LGBTQ Therapy Space is an online therapy platform designed specifically for and by queer folks. All therapists on the platform identify as LGBTQ+. It’s currently available in 17 states and D.C., though therapist options are quite limited in many states. Sessions cost $155 for individual sessions and $185 for couples, and while it doesn’t take insurance, clinicians can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.
While it could be a fabulous platform for people who find a good therapist fit, my biggest concern is that the lack of options could leave someone with a less-than-ideal match. For this reason, it earned a 3.5 out of 5 star rating in our independent review.

Preview LGBTQ Therapy Space
LGBTQ Therapy Space is an online therapy platform in 17 states plus D.C., offering individual and couples counseling “for the community, by the community.” While it doesn’t accept insurance, cash-pay prices are relatively affordable at $155 for individual sessions and $185 for couples sessions, and they can help you find out if your insurance provider offers out-of-network reimbursement.
While I couldn’t schedule a therapy session with LGBTQ Therapy Space as there are no therapists available in my state, I spent a great deal of time scouring the website and went as far as I could in the intake process to get a feel for how it works. It seems relatively streamlined, as it has its own proprietary platform for video sessions and payment.
While it could be a great option for queer folks looking for online therapy in the states where it’s offered, many may not be in a state with coverage and will need to look elsewhere. Additionally, for those looking for in-network coverage, it could be much simpler to find a provider who takes your insurance. Detailed Review of LGBTQ Therapy Space
LGBTQ Therapy Space is an online therapy platform specifically designed for queer folks to find a therapist within the community. In 17 states so far, it could be a fantastic option for someone within the care network who finds a therapist they click with. Otherwise, the therapist options are relatively limited even in states it serves.
This is the main reason it’s not rated slightly higher: The platform seems great, therapist bios are clear, and the cash-pay price is very reasonable, but it’s a small pool of therapists to choose from. California is the state with the most therapists at 16 listed.

Getting Started
Potential clients can choose to look through the providers listed in their state or simply start filling out the intake questionnaire to be matched with a therapist. Many states only have a couple providers, so it may not take long to do an initial look and see if you think the therapists practicing in your state could be a good fit for you.
The intake questionnaire is quick but relatively thorough, with questions including your gender identity, what brings you to therapy, and then your address and other personal information. After submitting the form, the website says you should receive an email with your therapist match in one to three days.
Once matched, you and your therapist will set up a free 10-minute consultation to talk through any questions you have and ensure it feels like a good match. If you feel comfortable moving forward after that call, you can schedule your first session with them. Payment is due before your first session.
Online Therapy
I couldn’t have an online therapy session through LGBTQ Therapy Space as they don’t have any providers in my state, but after reading through its detailed description of the online therapy experience, I gathered that the process should be pretty streamlined for clients. You’ll receive an email invite with a link to your waiting room, and all sessions take place on LGBTQ Therapy Space’s hosting platform.
The hosting platform uses Zoom technology so you shouldn’t need to download anything else to get started with your first video session. This platform is also where you’ll pay and where you can set email reminders for future sessions. There’s also a chat feature built in, as well as customer support.
How Much Does LGBTQ Therapy Space Cost?
LGBTQ Therapy Space charges a set rate of $155 per 50-minute individual session and $185 for a 50-minute couples therapy appointment. Providers on the platform can create superbills for clients to submit to their insurance payors for reimbursement if out-of-network therapy sessions are covered in their plan. If this is the case, LGBTQ Therapy Space states that clients typically get 60–80% of their session cost covered, sometimes after meeting a deductible.
Who Does LGBTQ Therapy Space Serve?
LBGTQ Therapy Space was specifically designed to serve queer clients. The specialties it lists on the website are LGBTQ counseling, gay couples counseling, gender affirming therapy, gender dysphoria therapy, and self-esteem counseling. Since it has few options in many states, there is a likelihood that you may not be able to find someone who can help with each of these needs in your location.
There may be age restrictions in certain states, but it claims on its site that it can see clients as young as 12 years old. If you’re looking for care for children and teens, we recommend checking out Grow Therapy.
Therapists are available in California, Colorado, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
User Reviews
LGBTQ Therapy Space has very few reviews online. The company has five reviews on its google business page, in which it has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating. The only two written reviews are from clinicians who have worked with the company, and say it was great to work with, one of whom praises the owner, stating how easy he is to work with.
Alternatives & Competitors
While LGBTQ Therapy Space could be a great option for those in states served by the platform, there are several other online therapy services and directories specifically tailored to queer folks looking for mental health care. A couple of our other favorites are Gay Therapy Center (in-person in a handful of states and online in 42) and the Inclusive Therapists directory, which you can filter to find a provider in your state who suits your unique needs.
Best Customer Service - Gay Therapy Center
Price: $185–$250 per session
Insurance Accepted: No
Therapy & Psychiatry: Therapy only
While LGBTQ Therapy Space and Gay Therapy Center serve the same client base, GTC is offered in more states (42 so far) and has more providers on its platform. Additionally, to get started with GTC, clients must schedule a 15 minute phone call with a Client Intake Coordinator, who personally matches them with a provider best suited to their needs.
LGBTQ Therapy Space is slightly more affordable and has set rates of $155 for individual sessions and $185 for couples sessions (both 50 minutes), while GTC’s session prices can vary based on provider, but are always between $185–$250. Neither platform accepts insurance, but both companies can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

Pros & Cons
- Incredibly personalized and friendly customer service
- Online and in-person care available in several locations
- Therapists on the platform have an average of 15 years of experience
- Doesn’t accept insurance
- Not available nationwide
Most Inclusive Directory - Inclusive Therapists
Inclusive Therapists is an online directory, not a therapy provider in itself, but it allows potential clients to filter by a huge range of preferences, including the therapist’s gender and orientation, insurance coverage, specialties, cultural knowledge, and much more. If you don’t want to do the work to find your own therapist, you can use the “Get Matched” service.
Each provider bio includes all the information a potential client could need to determine whether or not they feel like a good fit, including cash-pay cost and which insurance providers they accept. Users can send a message in the directory, then wait for an email response from the therapist where they can talk further and schedule a first session.
Read our thorough Inclusive Therapists review for more information.
Pros & Cons
- All providers on the platform are committed to anti-oppressive care
- The “Get Matched” service is great for those not wanting to look through profiles
- Cash-pay costs and insurance acceptance vary greatly by provider
- No scheduling tools on the directory (must message provider)

Owner & Founder: Jake Myers, LMFT
LGBTQ Therapy Space was founded by Jake Myers in 2021, when he moved his private practice fully online. His passion for LGBTQ mental health started after being seen by a gay therapist, whom he felt gave him a space to be fully seen and understood for who he was.
Myers runs his own private telehealth practice with clients in Florida and California, and has onboarded several more queer-identifying therapists in the past few years to join his mission to provide quality mental health care for the LGBTQ+ community in 17 states across the U.S.
