We reviewed ADHDAdvisor.org’s psychiatry and success coaching services but were unable to evaluate their therapy due to a last-minute therapist cancellation and lack of availability. Based on our independent assessment of its psychiatric services, ADHDAdvisor earned 3 stars. Drawbacks include limitations in prescribing ADHD-specific medications, provider availability, and the absence of a provider directory.

Detailed Review of ADHDAdvisor.org – What is ADHDAdvisor.org?

ADHDAdvisor.org is an online psychiatry, therapy, and coaching platform focused primarily on the treatment of ADHD. They do not accept insurance. Treatment is also supported for other mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. ADHDAdvisor.org appears to be available across the US, however, licensing and availability varies based on providers. Outside of California, ADHD Advisor cannot prescribe medications such as stimulants or benzodiazepines.

ADHDAdvisor.org Diagnostics & Testing

ADHDAdvisor.org offers a simple way to get diagnosed with ADHD without having to visit a doctor’s office. The diagnostic service is available for adults and requires a $20 deposit with the remaining $130 charged during your session. Same-day appointments were available for a diagnostic appointment.

The process begins with a simple online questionnaire to assess your ADHD symptoms. After completing it, you’re prompted to schedule a diagnostic appointment with a licensed provider. During the Zoom meeting, accessed through a link in the app, the provider reviews your questionnaire results and discusses your medical history and symptoms. The provider was helpful, clearly explaining my results and giving me a better understanding of the next steps for treatment.

One of the best things about this feature is how easy it is to get evaluated from home, but the availability of appointments can vary, depending on how busy the providers are. All in all, it’s a great option if you want a hassle-free diagnostic experience as well as a diagnostic letter.

ADHDAdvisor.org Therapy

ADHDAdvisor.org also offers virtual therapy services to help people manage their ADHD symptoms, like trouble focusing, time management, and emotional regulation. The platform pairs you with a therapist who specializes in ADHD and costs $140 per session.

After your diagnostic appointment with a medical provider, you’re typically assigned a therapist. Unfortunately, my therapist canceled just one minute before our session due to inclement weather that week. When I contacted Customer Support to request a different provider, they insisted this was the only therapist available. Despite several attempts to find a mutually convenient time, I have yet to connect with my therapist.

There is no provider directory to learn more about available professionals, and availability seems highly limited—likely due to licensing restrictions or scheduling constraints.

ADHDAdvisor.org Medication Management

ADHDAdvisor.org offers medication management services, which allow you to connect with a provider who can prescribe or adjust medications to help manage ADHD symptoms, as long as you are prescribed non-stimulants. Sessions cost $100 per session, and are designed for people already diagnosed with ADHD who need ongoing medication management.

The process starts with an initial consultation. From there, you’ll have regular check-ins with your provider to monitor your progress. I found it super convenient to manage everything online—the initial consultation was in-depth, and I was able to schedule follow-up appointments directly through the platform.

Keep in mind that medication itself isn’t included in the cost of the service, so you’ll still need to pay for prescriptions separately. Additionally, like many other online prescribers, controlled substances, including stimulants and benzodiazepines, cannot be prescribed. ADHD Advisor has additional referral sources in the event that it is recommended you take stimulants such as Adderall to help treat your ADHD.

ADHDAdvisor.org Success Coaching

ADHDAdvisor.org also offers success coaching for individuals with ADHD. This coaching is designed to help you set and achieve goals, improve productivity, and develop strategies for overcoming the unique challenges ADHD can present in everyday life. Sessions are done via video chat and are focused on helping you thrive both personally and professionally.

I tried out a coaching session, and it was incredibly motivating. The coach helped me break down my goals into smaller, achievable steps and gave me practical tips for staying on track. They even created a care plan that became daily tasks within the app.

It was a great experience, especially if you’re looking for more structure and accountability in your life. This feature is perfect for anyone wanting to enhance their productivity and focus on meeting your goals rather than understanding your symptoms.

How Much Does ADHDAdvisor.org Cost?

ADHDAdvisor.org costs $100 monthly for psychiatry; $140 per therapy session; and $75 per success coaching session. Users also have the option to sign up for monthly subscriptions, changing the frequency of billing, but not individual cost per session.

All users have access to the Healthie app where you can chat with your providers, message customer support, access your care plan and track your goals. ADHDAdvisor.org does not accept insurance, but accepts HSA/FSA cards and can provide you a superbill upon request.

Who Does ADHDAdvisor.org Serve?

ADHDAdvisor.org is available to adults nationwide, though provider availability and licensing depend on whether you’re seeking medication management, ADHD therapy, or success coaching. It’s particularly useful for those looking for an ADHD assessment, diagnosis, and a diagnosis letter. 

If you’re seeking non-stimulant treatment options for managing ADHD symptoms and can cover the out-of-pocket costs, ADHDAdvisor may be a good fit. However, like most telehealth platforms, ADHDAdvisor cannot prescribe stimulants like Adderall or Vyvanse, which can feel misleading. It’s often recommended to seek treatment from an in-network provider through your insurance.

ADHDAdvisor.org uses an app called Healthie to run their practice, therefore Apple App Store and Google Play Store reviews will be based off of Healthie’s app design and performance, not specifically ADHD Advisor. Additionally, ADHDAdvisor.org cannot be located on Trustpilot or the BBB.

There are a handful of posts asking specifically about user experience related to ADHDAdvisor.org and most of the reviews were negative, stating that it was a scam or not worth the cost for the quality of care they are receiving. Personally, I would have to agree with these negative reviews, as there seems to be a lot of misleading information that they can help treat your ADHD, while there are federal limitations to prescription of medications (e.g., stimulants such as Adderall) to treat symptoms of ADHD.

ADHD Advisor Vs. Competitors

For those 18+ who are looking for a cash-pay option to receive diagnosis, therapy, and/or psychiatry, ADHD Advisor is a solid option. That said, while they do prescribe medication, there are limitations (e.g., they cannot prescribe stimulants outside of CA). Ultimately, ADHD Advisor is best for someone who requires ADHD diagnosis or needs continued psychiatric treatment and management for an existing prescription.

For someone who wants to use insurance, consider using Talkiatry, which provides care to in-network patients (5+). Their ability to prescribe controlled medication depends on state regulations. Another option, Circle Medical, is one of the only providers who can prescribe stimulant medications like Adderall to adults.

If you require a platform that treats teens, consider using Talkspace, which provides in-network or out-of-network therapy and psychiatric services to people 13+.

Talkiatry is a better option for kids and teens who need psychiatry or therapy. The downside is that they do not accept cash-pay, while ADHD Advisor does. For some patients, this can absolutely be a deterrent. In general, Talkiatry provides more well-rounded, comprehensive care.

ADHDAdvisor.org is not suitable for those experiencing severe mental health symptoms, seeking stimulant prescriptions, needing access to in-network providers, or individuals with limited or unreliable internet access.

ADHDAdvisor.org Review – Our Final Verdict

ADHDAdvisor.org is helpful if you are seeking a diagnosis with a letter supporting your diagnosis, and looking for other treatment options outside of stimulant medication. I also enjoyed ADHDAdvisor.org’s one-stop-shop services. They allow users to find therapy, medication management, and success coaching for ADHD and other mental health disorders. The entire process made it easy to sign up and find a provider almost immediately.

However, I was disappointed in my therapist canceling one minute prior to our scheduled session. I anticipated that rescheduling with a new provider would be easy, but was surprised to find that there was no directory for me to choose a different provider. Customer service made it seem like that therapist was the only one available in my state.

Since I did not meet with a therapist, I can’t speak to that aspect of the service. Additionally, there are not really any trustworthy positive reviews that do not appear to be linked to advertising for ADHDAdvisor.org and negative reviews are mostly found on Reddit.
