person options outside Kaiser’s facilities. Also, in the Mid-Atlantic program you can receive an appointment in under-2-days, per Kaiser. An authorized external referral costs the same cost-share as staying in-system, so the only difference is provider choice and speed. One call to Kaiser member services confirms whether your region and plan need a referral.
What Grow users report
Grow holds a 4.7 Trustpilot score from 8,293 reviews, and billing feedback is mostly positive.2 Reviewers describe insurance connection as seamless, with patient responsibility outlined clearly. One reviewer wished it were easier to confirm coverage up front. Users on Reddit, per aggregated roundups, report therapist-canceled appointments and billing disputes as the recurring gripes. Users also spoke about the up-to-$200 no-show fee as a surprise risk. Our Grow Therapy review covers the platform beyond the Kaiser question, and our Grow Therapy vs BetterHelp comparison sets it against the biggest subscription alternative.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Grow Therapy take Kaiser Southern California?
Southern California is not named on any Grow page, under the national contract or a separate one. Call Kaiser member services and ask what external mental health options your plan contracts with.
Do I need a referral to use Grow Therapy with Kaiser?
It depends on the region: Mid-Atlantic materials show direct self-booking, Northern California requires an authorization before care, and Hawaii’s listing says a referral may be required. When unsure, ask Kaiser before booking.
Does Kaiser cover couples therapy at Grow?
Per Grow’s own explainer, couples therapy is generally not covered by insurance unless one partner’s diagnosed condition makes it part of a treatment plan. Confirm with Kaiser or otherwise budget it as cash-pay.
Can my teen see a Grow therapist under Kaiser?
Grow serves minors, with a parent or guardian completing the booking in most states. Minors can book independently only where they can legally consent, with age verification. Teen specialists typically see ages 13 to 17, some 10 to 12. Coverage follows the same regional rules, so verify your plan first.
How much is Grow Therapy with Kaiser?

In Hawaii, Kaiser’s own directory entry for Grow lists Senior Advantage and Medicaid (QUEST) among accepted coverage at that facility.
What phone numbers are important?
