If you’re considering Jornay PM, online psychiatry platforms can be a good place to start. Circle Medical works with many major insurance plans and can connect you with a provider quickly. Click here to open and close the box warning container.

How Much Does Jornay PM Cost With Health Insurance?

The cost of Jornay PM with insurance coverage may vary due to the details of the policy, such as covering generics with lowest copay or preferred brands with higher copay. Some companies may require prior authorization before covering medication costs. Contact your insurance company to understand the details of your prescription medication coverage.

Commercial Insurance

Contact your health insurance provider to see if your plan covers Jornay PM treatment. They will be able to provide you with accurate information regarding coverage, any associated costs, and the steps you need to take to obtain coverage for this medication.

Medicare

Medicare prescription drug plans (Part D) generally do not cover Jornay PM. However, it may cover the generic version of Jornay PM called methylphenidate. Other generic extended-release methylphenidate products may also be suitable alternatives to Jornay PM. It’s best to discuss with your healthcare provider whether such alternatives would be appropriate for your specific needs.1 It’s also important to note that Medicare coverage of Jornay PM will depend on the specifics of your Medicare plan.

Medicaid

Medicaid may cover Jornay PM, but different states require additional information from your healthcare provider before they cover the drug, called a prior authorization. If you qualify for Medicaid, your state determines the type, amount, duration, and scope of services within the broad federal Medicaid guidelines. The best way is to contact your state’s Medicaid website directly for a drug coverage guideline.2

TRICARE

TRICARE covers Jornay PM with prior authorization under your pharmacy benefits. You may contact the Veterans Affairs (VA) to see if they have this drug covered under the pharmacy or the medical benefit. Your benefits and plans may vary depending on your beneficiary category.3

Jornay PM Coupons & Discount Cards

Jornay PM coupons may be used along with private insurance to reduce drug copayments for a specific period and used for limited refills. Drug discount savings cards are pharmacy-owned cash cards that can be used regardless of your insurance status. They have no refill limits or expiration dates, making them the most convenient way to save on your generic and brand drugs.4

You can obtain them by downloading or printing them from the Jornay PM website or online platforms such as GoodRx and SingleCare.5 Then show them to the pharmacist before scanning the drug to begin the checkout process.

Jornay PM Cost Savings Programs

Jornay PM cost savings programs are available from the manufacturer and organizations such as SimpleFill and NeedyMeds. Some organizations provide information about cost savings programs. Others assist with the application process and help patients enroll. Individuals must apply for each program and meet specific criteria to qualify for savings.

Jornay Savings Program

Jornay PM’s manufacturer has a savings program available on its website.5 Eligible patients with commercial or private (nongovernment) insurance can use a savings card to lower the copay for their prescription. Currently, this is the only cost savings program available directly from the manufacturer. Be sure to read all rules and requirements about the program before using the savings card.

SimpleFill

SimpleFill offers a service to help people qualify and maintain enrollment for savings programs covering many commonly prescribed medications. Patients who are underinsured or not insured can apply for the program on their website. At this time, Jornay PM savings programs are not available at SimpleFill, but patients are encouraged to keep checking as program information is frequently updated.6

NeedyMeds

NeedyMeds offers ways to save money on Jornay PM. It is a nonprofit organization that connects patients to coupons, savings programs, and other discounts in one location. Patients who are underinsured or not insured can apply for the Jornay PM coupons on the NeedyMeds website.7

Other Ways to Find Jornay PM Coupons & Discount Cards

Jornay PM coupons and discount cards are available online, at pharmacies, and via the mail. There are also ways anyone can reduce the cost of prescription medication, even without insurance.

Pharmacy Discounts & Savings Cards

Pharmacy discounts and savings cards may be available for Jornay PM. These cards may be printed out from the program’s website and can be used for both brand and generic drugs. Note that discount cards cannot be combined with prescription coverage.8 Because discount cards can be pharmacy-specific, contact your pharmacy to determine if they accept the one you wish to use.

Online Resources & Apps

Online resources can help connect patients with Jornay PM savings cards and coupons. You may also get a prescription savings card via email, text, or straight to your phone using the program’s app. These card programs offer discounts of up to 85% on prescription medications (brand and generic), but the actual savings may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy and card to card.

Certain prescription discount cards also offer free home delivery, whereas others may provide an extensive network of participating pharmacies. Prescription discount cards are available at websites such as SingleCare, ScriptSave, WellRx, and GoodRx.

HSA Accounts

A health savings account (HSA) is a feature of high-deductible health insurance plans. With an HSA, you can set aside pre-tax money from your paycheck to pay for qualified health expenses. This means the money you contribute to this account is not subject to federal taxes, leaving the full amount available for use. Contact your company directly to learn if your Jornay PM prescription qualifies.9

Ask Your Prescriber for Samples

Your prescriber may have Jornay PM medication samples available, which would provide you with short-term supply of the medication. Requesting a sample gives you a chance to try the medication for a short time before filling a prescription.

Ask About Getting a 90-day Supply

If your provider decides to offer you a Jornay PM prescription, a 90-day supply can cost less than getting monthly refills. This approach also reduces the number of refills needed per year. Mail-order pharmacies generally offer 90-day supplies, reducing the costs of shipping packaging materials for the pharmacy and patient.

Fill Your Prescription by Mail-order

Using a mail-order pharmacy is another way to get your medication at a reduced cost. Your provider will call in the prescription directly, then your medication will be delivered after a week or two. Mail-order prescriptions work well for medications with no temperature sensitivities and those used for treating chronic conditions.10

How to Get a Jornay PM Prescription

To get a prescription for Jornay, begin by making an appointment with your primary provider. This may be a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant. Pediatricians may also be able to prescribe Jornay PM.11 They already know you or your child’s medical history and needs, so they may be able to do a complete ADHD evaluation. Alternatively, they may refer you to an ADHD specialist or psychiatrist. A provider doing an evaluation will consider medical history, medications, and other factors before determining if a Cotempla prescription may be suitable.

To get prescribed Jornay PM online, you will also start by getting an evaluation from an online psychiatric provider that can and will prescribe controlled substances. Because of the limitations on prescribing stimulant medications, this process can be challenging. We have used and thoroughly reviewed two such platforms, ADHD Online and Circle Medical, and found them to be helpful for getting an ADHD evaluation.

Jornay PM may not always be available due to potential shortages of ADHD medications. Your provider may choose an alternative if Cotempla is not available or suitable for you.

Jornay PM Alternatives

Some individuals may need to consider Concerta alternatives when treating their symptoms. Stimulant medications for ADHD work by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. For some, these medications may improve ADHD symptoms related to mood, energy, and attention.12

Nonstimulant medications work differently. You may not feel the full effects of these treatments for several weeks. Each person responds in a unique way to medication, and your age, health history, and previous experience with side effects can have an impact. Your doctor will help determine which medication may work best for you.

Prescriber’s Tips

Dr-Sheelu-Bhatnagar-MD-PhD-headshot Sheelu Bhatnagar, MD, PhD

In my experience, Jornay PM coupons, savings cards, and discounts offer several ways to cut costs for this medication. Its cost is a main drawback, but savings offered by coupons and savings plans can lower the drug cost and copayment.

Discuss medication costs and concerns with your prescriber and what your options are, including the following.

  • Getting a 90-day supply
  • Using a mail-order prescription service
  • Using a generic, if available
  • Medication samples
  • Patient assistance programs
