Journaling Prompts for Relationships

While not a substitute for couples therapy, journaling prompts for relationships help you and your partner open up to each other about things you might not talk about on a regular basis. There are no rules when it comes to journaling – just read the prompt and take turns writing whatever comes to mind. After you and your partner have finished writing, share the journal with each other and take time to talk about anything that comes up.

  4. What are you most grateful for about your relationship?
  5. How do you communicate love to your partner?

  7. Is it easy or difficult for you to ask for help when needed? Why?
  8. Do you believe in soulmates?

  12. List 15 things you can do to make your relationship more fun (they can be realistic or far-fetched, anything goes!)

  24. List 15 things that make you laugh.
  25. Do you have any secrets you’ve been keeping from your partner? Share them.

  27. What are five things you and your partner can work on together over the next five years to grow your relationship?

  29. What are some things you would like to improve about yourself?

  38. When was the last time you spent quality time with your friends? Do you find it important to spend time away from your partner?
  39. What are your partner’s greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses?
  40. What is something you are looking forward to with your partner?
  41. Is there anything your partner has done that you find hard to forgive? Describe it and explain what you can do to encourage forgiveness.
  42. What four songs remind you of your partner and why?
  43. If your partner had three wishes, what would they wish for?
  44. What are five things you wish your partner knew about themselves?
  45. What are deal breakers for you in a relationship?
  46. If you could change one of your partner’s opinions, what would it be, and what would you change it to?
  47. What are your core values? How do you deal with discrepancies between your core values and your partner’s core values?
